You are deluding yourself if you believe there is any truth in this story.

Why is that can I ask? Do you think he is significantly above the quality of player we can attract? because I don't... He is in the last year of his contract where he has been pretty unsuccessful at Bayern, his wages could obviously be a stumbler, but honestly, we are an attractive proposition especially being in London and in the CL (and with one of the youngest, most dynamic and promising teams in the country (even Europe))

it seems weird that Liverpool (who have finished above us once since 2009) potentially signing him wouldn't have been a surprise to anyone, but for us to would be deluded ?

I'm not so sure

'His wages could be a stumbler' is the biggest understatement in history

The Liverpool thing is easy as he knows the manager having played for him previous plus liverpool will/can pay the transfer fee and wages we dont/wont.
When you factor these things in its easy to see that this deal will not happen for us although he would of added something for sure.

is is on 7m Euros at Bayern Munich, if we were to match Bayern wages then yes he would just about be our top earner at £120k per week.... but he probably would expect to earn a little less considering hes moving away from one of the biggest 3 clubs in the world

Even if it was £120k per week , we're not talking Rooney, Ibra money here by any stretch

He will know we and the rest of the Prem are flush with Sky money, much more chance of expecting a pay RISE not a pay cut

Well, looks like im on my own with this one, but I still believe we will make another key signing, before starting a CL campaign ..just like we did last time with VdV .. and I certainly think Gotze fits the bill on the type of signing we would make

Because Liverpool pay higher wages than us and have no qualms about spending vast sums of money.

Like it or not we are not going to make any marquee signings.

Wishful thinking or living in hope, take your pick. But both leave reality on the back burner

Honestly I don't know what motivates Gotze right now (well, I have seen the pictures, and I know his girlfriend motivates him...), but if he was looking for a chance to regain his stature, he may be willing to sacrifice a little money to do that - we do represent an opportunity for him to wipe the slate clean, and start over with a coach who has a history of improving players. If his goal is to be in the German XI in Russia - there are not many better places for him to go for a couple of seasons.

Its still a stretch - but its not an impossible fit either in terms of money or opportunity.

Yes thats the reality of it and certainly not negative but we sign players before they are marquee signings to avoid large fee and wages, we then develop them further and sell on in the future for a bigger profit all very simple.

Given that we've actually had no ITK on Goetze can we not fill this thread with it when there's already a thread full of your jizzfest fantasies on this player.

Don't forget, clubs often won't match wages (if the player is moving to a smaller club) and the players and agents know it.

They'll be offered the additional, say £2m p/y, in performance based bonuses. In a case where the club is uncomfortable about smashing a salary cap, they'll set easier targets to ensure the player doesn't lose out financially.
