A kernel of hope still remains. Excited about the prospect of our first attacking signing in two years!
Ludicrous that we've made no attacking improvements in that time frame. Hopefully there will be another attacking player coming in- in addition to N'Jie, which seems likely (we've said that before though...)

Two from Chadli Lamela and Njie already seems pretty sexy

It's a good point SK
I'm usually very frustrated at this time of the window but for some reason, this time around I feel very calm as I have a sense that this window is fully under control. It's seems we have a legitimate plan and process in place.
3 defenders in early doors means we've had a whole pre season to gel them all together and this was our Achilles heel last season.
We obviously need a CM and at least one forward player but the ITK would suggest we have many options out there and all seem to be plausible reinforcements. It maybe cliched but I think we have learned lessons from the summer of 2013.
The most pleasing aspect for me is the realisation that the board are in complete cahoots with Poch and what he wants to achieve.
Whatever happens on Saturday, I'm very pleased as to where we are all things considered.
I was privy to inside info 2-3 years ago and the way we operated was very erratic with no real plan. This summer feels a whole lot more structured and kudos needs to go to Levy and all his troops this time even if they've under delivered previously.

Agreed. There does seem to be an air of confidence about the ITK this summer, whereas previously JJ was happy to say 'nothing doing' when that was actually the case.

This window would start to look pretty good if we end up with L. Bender, Berahino, and N'Jie/Wermer (admittedly I only know anything about two of those four, but hey...YouTube!).

I can't really see any left field last minute action this time around. The 'ins' will be the ones we've been courting which to me is paramount to giving our scouting system both respect and credence.

From a personal point of view Njie and at least one German would be absolutely lovely.

If Saido could be obtained also that would be tremendous

Slightly off topic but something that has been put to the ITK's in Austin.
Not sure about the rest of you but I certainly wouldn't be adverse to him even at 15m
If Kane gets injured or more realistically goes 'out of form' what on earth is our contingency?
You could even argue Kane could go wide forward with Austin as the point if need be.
I'm just looking at options. 18 goals in a struggling side last year. Give the bricklayer some proper service and what have we got on our hands.........?

The ITK I've seen says no chance of Austin coming in.

Kane at WF is one of the worst ideas I've heard. Sorry.

I would tend to agree mate. Was just trying to think outside the box probably a little too much.
I suppose my point is 'if no Kane, then what?'

We have to have a legitimate alternative (obv Ade is the answer if he could actually arsed)

No to Kane as a WF, but I'd prefer Austin to our current options.

At least he'd have a chance of being useful, unlike someone like Victor Moses, who'd struggle being a ball boy.

Point taken on Kane. It was mere,y an extreme case. However currently if Kane goes awol for whatever reason, we are in an extremity. It's quite plausible over a 50 game season that he gets a hammy or the ilk. 3-4 weeks without him what do we do?

We need to have a 'fit' and IMO the wide forwards won't be able to hold out.

It's inevitable that Kane will get injured at some point. Might be out for a week, or might be out for months.

I agree that we need to have at least one viable alternative (neither Ade or Soldado fit the bill, for obvious reasons), In an ideal world we'd be targeting players that play as strikers, but can also play on the left or right (rather than the reverse).

And a DM. We really need a DM.

DM is a tricky one for me. Our defence suffered last season. Is that because the defenders were not up to the task or were they not properly protected from a proper protective midfielder?. That is the dilemma. We've definitely dealt with sorting the defence out and I'd argue that do we need a perceptive 'holder' although I don't think that is the be all and end all. See goons vs chavs for that quiz.
In my opinion I'd certainly like the option of one definitive 'holder' however I think more total CM's have it in their armoury to be as effective (this coming from a retired CM who could do it all )
My worry is away at the big games sometimes they literally just run by you. You do need a blocker of sorts.

Yeah we've got no blockers at all, or even any all-rounders that could do that job as a DM. A Bentaleb/Mason midfield just isn't good enough IMO.

Not even sure we've addressed our defence. Wasn't that what Pochettino was meant to have done last year? Bringing in Fazio, Davies, Dier, and Stambouli as a DM? With the exception of Dier that was hardly a fruitful window. Trippier looks good, but I don't have a high opinion of Alderweireld (although I like the idea of him and Verts having an understanding based on their Ajax days).

I'm convinced we'd perform better with a Cabaye-type instead of Mason. Really hope we have someone like S. Bender up our sleeves.

Good points mate. I'm not sure Davies and Dier were even 'Poch' signings but hey ho.
I think Dier has the potential to be very useful
Cabaye I think is Superb, maybe Poch thinks Bentaleb could be as good. To be fair he has come on amazing in the last 18 months
Toby will be an interesting one. If he only keeps Verts 'interested' because he's his 'pal' I think we'll be more than fine in that respect alone. For me Verts has been a bit of a liability the last 18 months looking for a lucrative move away perhaps.

I like Trippier. He can come in hitting the ground running and motivate Walker the same way Rose went last year.

What would you want more from our current back five? (Potential)

Personally I'd like to see a back four of Rose-Verts-Alderweireld-Trippier. Seems a bit more balanced than having Rose and Walker bombing down the flanks. I'd like a proper DM in front of them, but we don't have one of those at this point in time!

Positive news from JJ. Gives me hope there's still life left in this window.

Even if it closed tomorrow I'd still be optimistic. We've got great youth and I'd love to make use of them this season. But bringing in N'Jie and, possibly, Berahino as well as one of the Germans will only make us an even better side for this season and years to come.
