A poster said on COYS when talking about Poch and players being sold

"but I can't see that, given the thin squad, Poch would have wanted Mason (and possibly Chadli) to leave without replacement."

Ali Z responded that

(Hope this makes sense)
I'm not following.

Why shouldn't people lose their minds now. What will change that hasn't changed since we signed Janssen 2 months ago. Never understand this kind of rationale which is prevalent on here. Then the same posters go into a rage when no activity happens. Why go into a rage after the fact when the window has closed or when the opportunity availed itself to strengthen the squad.

I don't think people should lose their minds full stop personally. However, the window hasn't shut so we could sign 2 or 3 players yet. No one knows.

Everyone keeps saying that our rivals have strengthened while we've stood still. Other than the money bags teams, which of our rivals have strengthened more or better than us?

Well when you're talking about being top 4 and PL title contenders as well as playing in the CL then it is the money bags teams we are talking about here.

But for arguments sake let's exclude Utd, City and Chelsea.

Looking at Spurs - Chadli, Mason, Bentaleb all left. Jansen and Wanyama only two players signed so far.

Arsenal - strengthened more than us with Xhaka, Perez and Mustafi as their main 3 players incoming as well as youth but still potenital squad players of Asano and Holding. No major outgoings.

Leicester - probably strengthened slightly more than we have. Signings of Musa, Mendy, Kapustka and Hernandez. However given they won the PL last season they had in theory the better team to start with. Kante only major outgoing.

Everton - 3 solid players in so far in Bolasie, Williams and Gueye, along with Stekelenburg as new GK. No major outgoings.

I don't think any of them ever said that Isco was coming, or even that it was likely. Just that we were in negotiations with him, his father/agent and Madrid.

I think one of them said last night 'it's on!' But I'm talking in general, plus with regards to how a manager feels, I'm always sceptical about how someone would know that. Did the source see Poch walking around with steam coming out of his ears? Was he mumbling 'fucking bald ****' to himself while eating in the canteen? I dunno, ITK on someone's feelings is probably difficult to prove.

Not good ITK

Ali Z, on 31 Aug 2016 - 11:59 AM, said:
My concern is Poch he let players go with a promise we would improve quality, this is yet again very short sighted by Levy if we fail to get anybody bar GNK and Pau.

Also

Ali Z, on 31 Aug 2016 - 11:56 AM, said:
Hence my call for calm yesterday, typical Levy, bad news as it will upset players and Poch, broken promises

And also regarding Poch

Possibly but not walk out just go if he gets right offer, he wanted to improve quality and use youngsters to develop quality and have back up, if we fail to bring in at least 1 more we will have limited forward/creative player at least- Zaha, Coric were both players he was happy to bring in, he wanted more pace, he wanted more options so he could have a plan B/C etc numbers were not that important but certainly been left with less than he would want.
This Reads as though it's all onions, not fact.

have to disagree, if we really serious about Isco or any player for that matter we wouldn't be trying to sign him on the last day.

You can disagree all you want, but the vast number of players that move on deadling day every year shows that's not the case.

For example Real Madrid were very serious about signing Bale from us, but didn't do so until deadline day.

"Can't believe we're starting the season without a defensive midfielder. Yeah Dier's played there in pre-season, but he's hardly gonna do it all year is he? Our back-up centre-half as a defensive midfielder in a team that's supposed to challenge for the Top 4, we're a laughing stock. We'll finish below Palace and Stoke - just look at who they've signed".

I think that summarises the mood last year.

It also goes to show that most of you, including me, know absolutely fuck all.
I think somebody should quote this post on every page of this thread today.
