I'd take McCarthy all day.

Really tidy player, uses the ball well and very disciplined. He also knows the league and would slot nicely into our system.

Problem is that Everton spent something like £14m on him not so long ago so they'll want at least £20m now, surely?!

I'd say it's more likely the bloke at Atletico, Suarez. Older and cheaper, possibly what we need but looked at hesitantly after the whole Fazio thing.

Of course everyone would love Kramer but he's a German superstar in waiting who just signed a new contract. No way he's going to choose Spurs. If he goes he'll have his pick of CL clubs IMO.

I'm starting to think that too unfortunately. I think the 2 "bums out of seats" players could be Carrasco & Njie.

I don't see why there's so much negativity towards him. I think he;s a good player and fits what Poch is looking for, but its his injury record which is a concern.

When you consider how much we've been burned with big money overseas signings recently, I'm not surprised we're looking closer at home for the one really significant signing we need to make this summer.

Its about a player fitting in and improving the team, if fit he could well do that for me.

I know most are a bit underwhelmed by the prospect, but he'd be a good signing I think. But whether we'd be prepared to pay what Everton would want is unlikely though.

Hmm perhaps, but I would have took the thumbs up to be answering the question with a "yes". Plus the other ITK which says McCarthy isn't happening.

Not that I would be against getting him, he's a decent player. I just think he would almost certainly be over-priced.

I technically asked two questions. I cocked it up.

I'm thinking Mario Suarez unless he ends up at Inter. Would be nice if there's another target though.

To be fair this position can afford to be less sexy as long as they can do the business.

Only played more than 40 games in a season once in the 6 seasons he's been in PL, so consistent problem ?.

Funny thing is, I don't see why people are worried about his injury record. He missed 10 league games last season ans the last time he missed a league through injury before that was 2011.

I don't want him because he will be a big money signing (domestic big money signings have been just as unsuccessful as overseas signings) and I think his positioning is poor for a player that is known for being better defensively than offensively and misses more tackles than he wins. I would rather we stuck with what we have (we are already adding Carroll and Alli and Dembele is staying) and see how they do for a season, then bring in a player that I am confident we will be trying to off load in 2 seasons.

Don't get me wrong, if we sign him, I will back him and be open minded when judging his performances.

Yep, I did say that was the only real concern I had - injury record. Couple that with the fee Everton would be looking for, and I think its unlikely.

Witsel would be interesting, funnily enough he and Chadli have an incredibly similar bromance as Jan and Dembele.

Think we've already had this discussion on stats/tackles etc, too tired for it now. But from having watched a fair amount of him, i do think his positioning and defensive side of the game is good, and I do think he'd offer what Poch wants. But can't see us paying what Everton would want so this is all probably moot.

But fair enough, we all have our preferences :)

His record isn't bad at all.

14/15 he was injured for 10 games
13/14 he played 45
12/13 he played 42
11/12 he played 34 but was dropped for 5 games (on the bench for most) and Wigan were knocked out of the cups on the first game.
10/11 he missed 14 games because of injury.
09/10 he was 19 and didn't break into the team until midway through the season.

Hmm interesting bits of ITKs.......If its JM is the player that JJ is alluding too??.....then it should be Lukaku, being "the Brussel Sprouts" (and from the same Grocer - team) as he is still very young and have huge potential still. Mirallas is not a player with potential anymore considering his age. Interesting indeed.

13/14 I missed the 6 games he played in the championship for Wigan, which makes his record better, and looks like a persistent injury. Do we know the injury problem in 14/15 ?

Zenit apparently paid €40m for him... can't see them accepting half that lol

Lukaku £28m transfer to Everton a year ago though ? Expensive as a back up for Kane

It's now Wednesday, so where's the NFL announcement?

As you can probably tell, I've got bored of waiting and slowly slipping into hysteria.

Yeah, understand the huge transfer fees......Lukaku can also play RWF effectively, so he is an option not just as a direct Kane substitute; albeit a high price on his head. Lukaku did not do as well last season too, so pricing drop abit?
