Oh, I totally understand. But I'm clinging to the positive ITK stating that we will have a decent transfer budget.

Add to this that we seem to be linked with a better quality player this time round, plus hopefully some encouraging feedback from players, along with the fact that hardly any transfers of note for any clubs have been conducted thus far this window.

Conclusion, at present, it seems like we're in the mix along with others. Can't really do much more than that until money sees us fail

But again ITK seems positive, so that'll do me for now.

My first post said that I hoped we had some time limits on the deals we'd put forward but I neglected to say that I hoped that was what Trix's 'next 2 weeks' scenario was about. That's me being optimistic probably.

Another reason for the urgency, which is consistent with Trix's news, is that I would imagine that we want to get the naming rights done in time for the new season. And you can bet that any potential partner will want to feel like Spurs is on the up with exciting transfers coming in - not just massive uncertainty around whether we've peaked and players will be heading out. This is one of those places where Levy surely gets that by spending early, he's going to reap dividends w/the naming rights - which surely is $-wise the most important piece of business on the agenda for the summer.

The next two weeks will hopefully define this summer's transfer window. We want them in early and have certainly been looking to do just that. Problem is these are all players wanted by other clubs, and unlike Madrid we are not at the top of the food chain, so things innevitibly take a bit longer. We have been working on the players in question though for some time, and I'm told are all keen on a move to us. The names this time round are pretty much already out there via the press, so I expect little as far as surprises are concerned.

Bale's agent and Madrid are in a stand off, a case of who blinks first so to speak. This does not mean he's coming to us, others interested, but I would not rule it out at this stage. What is for certain though is no one ATM is willing to go near paying what it would need to get him out of his Madrid contract.

There's a couple of other bits hopefully I can post a bit latter.
Is it just me that’s excited to hear this but also so scared?

I'm pretty confident we'll sign someone this summer, but can't say I'm optimistic about getting deals done in the next two weeks. We've been told we're a much more attractive proposition for players, but also that we're not top of the food chain. Surely if players only want to move to us though - as is being suggested with Sessegnon and possibly Lo Celso - other clubs' finances shouldn't be a factor and the negotiation should be quicker.

Not being funny we’ve heard it all before trying to get the business done early doors etc.

It remains to be seen whether we actually are serious and push for our first choice targets. I’m apprehensive on how crucial the next few weeks will be for us, because it seems like we’re at a crossroads on whether we actually want to compete to be one of the big boys. Or if we’re simply happy competing for top 4.

If it’s the latter I can’t see Poch and co wanting to stick around for much longer. Which would regress the club significantly after so many years of hard work to get to where we are.

Thanks for the info Trix. I'm more confident than I have been in previous windows, simply because the fees we're supposedly willing to pay for our target players appear to be close to the top end of the market.

If we've offered up to £60mill for Lo Celso, for example, then it's difficult (but not impossible) to see a team like Chelsea come in and blow us out of the water as has happened so often in the past.

Of course if a genuine elite like Barca or Madrid wants one of our targets then there's very little we can do about it, but that will probably always be the case for us, new stadium or otherwise.

I think we will know how the window will go, by how the progress goes with Ndombele. It can be done early if we have changed our ways. If that deal drags on i'd be worried for the rest of the window.

Thanks for the info Trix. I am getting a little bit of "World Cup Deadline" deja vu reading it, but hopefully it turns out better. Last year, when nothing was done by the start of the WC, I started to worry. Hopefully GLC and TN'D can get completed in these next two weeks because the longer they drag out, the harder they probably become. Sounds like the one key difference this year than last is that the players involved are keen on us, whereas last year we seemed to be seen as a second or third option for the players.

Bale was always going to be a late August, miracle type transfer so not too fussed with it. The two big midfield names are what will define this and perhaps our next few years forward in the market as Poch can't be too happy if he doesn't get his targets for a second straight year. This seems to be the moment and hopefully it will work out the way we all want.

that will be too late, the window closes at 17:00 on 8th August

thanks for the info @Trix lets hope we can get deals over the line as early as possible, but don't go into meltdown if nothing happens in the next 2 weeks:rolleyes:

Thanks for the ITK Trix.

Let’s see how the next two weeks go but that doesn’t sound great to me. There’s an air of familiarity to the confidence pattern again this window (initial supreme optimism, followed by ‘we’re still confident’, followed by ‘we’re trying, but...’).

The stark reality of the finances of these deals are hard to look past. It really does pretty much all come down to money, as much as we all hope the stadium/manager/training ground will be decisive.

Fingers crossed.

Thing that worries me is Trix has said the players are keen on a move to us. Safe to assume that we're getting caught up in negotiations then as otherwise it would be fairly straight forward to complete a deal with all sides on board, and with our track record with balking at high prices I worry that we might struggle to push it over the line.

Me too - this all sounds incredibly familiar. "Trying to do things differently this time...but things taking time...players keen but others interested"

We've been here before and I just can't remember when it ended well

p.s. obviously thanks Trix!
Maybe things are different this time. New stadium, CL final and all that.

To be fair, what might have seemed a reasonably straightforward transfer window, in terms of which players we thought were most likely to stay and which were most likely to leave, has somewhat altered or at least been made far more difficult with a) Real Madrid struggling to decide between Pogba and Eriksen - the only team imo that he'd actually want to leave us for b) Toby proving his fitness levels and seemingly making a lot of noises lately to indicate he would like to see out his remaining year at Spurs c) Danny Rose having a very good end to the season yet seeming rather nonplussed about where he plays football next season whereas d) Tripper seems keen to apologise for a bad year and appears to be desperate to stay.

While i'm as keen as anyone for us to do some business early as the fear of actually missing out on a 'priority' target is something Spurs fans live with throughout every transfer window, it's not hard to see that until some hard decisions have categorically been made (some which aren't in our hands) then a few potential transfers must surely be put on hold. Funnily enough, the transfer that looks the easiest to secure (Sessengnon) would be the one that we actually aren't desperate to do in terms of positions we absolutely HAVE to cover.

Maybe things are different this time. New stadium, CL final and all that.

I really hope you're right

Ultimately, the CL final and the new stadium might make us more appealing to players, but it still requires our fearless leader to put his nuts on the line...and in that regard, this would be the first summer where you could categorically say he'd done that

Cheers for the info Trix.

There are so many factors we have to consider when it comes to transfers, I have said this many times. Even if we are willing to offer what both the selling club and player/agent want, there could still be another 100 reasons why a deal falls through.

I know a lot of us are worried that this is the same pattern as before, but we are offering much higher transfer fees and wages than we have previously. This however does not make us one of the elite clubs that could still get a player through their doors over us. Financials are just one of the many factors that go into a transfer.

We offered £60+ million for De Jong last season and he decided to stay at Ajax, just as a simple example.

History, Location, Trophies and the prospect of Trophies, Management etc etc these are some of the other factors to consider.

Money alone does not complete a transfer, as hard as that may be to understand. I know we would all love the straight forward FM style of transfers where we offer the money and it gets accepted and bob's your uncle we have signed a new player. Unfortunately it just isn't as simple as that.

Best thing we can do is hope that we get our deals over the line early so the big boys can fight it out for other targets.

That's right. I share the scepticism of many others but forever hope that finally, our fearless leader shocks the world with a huge statement of ambition :)

Trix talking about these players being wanted by the top of the food chain may explain the relative "silence" on all of our targets over the last week or so. There was that initial burst of information but then nothing since. Trying to keep it quiet until the deals are done?

Won't happen. All bids and contract offers will get passed around to see if anyone wants to increase them IMO.
