Wasn't Gareth Bale wearing Nike when with us? So maybe the deal would be financed by Nike to get him on their sponsorship deals rather than looking at what he currently wears?

Interestingly I was told a few years back that Adidas paid a huge chunk of the Torres transfer and wages to move him to Chelsea. So there is history there.

Problem is, just like every promising transfer we get involved in, we may think the initial financials are doable, until someone else gets involved and pushes the goal posts out of reach. United would throw everything they have into it I'm sure, plus even more worryingly Chelsea are also sponsored by Nike

If we are his preferred choice that is awesome but money talks.

Would be a dream to get him back, but would be a miracle.

I'd just be happy to get a couple of Poch's targets over the line!

Pretty certain he was Adidas for a long while, he was one of the poster boys for the old f50s

I think talk of him being on 350k after tax is slightly irrelevant. If he leaves Madrid he isnt getting near that anywhere from any club in the world (that he would want to go to) and if he is told he is surplus to requirements he doesnt strike me as the type to stay for the wages.

As for who he would replace (if by some miracle he signed) I would like to see Eriksen drop back deeper.

All well and good, but, as has already been pointed out, he's an Addidas athlete.

No it's not. It's the term that is used in America to describe the face of the franchise. You're literally the only person I've ever heard use it when talking about a football player.

Respectfully, you don't define the ongoing use of the English (or 'American-English') language. Terms morph and get borrowed, and I don't believe it's my invention to use it this way. I don't care to trawl soccer forums to demonstrate my point but should you - 'literally' not having heard the term used that way- you will find that it is only a reflection of your linguistic exposure (should you feel moved to investigate further).

Hell, even the word literal itself has now morphed and is acceptable to be used as 'figurative'...

I think some people have said that he's signed with Nike for next year...
Apparently in 2014 he signed at 20 mil 6 year extension with Adidas. Obviously that could be broken I guess if Nike paid out the contract, but I doubt it. He has been with Adidas since 16.

Well now if we don't sign Bale then this summer is a failure in my mind.

How far we have come from not signing Llorrente (annually), Huntelaar (annually), Damiao (annually), Lass Diarra (annually), Charlie Adam, Phil Neville and Carlton Cole and calling it a failure of a window to not signing Bale being a failure....
