Is Elmander a veteran? Surely he's in his twenties

I fully expect to see at least one new striker at the Club, and feel probably two are likely. Harry has defended his strikers because he doesn't want to compromise their perception in the market place and of course if a few of them stay he doesn't want to publicly undermine them affecting their confidence levels. I find his remarks sensible and covering all bases.

I'm confident that Levy and Harry are fully aware that this department needs strengthening in order to truly compete next season.

Firstly, Elmander is 30. He's been playing professional football for a long time, and was Premiership proven, which I thought would make him a perfect fit for what Redknapp is after. We passed, clearly.

Secondly, everyone knew back in January that we needed a striker to compete for 4th place, yet it didn't stop us from not landing one, did it? We passed on Suarez, who Redknapp didn't feel was a good fit, and had other bids rejected abroad. Who's to say we don't pass on certain strikers this summer and have bids rejected, leaving us empty handed or scrambling?

Personally, I don't know if Redknapp has a desire to spend major money on a player from abroad (especially a striker), since it's a risk he may not want to take with the England job looming. I actually think he rates Defoe and Crouch highly and, isn't playing clever word games like you insinuate, to inflate their value.

Judging from his past and more recent comments, I think it's very possible that he prefers a rather conservative approach, which brings on Scott Parker, Charlie Adam, and Phil Neville, while hoping that the leadership provided by these lads will transform the team from within.

your use of the 3 dot system at the end of the sentence just keeps me on edge mate. Please stop it. I can't sleep, without waking up to check for the next bit

Yes I stand corrected, he is 30 - but I wouldn't say thats quite veteran levels yet

Regarding spending money abroad, well there certainly seems to be a lot of strong opinion that we are looking at many options.

January is always more difficult time to pull off deals, particularly ones of considerable size. Not saying that fully exhonerates their failure to acquire one, but its a factor.

Last summer nobody would of guessed that our strikers would of under-performed to this extent, yes most would of liked a new striker back then - myself included, but nobody saw this abject contribution from all our stikers this season coming.

If we dont upgrade this summer, with at least one new striker coming in - and I mean a number 9, I would have serious reservations about; either our ambition to compete at the top level or the managements incompetence to spot areas that require obvious improvement. I cant see it being the former even though we have limits regarding wages etc...and the latter shouldn't be likely either despite what Harry says in public.

However, this is the first real opportunity they will have to rectify the situation given that January isn't ideal and they've had time since then to undertake the necessary homework involved in drawing up a list of viable targets...all the while, with time ticking on, our strikers havn't improved since.

I'm prepared to reserve judgement until the window is getting near to closing, but I think our business will start earlier this summer given the importance of making the right improvements to the side for next season.

Harrys comments also very much alluded to the other top teams strengthening...this isn't him gurning, its a clear message that we will have to spend to improve in order to compete with our rivals.
