We do have ITK saying that things should be seeing movement this week. So I think Levy knows what game he's playing. Though his emphasis on getting the best deal, really does not help matters.
I think Levy is playing the do what is not best for the club game and trying to be too clever by half game. We have lost all the positive impact of finishing second in the league that could have been brought into the transfer window by moving early and decisively even after the sale of Walker.

He is just following the method that we have been following pretty much ever ENIC has took over, and its largely been very successful. Essentially Levy wants value, he wants to be able to sell a player for more than he signs them for, he goes largely for young undervalued assets and banks on their development. This philosophy also involves developing the youth academies etc. It has been a success and when goes against this strategy normally its a disaster. Like post-Bale and Sissoko.

Now Levy thinks the current market is bad value, not because a player cost 30/40/50 million, but because he thinks this window has been a bubble and is not sustainable. Therefore he doesn't see it as a buying market at the current state. His idea was that as clubs struggle to move players on and fund the player signings they have already made clubs will lower their valuation to a more reasonable level.

biggest problem with the slow start is that the games at start in August still count as much as an away game at the end of the season when we are needing 3 points to go top of the table - the slow starts are killing our title chases

It's a myth that we start slowly, check the stats from the last few seasons!

Another thing. I wonder, do those complaining about lack of signings. Would they be happy to have already signed Barkley for £50m, or Mawson for £35m.

We can't actually win, I'm pretty sure Levy would be blamed if we did and will be blamed if he didn't.

There are 2 responses to poor purchases above £15m, 1) stop buying above that level or 2) examine why you do poorly with more expensive purchases and fix the problem. It seems Levy has chosen the former rather than the latter.

Nobody would blame him if we had spent £25m for a replacement RB like Perreira immediately after selling Walker even if the club thought they were only worth £15-20m.

I think the angst stems from the contradictory statements from within the club. A few weeks ago it was "we are very calm because we trust in our academy" and in the last week it has become "we are behind our competitors in the transfer market" and "KWP is too young to play". I actually think if Poch had said he was going to play KWP and others from the academy SC would be supportive and pretty chilled but when he says he won't I think we, quite reasonably, question "the strategy". We want to take a different path by trusting the academy but in practice we don't seem to actually trust the academy or simply the academy isn't good enough yet.

This is a very considered view point and although not itk, could be very close to Levy's strategy. He may well be right that current spending is unsustainable, but then PSG go blow everyone out of the water....

...this could cause a domino effect; Barcelona are awash with cash and could soon make Liverpool awash with cash for Coutinho, who in turn could make Southampton awash with cash for Van Dyik and so on and so on.

It's all well and good looking for value, but it could also leave us standing still, so I hope we do see movement later this week. Maybe Levy will think he's waited long enough, and if our original targets are still gettable, he might just realise it's time to take the plunge...

A&C is going to ban so many of you.

Like, right in your faces. And just before the season starts too. Shame.

Maybe or maybe not but I would have been happy with another right back after selling our first choice one for 50m and I imagine so would Potch.

I really hope Barkley can be done for the weekend, even if just to give the dressing room a freshen and a lift. I don't get why it would be reliant on siggy when they've already said he's off and signed the guy from Ajax. If anything it would be the other way around for FFP ( if that's even a thing anymore )

When we sign Barkley, Cancelo & Simeone for net spend profit after disposing of Walker, Njie and Sissoko plus Siggurdsson sell on fee (plus the other odds and sods) this place will be hailing Levy as the master of the transfer market again. Players are now agitating for moves, where as last summer prices rose throughout the window, Levy's gamble will pay off as there is only so many players that can move for stupid money. It makes me go crazy when fans say, its only another £5m to get player X in now! Take a look at the balance sheet of any PL club and see what % £5m to £10m is of overall profits, its a big number and worth holding out for 4-6 weeks for!

Can see the headlines on Friday, 'Spurs finally move for Barkley with opening bid of 12 million' Lol

Then cue Koeman interview and derisory/insulting bid

:D
lol - paid in 6 equal installments, if Barkley starts 38 PL matches...that season

You know absolutely nothing about me.as a man nearing 40 ive seen the grim teams and managers of the 90s so am in a good position to know currently we have our best team and certainly manager ive seen and possibly will ever see. The game is currently awash with cash and for me if the best manager we have had in 30 years is telling you that the only fit right back isnt ready to start a premiership game then i do believe we are missing an opportunity.i aint craving signings for signings sake im craving we back our manager as i think he is mustard and worry like some of the earlier ITK have said he is getting increasingly frustrated.if we lost him over penny pinching after what he has done to this club would be sheer madness. May never have a better chance.

Sorry but you're judged on what you post and accusing the club of penny pinching is wide of the mark imo. I believe that your frustration has boiled over and you are reacting! If it helps then fair enough but don't get all sensitive if people call you out.

You may be right, it could go tits up. We may sign nobody, but then again we may just have a few deals that could be completed. No one really knows. If we do sign these players my guess is that we don't hear from you again to apologise for being wrong. Whichever way you look at it best to can the frustration until 31st August.

The itk over the last few days has been very encouraging. Let's see if we can get some players in. If we don't the post mort starts in s few weeks! Coys

It's a valid tactic in the transfer market, but I can't help but wonder where we could have finished in seasons gone by with players in and settled with solid weeks of training under their belt.

Quite obvious we have started slowly, possibly avoidable. That could also be down to these crazy tours abroad we keep going on.

We had the best itk ever yesterday (that @yankspurs real name is hank) and some good itk from jj and hertyid today, yet everyone is having a meltdown. I love this place.
Hopefully should have one done by the end of the week.

Reading through all the post, it feels like the TW ended already.
You can tell from reading through all the positive and negative post we all have one common interest and thats the progression of our club.

love him or loathe Levy, he has always done things in the interest of the club.

To say i am happy with our current transfer activity is an understatement. However i just have to take a chill pill and trust levy and poch to keep driving us in the right direction.

Three disagrees sums it up, people believe that Zlevy does not have the interest of this club at heart or are disagreeing that we ALL want what is best for this club!

Imo many Spurs fans have not seen the bad times, when this club was truly on its knees. That of they have forgotten or perhaps were not taking notice!

Love him or hate him, Levy has been the driving force that saw this club finish 2nd and has delivered us Pich, CL and a team to be proud of. Coys

Or in our case: Penny Pinching Prevents Players Putting Pen2 Paper.

PPPPPPP: Pride Preparation and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

We finished 3rd the season before last, then 2nd last season. We have great synergy in the youngest team in the league. We don't need to change much, the players will keep improving naturally.

I accept that Trippier's injury may be a problem, but we haven't heard if he is out for this weekend yet! Even if he is, we have Eric Dier to cover.

FFS people GROW UP!

Great news on Barkley.

Incidentally I was one of the many that was very apprehensive when were about to go into a season crying out for a DM yet we had the cheek to try Eric Dier out in that position in pre season.

Turned out pretty well by all accounts.

Poch knows what he's doing regards the RB situation I'm sure.
