Why ? We need the Modric cash to help buy a STRIKER or two.

Remember the bit of the squad which is nost in need of reinforcements ?

And I have every belief that the striker situation is separate to the Modric deal. Have we not always considered the Modric money will mainly go on Moutinho? Levy will surely back AVB on the striker signings as a separate issue unless your of the belief that we will wait for Modric to go before signing a striker? In that case good luck with an hour to go before deadline.

I am sure Ley can buy 2 strikers - but maybe some extra cash from Modric sale will allow a much better secoind striker.

Most ITK suggests Moutinho is now much more expensive than first thought and if Modric leaves we will get less than we had hoped - so suggest Moutinho is off the agenda.

I just think Porto are doing to us exactly what we are doing to Madrid.......And I still see both deals eventually happening. If Ade is one of the strikers he is going to be relatively inexpensive and so he and 1 other such as Leandro is viable for say a £30 million outlay which I would imagine Levy will back a new manager with.

With the strikers its the wages which are the issue not just fees - Ade £5m transfer fee + £120k pw (or £ 6m pa) = £29m for a 4 year deal.

And with Spurs gross revenues, Ade's wages are still a big bite - even with imporoved TV contract. Ditto issie with any other top striker we are linked with. That is why we may need some of Modric's money to cover a better striker than we would otherwise want to afford

Agreed mate but its about due time to get a raft of other earners off the books to cover much of this......Easy to say I know.

But it would go along way to it, and we have to start paying out if we really do want to be getting Champions League regularly.....And no I'm not in favour of breaking the very sensible structure Levy has in place, I just mean a bit more than we have been up to now. Either way, its a debate that we will still be having every year

(1) unexpected departures, in fact rebrb sneakily added in today's thread that unexpected may be more than one

(2) we are going all out for strikers "even better" and A&C hinted llorente and ld as our top choices now

(3) jj saying in view of (2) maybe (1) too, modric could end up staying

(4) we will only sell if his valuation is met

(5) jj saying modric flew off to USA to meet levy for showdown talks

(6) we all know what happened last year when modric had a showdown talk with levy

JJ said the exact opposite to (5) unless he retracted his statement. There was a huge debate over a typo on isn't, but his hash tag was clear as to what he meant.

But just had a quick look back in the RO, pottle says modric training alone in isolation and player meetings continuing today (supposing he means for the whole squad)... And then jj says epic fail of a meeting >> hence my understanding that modric is not training in isolation nor involved in the meeting as he is flying over to meet levy in the USA.

Must have missed something in between then... Nevertheless, point remains - it doesn't sound like our dealings have to depend on modric sale money...

A sense of calm fell over me last night.

We are trying to get our quality players in and move those unwanted on, with the knowledge that we have the money to do the deals WITHOUT the Modric money, but not letting that be known so we dont get charged a premium.

We don't need to sell him and will wait until the 31st if we have to, but I feel we will have the rest of the squad in place.

A final thought I had was us finalising the Leandro deal, and another top striker, while some here are committing hari kiri, and really looking forward to our game against United.

If I was Ade and knew that we were after Llorente 1st, before signing him as 2nd best, I would tell us to where to go and look elsewhere for another club.
