Hmmm, so perhaps we may still yet see movement tomorrow?
I've still got a tiny niggle telling me that Levy wants to pull something special out the bag.
Of course, it may just be wishful thinking to be honest.

I just get the feeling that he quite like this image of being a hard baller. A hard man to beat when you're sat across a table from him.
And I think that he'd like the idea of going, "ok, so last year was Shit but...ta daaa!". The press would love it, fans would adore him forever and his peers and rivals would also have to applaud.

I'm not saying he'd pull of something special just to look like The Man, or to feed his own ego, it'd be for the benefit of the club.
But everyone likes to quietly give it the large occasionally, if the opportunity should present itself.

Did it a couple of times last season. We all thought we wouldn't have a shirt sponsor then out of the blue we get 2 at record levels. And who was expecting VDV?

Very true indeed but I get the feeling he'd like to take it up a notch or two - a real show stopper as it were, a proper statement to the world.

He's not as far detached from us as he may sometimes appear.

This is the thing, though, DP.
I understand exactly what you are saying, and in the normal building process agree totally. But we have some World Class players who, in varying degrees of happiness, are prepared to stay one more year to try to get us CL football again. We all know we need striking upgrade(s), and what we come down to is about prbability. We need someone who is going to hit the ground running and score the goals now to carry us back to the CL this season, not someone who comes good the season after, or we are in serious danger of losing some or all of our World Class players.
And that is where the probability comes in. We all know that it would be better to spend £8 million on someone like Chicarito who hits the ground running and scores the goals. But the younger a player is the more chance what he has shown may be a flash-in-the-pan. The older a player is the more chance, if he is assigned a certain level, that he is the real deal.
And that is the situation we face now. No amount of forward thinking is going to help us. We could go out and spend £5 M a piece on 3 strikers of potential and all three could take at least one season to come good - by which time we are fooked. With a player like, for instance, Adebayor, he will cost more, but we pretty much know he can do the business at the level we are aiming for. And that is why Levy going his merry way, building sedately forthe future, spotting emergin talent at reasonable prices with good sell on value, just ain't gonna cut it this Summer (unless we went down that route and got immensely lucky).

Another thing to remember here, SP, is that we are not in the same situation as ManU. We don't have a Rooney, or a Berbatov, or an Owen to fall back on if we go out and get our very own 'Chicharito' and he doesn't hit the ground running. Utd, like Citeh, have an embarassment of riches up front. When they can afford to bench a golden boot winner, for around a third of a season? It just goes to show the disparity we currently have.

I've never been one to really advocate big spending, I've always liked the way we can find a gem. But I agree with the assessment that we don't really have that luxury now. We have to pay going rates because going rates are for proven goalscorers. Once we have a proven goalscorer, who is actually putting them away, THEN we can be bringing in the 18-24 year olds to bring on. It may be that we really don't need to do that as, in Kane and Coulibaly, we mayhave two big striking stars for the future.

Kudos for our scouting dept if that is the case.

Then your second guess of the man is a good one,

Rabbits, White and black ones from a hat.

We're signing Juventus, the whole damned club, right? That'll teach them a lesson about not fucking with Levy during a summer...

Webb would be a loan, so contractually unable to give decisions against his owners. No change there, then...
