There are two ways of looking at this. Either we hold all the cards in the Toby/Martial deal, or we're in a real catch 22. The sticking point is De Ligt.

United (Jose) want rid of Martial because in his opinion he isn't good enough.

We seemingly want rid of Toby for not signing his contract and being a twat about it.

If we don't sell Toby, we keep an outstanding defender who will be forced to work his bollocks off to get back in the good graces of Poch and his teammates and can still integrate into a productive member of the squad. Martial has openly been called shit by his manager. There's no coming back from that.

If we've put all our eggs in the De Ligt basket then we need to get an agreement with them, before making it public, whilst swapping Toby/Martial and then announcing De Ligt as his replacement. #Levy'd
This is the type of situation Poch is referring to when he says we need to be brave. It is a tricky situation as you say. However, if we are left with Toby, De Ligt, Verts, Sanchez, Foyth and Dier as our Centre Back options....we may be 50m poorer but we won’t let any goals in.

Play them all and sell Hugo!

On D-Day, British and Americans joined together to storm the beaches of Normanday. Have a feeling this cryptic might be Pulisic joining us. Or could be an American currently in France joining us(Tim Weah, George’s son, comes immediately to mind - he’s been angling for more chances at PSG or a move)
I think you are forgetting the Canadians my man................Paul Stalteri!

Seems really quiet on all fronts for us at the moment can't really see us signing anyone

I think maybe the D-day is in reference to contracts surely?

Slightly worried though as I could see us ending up with

Shaqiri > Martial
Hegazi or Foyth > De light
Rondon > Llorente

All the rumours coming out are linking us to budget players again which is worrying.

I am not going to be brave and call it. I expect with what is going on (negotiations), I expect 1, more likely 2 signings before WC starts. One ‘may’ be seen as ‘meh’. But don’t knock it, as Poch sees him as No.1 choice for him in that position.

Seen as meh but first choice in that position is interesting?

Wonder if it is a player from one of the relegated teams eg. Rondon (who I personally love),Hegazi or Shaqiri.

So we have 8 days until the World Cup starts...

This is great news . Shows we are backing Poch. Hopefully Grealish is the meh one as I still rate him as a good back up to eriksen

To be fair, if Vorm leaves then Pau would be be a good number 1 choice for the back-up keeper spot...

Thanks for sharing as always. From exciting signings transiting to "meh" signings seems to be the norm for the past windows...

McCarthy is the media link, and could be "meh", but I can't see it being that position. I rate PG anyway.

More likely to be a Grealish or Shaqiri type of player imo.

Surely No.1 choice in that position means just that, first team, not no.1 choice as backup, which would be err no.2 choice in that position ?

For me, meh = Rondon. We’ve been linked to him in some papers. We’d be very underwhelmed but with Llorente and Janssen on way out. Makes sense we are in for another striker in that profile OR as somebody on here mentioned, Jay Rodriguez.

I could see that being Grealish as well, especially because I I can't recall strong links to many other pure #10s--mostly wide forward/winger types. Don't think Grealish would do anything to lessen our interest in Martial/Bailey/Pulisic/etc. type either.
