Yes I admit I thought top six was the best we could get last season. Fortunately for us 3-4 top 4-5 teams had a nightmare season and this has never happened before certainly in a PL season. So yes it could happen again but certainly not this season.

There has been a vulnerable elite side for each of the 3-4 seasons, it isn't a one off it is actually happening more than it use to. And besides what exactly do think our clubs position is? We are not an elite side our natural position to challenge for that 4th place finish. We are well primed to do that.

Leicester apparently spending £30m on Slimani! LEICESTER!!!! And Gooners have been criticising Wenger, he's still shelled out £60 plus million for new players.

Ambitious? Our chairman? Proud of our club and wanting the best for it? With all the extra TV revenue and CL money?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You can certainly argue we "got away with it" last year. If Kane had got injured long term our 1 striker policy might have seemed a tad foolish then.

I think the people who are concerned this time round are purely failing to understand why we risk leaving things up to chance when we are a profitable CL club.

I think last year we did get away with it, and should've brought someone in.

I really don't think that's the case this year.

Well let's go back and throw everything we've got at him, even give him a night with Doris the tea lady if that's what he's into and will get him here...

Damn! We didn't sign that extra player. We're destined to finish mid table. Like last summer when we didn't sign a DM or back up striker and ended up mid table like everyone promised...oh, wait...
If all the top teams would have performed as expected last year then we would've probably finished 6th. That aside, we were extremely lucky with injuries and fell at the last due to our squad quality. This year, we haven't improved the first eleven, just the squad, which is now extremely thin and dare I say it, inexperienced. For rotation, we are now relying on Carroll and Winks as CM. I'm sure the 3rd choice keeper will come in handy at some point in the season.
All rivals have strengthened their first eleven so this year will be extremely difficult.
So, for the first time in 5 years, we've reached the CL, expecting to push on and keep our place in the top four by signing some quality upgrades, only for Daniel fucking Levy to fuck everything up, again.

But if you're happy with our transfer business, good for you

We really don't need sisoko for that price. We have dembele wanyama Ali and dier that can play in the middle. All of which I prefer. Personally I would have kept mason but we got a good price for him. Chill guys

I'm sadly not surprised...

Current transfer window (inc Townsend from last Jan where Spurs bought no one):

£5m Yedlin
£3m (post loan) Fazio
£12m Townsend
£13m Chadli
£17m (post loan) Bentelab
£13m Mason
£9m Pritchard
£72m

Vs

£17m Jannsen
£11m Victor W
£11m Nkoudou
£5m (post loan) Lopez
£44m

Circa £28m left over with wages freed up too. Keep our net spend positive as is our mantra...

Our squad is going to be a joke particularly given the CL commitments!!!

Agreed terms with Isco and Madrid but haven't signed him. Something doesn't add up there. I'm sure Ali Z is passing info in good faith, but he is all over the shop today.

Isn't N'koudou exactly that sort of player? Pretty sure every time he gets the ball he runs at the opposition. Who knows if he'll turn out good but we've done exactly what Soton did when they signed Mane originally and signed someone at reasonable price with upside.

Wanyama and Janssen have filled gaps in squad. My main issue is we literally have no one who can do what Dembele does, not even close. Without sorting this it's hard to view this window as a success at all.

Mane was established and known. I wanted us to go for him before he went to S'ton. NKD, I am honestly not so sure. I made my views known about Janssen, which is being seen now. He is here now soI will support him.

From my eyes we missed a trick and had all summer. Absolutely no excuses.

i think i need to get a better understanding of not only our club finances but also other clubs. With all this extra money washing around from 3rd place, and CL and new TV deal i thought we might have quite a large positive net spend this summer. But nothing has changed in that respect.

So how are we being out spent by all other clubs? Ones without CL football? without 3rd place prize money? Are they borrowing against future earnings? Are their chairmen loaning them cash? Are we actually one of the few sensible clubs? are do we lack ambition?

We keep being told the stadium won't effect things, but i think it must be.

Can't help feeling we are going to leave the party just before the strippers arrive

The problem is that the extra TV revenue is normally eaten up by wage inflation. Just to stand still we have to negotiate new contracts with players over time, and they/their agents know we have more money to play with, that other clubs are offering more and therefore demand more. On club accounts, player spending is made up of two factors: the wages, and transfer fees paid over the course of a player's contract (e.g. a £20m fee for a player joining on a 4 year deal is shown as £5M per year, plus whatever his wages are). On this measure, we are very likely still the 6th biggest spenders in the league, just as we're the 6th highest revenue club (miles behind the top 5).

TL;DR: Transfer fees are far less important than wages, which go up over time for quality players and which we spend plenty on.
