Think that's a bit melodramatic.

I mean if we are having to sell two of our best players to help finance the new gin palace then let's just ground share with Stevenage.

Makes just as much sense.
What I meant by that statement was that much of our money is/will be tied up in paying for the new stadium, and that, like we have been told in other years, we need to sell before we buy,

I don't see the logic in us going for Rodriguez when we will hopefully have a fully fit Lamela next season.

I also think we can do better than Lovren.

Not really the same kind of player, are they? In addition, Lamela is going to be starting at Square One and getting used to the EPL all over again. Given the scant evidence of last season, that's going to take some time. I really hope no-one's expecting him to click from the off and start tearing the league up, because they're liable to be disappointed.

If Pochettino wants Lovren, we'll go for him.

I'm gonna be disappointed then mate. I'm hoping now that his injuries are behind him and after a full pre-season with Poch and his team he will be like signing a new £30m player.

Not the same kind of player but both would be vying for the same spot on the right no?

I'd love to think so, but pre-season is pre-season and real football is real football.

i don't really see why signing rodriguez would have any impact on lamela. they'd both play.

Think we all ready have players like Lamela who can play in that wing forward role. Would like to see us use our money to strengthen other areas of the team. Rodriguez won't be cheap, and their asking price will sky rocket if they sell Shaw and Lallana.

That's fair enough, and the high line we played under AVB and Sherwood (why, Tim?) really highlighted his weaknesses. However, when you think back to how seriously rapid Ledley was pre-injury (and Gardner, although he wasn't quite so fast when he had to run and control the ball at the same time) and compare any of our current CBs, only Vlad can in any wise be called quick—and I don't see him giving Robben a 10-yard start and running him down.

It's very hard to think of another player whose merits are so ignored and whose demerits are so heavily stressed. (Yet in 2005-06 even the mildest criticism of our shiny new CB was liable to get you a flaming.) However, five very different managers have made him first choice, even if that has at times been by default. One of them actually wanted to sell him.

That's not actually true. Redknapp didn't make him first choice, that was Kaboul and King if fit and AVB was happy for him to be sold, only for all the others to end up with serious injuries throughout his tenure. Even Sherwood had him as third choice a few times.

Really ? You do know that Levy fired the woman he appointed to find us a stadium sponsor after only 1 year in the role ? I'm assuming it wasn't because of her stunning success.

In the first place, there are other calls on the TV money. There's the stadium, for beginners, and then there are wages: in the year ending June 2008, our turnover was £114m, with £52m (or 46% of it) going on wages; five years on, turnover had risen to £147m, but wages had shot up to £96m, or 65%.

On top of that, transfer fees are inflating. Arsenal signed Cazorla for £16m/£17m two years ago; now, with £25m being talked about for the likes of Lallana, that's starting to look like a real snip.

Our wage bill has been between 90-95 million the past four years, if we were break even then, then what do wages have to do with the extra 30+ million the club will be pocketing? And no, wages are not going up from that 90-95m bracket.

You listed a player signed for a good transfer fee and a player being touted at an inflated transfer fee. I'm sure you can find a player who was overpriced from the summer Cazorla was bought. That doesn't really tell you much about the market nor does it really have anything to do with the club putting that 30m onto the pitch. Even if fees have gone up, we could still spend it.

really, i doubt very much that mattered mate.. im sure we have sponsors lined up, im also pretty sure the club stated the stadium has no baring on the football side, with regards to signings..i also believe this myth that gets bandied around that we need to sell players to fund the stadium is total crap.

but this is the itk thread not the stadium thread, so i think its wise to get back on topic (y)

Fair enough, hadn't seen that.
That's good ITK, the best random kind.
Not sure how kosher, but good nonetheless.

If
"my cousin's mate's girlfriend's goal-keeping coach's nanny's milkman has heard it through the grapevine that such and such did bla bla bla....and da da da...."
qualifies as ITK these days, then perhaps everyone's random opinion should count too?

The info that i shared was nothing groundbreaking and to be honest i'd like to think if i was going to come up with a wind up it would be something a bit more juicy.

Actually it is true, Daws and King was always Redknapp's first choice but Daws got injured allowing Kaboul to get the pairing with King when King was fit. That doesn't quite tell the whole story because both Kaboul and Gallas were brought in to boost the CB options particularly because of King's ongoing injury problems and iirc Woody was still around early in Redknapp's tenure but also struggling with injury

Actually looking back our CB injury problems must have made it difficult to ever have a regular preferred CB pairing, just a pity we couldn't have had a constant in Ledley, for me around the time he had partnered with Naybet and had made that step from lets say a promising young cb to a top player he was as good as any CB I've seen over the years
