We've never made a marquee signing that I can think of so not hopeful we will be changing that.

Klinsmann, Van Der Vart, Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Osvaldo Ardiles, Ricky Villa say hi.......you can't think of them?? I'll grant you only one was under Levy but to say never......

edit - beaten to it :arghh::cautious:

We always had Marquee signings until Enic arrived. To name a few... 90s Klinsmann, Ginola 80s Gazza, Lineker 70s Ardiles, Villa, Peters 60s Greaves, Chivers. Just the last 16 years have been a little short of Marquee signings although we have tried in occasions like Rebrov but we're not in the mix anymore. Shame. Goodnight all.

Well, I suppose that all makes sense with the earlier info we had that Poch wanted Barkley to play CM - so there is a more advanced attacking player we are pursuing, with a PL player in mind for that role as the back up.

Believe we tried with Rivaldo too. Was offended by our fax machine offer as he preferred traditional written letters ;)

Oh I didn't realise we were going to list all of those we 'tried but failed to sign'. Now that's a whole different game. I'll drop our beloved Chairman a line and he can list all of those world beaters he was this close to getting...

You can't be excited about something you real know nothing about. We have no name, no real indication that something is actually happening & all we really have is hope, hope that finally Levy is backing his manager.

PSG fans got excited because it was clear their owners were serious about bringing one of the top 3 or 4 players to their club. The only player we've been firmly linked with is a GK for 2M, so there you go.

If say Bale was a serious option I'm pretty sure there would be excitement, but I'm with most, it's never going to happen.

PSG fans can afford to get excited when their "owners" are one of the richest nation states on the planet.

Football is broken beyond repair when countries are owning clubs.

GB not coming home! Feel I need to put that out there but more worrying is he could return to the PL this season!
I think it's considerably more likely than not if the Mbappe deal goes through. Been a lot of smoke in that direction over the past week or two, if one pays attention to Madrid affairs (I mean regarding Bale rather than Mbappe). United will be the destination I'm sure. Better that than Chelsea but still a bummer. I was hoping they'd keep him for at least one more season, prior to the inevitable.

The backup PL player is most likely Josh King. That link has been confirmed by a few ITks in the last couple of months. Would kind of make sense that he's a backup plan and there is a better player we are more interested in.

:-( such a shame considering we get the chance to match the bid and first refusal according the contract, i know it's dreamland but what an amazing signing it would have been to get Bale back. Utd can fuck off!
