Fantastic news, and a very clear statement of intent from all involved.

So, of course, TalkSport etc. will spin it as including innumerable get out clauses if we don't win the treble next year.

SSN leading with the Stoke 'goal' in their coverage.

Infidelity and divorce - a statement of intent?

Centre midfield for me is the key area this summer. Whether Dembele stays or goes we can't rely on him to play every game. We need a top class centre midfielder. As good as Dembele is I hope we can find someone a bit more creative who will be involved in more goals. I like the potential of Winks but I think we need someone a bit further developed for the first team.

Pardon my ignorance. Can anyone please enlighten me as to what Igi means?

It's short for igijedi who often provides us with good news about imminent signings or contact extensions.

First thing my mate says “we all know it just means he will command a bigger transfer fee if he decides to leave” I need better friends

There was an article the other day saying that Kane is the most expensive player in the world when you factor in age, skill, contract length, etc. With the new contract no-one will be able to afford him.

ali z: As I said when Toby news broke, this is one area the club does it all it can in , they are trying and close to getting deals done for all our major players Alli, Eriksen, Verts, Hugo, son etc, anyone gets too greedy and it's goddbye, tbf to Levy he pays what the club can afford and now with a new stadium he is paying more as we can afford more, simples.

So maybe.... he’s a good businessman after all :angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic:

Obviously there needs to be a cull to get rid of the idiots who either don't understand what this thread is for or don't care.

As soon as I've taken care of that I'll unlock the thread.

ali z: With Moose it's difficult he wants a big pay day and long deal, not interested in short term deal , money as not issue he wants extra year(s), think he will probably go.

Great insight. Ultimately, this is how Levy is running things, and if the best striker on earth, England captain and one of the worlds most marketable players is happy to fall in line, any player who isn’t can do one as that player has the wrong priorities to fit in with Pochettino’s MO.

More than that, it is a good impression to broadcast that players who are loyal, committed and perform well will be proactively rewarded. Not many clubs voluntarily provide new contracts with increased wages on a regularly basis, unless the player kicks up a fuss or their contract runs low.

I would say that a new contract for our best players will stop people from saying they're all leaving, but we know that it'll be spun in some way or other.

Dembele's difficult. He was simply amazing at times in the season just finished, that remarkable performance in Turin being the absolute zenith of that... but it did seem to me that he tailed off somewhat towards the end of the season. He was hardly alone in that (Chelsea aside it did seem we were mostly grinding out results after being knocked out of the CL) so I suppose it comes down to how much of that was the general fatigue that was hitting all the key players, and how much was age and his injury record taking its toll.

I can understand why the club would be reluctant to commit to a lengthy, pricy contract given those factors. Assuming we do bring in a successor, the argument could be whether we need to extend his contract. He's such a good player, and has been so important for us, that he deserves having his contract extended... but do we want to be paying him top whack in 3 or 4 years time, if that's the sort of length of deal he's looking for?

I'm gad it's not my decision!

Good to see Aliz's itk on Levy increasing wages with increase in income, I remember shearer saying Levy won't raise wages because we have a model and won't change it but just couldn't see that the same model was bound to lead to an increase.
Nice to have it confirmed though

Great reward for his loyalty and hard work. Also a good role model for the young kids as shows what can be achieved.

I agree but very confused as ali z contradicts the goat

So, if we’re potentially making signings after contracts of current playing staff are all sorted, we’ll really have to go some over the next few days before the WC starts if the ITK stuff is to come to fruition.

Yeah grealish seems to be underwhelming a lot of us. Lol
In all seriousness, i think our fans would take to him a bit better if he sorted his barnet out and pulled his socks up - makes him look a bit egotistical

Imo though i think he'll be a good signing if we get him, and hopefully he'll take to our play like a duck to water
