Getting Grealish is not brave. It's desperate. We have been after him all summer, and haven't snapped him up yet because we are looking to save a few pence. It's sickening that we will have no new players arriving to a magnificent new stadium, a team playing CL football, and the best run of form for years and why? Because of our chairman's priorities

You must enjoy growing the nice red line under your avatar @Sidney Trotter.

It’s at least partly because of “our chairman’s priorities” that we even have “a magnificent new stadium, a team playing CL football, and the best run of form for years.”

But this isn’t the thread for it. Take it somewhere else.

I think that the Grealish ITK is reassuring. I am sure we are ready to seal this deal any time, as soon as we are certain where the rest of our money is being allocated, predictaed upon sales/loans out and other purchases.
Personally, I am very pleased that we continue to look for young, English talent like him, but also like Sancho last summer. I just wish we were bringing him in alongside some real midfield experience and class (in the mould of a Modric type?). Who knows, perhaps we are trying? Thanks Trix

Now Donna, what have we told you about breaking rank.

(Not really the place for this upchuck, chief).

Hertyid:

It makes no sense for the club to leak they have money and not spend it, if we don't have the money in the first place.
Much easier to say 'we don't have the cash' than to say 'we do have the cash but we don't fancy spending it'.
So I can only believe that we do have the money, as has been mentioned by many sources.
So for DL to not spend any of it would seem highly unlikely to me. And would be a collossal admission of failure. As such I can't subscribe to Trix's thesis.

A lot of HYs stuff seems to be more opinion this window rather than passing on 'ITK' information

Have I missed something? What's he referring to when he says Trix's thesis?

IMO That is not ITK and shouldn't be in this thread.

What thesis is he even referring to? Us being apart on the financials for Grealish? Doesn't really apply because he never said we were unable to pay up.

Disagree. Season ticket sales for starters.

You can always pretend that you couldn't get the targets you wanted/ lack of squad spaces / wanted to give youth a chance etc. Admitting you have no cash is suicide in football. We would have constant rumours of players being sold to fund a crisis or leaving because we lack ambition. Arsene Wenger only opened up about the extent of financial restrictions at Arsenal post stadium move when they were over the critical point. Prior to that they peddled out the same "we're ready to compete" lines our club are currently doing.

Add to that trying to get a decent price for Toby, which seems to have been our main focus this window.

Peope aren't stupid though. We've just built a new stadium and signed a load of existing players up to new contracts. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that there isn't much money to spend on new players. If anything, surely people would see the Arsenal experience as a potential parallel, even if it is an unfair comparison (i. e. different financial arrangement). Not disputing hertyid, just saying that I can imagine people not being shocked if there isn't much money.

Trying to use a bit of common sense here - so we have Stevie Bruces' recent u-turn on Grelish, i.e in last few days he's gone from saying ''owners said he's not going & we don't need the money now'' to saying ''there is a human side to this'' ''player wants/deserves PL/CL football'' & then taking him off to a standing ovation after 80 mins but suggesting a ''magical figure hasn't been reached yet''

Add in the info that Grealish WANTS us, and then all the ITK that the deal has always been there to be done.

So why hasn't it ? Surely this deal can only have been left so very late for one reason, and that has to be that we are still juggling several pieces and waiting to see what bits we can slot into the jigsaw before we pull the trigger on several deals (due to finances and how different targets fit within the squad + the often discussed HG restrictions).

If the hierachy at Spurs really feel Grealish is the only incoming deal we are going to do then imo it would have already have been done. The longer it goes on suggests other options or combinations of options are not yet considered dead or un-doable.

If i was being super optimistic i would suggest that the reason Levy has left it so very very late is that there is then the potential to swoop in for a really top player (who nobody thought was available) and leave other PL clubs no time to respond with (better) offers of their own.

Explain how it is desperate. As you've said we've been in for him all summer, if it were desperate it would be a last minute panic buy with no negotiation. Please delay your bitching till Thursday evening.

Hope so mate - would be nice although I can imagine with Grealish that it might just be that they simply haven't agreed an acceptable fee up to now.
