Well this brings into play the English backup and i'm hoping we can get King in over no one. I know he's no Keita but I think he's solid and he'd do a squad job for us, he gives us pace as well which I think we're lacking. There's also the Poch improvement factor too.

After missing out on multiple targets i'd definitely take Barkley, King and Toljan/Cancelo now. Although slightly weaker at RB it still leaves the squad stronger overall I think especially if Lamela turns out to be OK in a month or two.

I'm not particularly confident of us completing a deal for King, there's no expiring contract or buy out clause I'm aware of and pl players are poor value for money

So let's get this straight:-

Zaha - Signed £100k+ plus new deal (at fricking Crystal Palace) :dead:
Sessegnon - We 'won the race' but he chose to sign a new contract at his boyhood club :dead:
Foyth - Deal looked on, then off to PSG, not looking great :(
Pereira - First choice RB backup, didn't do due diligence on ownership issues :dead:
Keita Balde - Followed since Jan, now off elsewhere :dead:
Barkley - Absolute saga
Gazzaniga - Supposedly on, looks cheap and pony, yet still not over the line

Going well Spurs (y)
Generally, not specifically to the above players who may or may not have all been genuine targets, doesn't everything really boil dpwn to our inability/refusal to compete on wages. Once another club gets involved we are invaraibly sunk. Even teams like West Ham and Leicester will blow us out of the water. When you have a cap of £100k pw for world class players already at the club, it is impossible to pay same/higher wages to attract someone to the club. We are left to wait for a last minute panic move or to wait for the leftovers. I am convinced that Chelsea, who now appear as desperate as us, will simply wait for the Barkley saga to run its course, match our bid and then offer him substantially more money and he will go there. If they want him , they will get him. I see no real answer to this problem. We just about managed to defeat Everton for Sissoko at the 12th hour last season( even though most of us wished we hadn't) as they were working at about our level then, but this season, they would have got him. The next problem in this dynamic will be when we get offers for our top players and , despite them being on lomg term contracts, we all know what happens in practice( Southampton already trotting out the ' we will let him rot in the stands' nonsense - he will go sooner rather than later. We have over achieved but that, in itself, is now causing these problems.

Wages are an issue I agree, but Walker aside, the retention front seems pretty solid, I'd imagine most of our key players have had enquiries. I put that down to Poch however.

Just bored of this rhetoric.
Poch has just said fans to expect 3 or 4 signings. I trust the man , so going to be patient. Only player I really want this window is Barkley. Let's see if we can do that.
Mate we are all bored of it but we have to trust them there is no choice really, the problem now is what type of crap is attainable for us given the latest ITK.
I think now is not the time to kick off but come Sept if nothing has happened them we can sound off.

He did. Poch actually said that we were close to doing something but it fell through.

He did sounds very sheepish about transfers on Sky, I didn't hear him actually say that though. Said he needs players to put pressure on those in the shirt and that young players need to be given the belief that they can do this.

I didn't get the feeling he wanted to give much away either way. He didn't seem confident either way as well.

Every season better than the last under Poch.

The signings in 2015 pushed us up a level. The signing of Wanyama pushed us up a level last season. Let's not pretend the transfer window isn't hugely important for Poch.

He's not an actual magician, he needs the right additions to squad. Right now it's been by far the worst window since he became manager and he knows that we desperately need 2 or 3 quality additions to push on again. I think we will sign a couple of players but it's been a shambles so far.

Talksport quotes Poch as saying 'we are close' on signing/s.

I am just pulling that from their website. So defer to anyone who listened to his interview and felt he said 'we WERE close'

At least we know he doesn't read this thread and is not whom our itk's get their info from.
