Where are people getting the maths that we made a profit from?

Looks like:

Wimmer 18m
N'Jie 6m
Walker 45m
Fazio 4m

Out - 73m

You could possibly include Bentaleb for 15m at a serious push, but not really.

Against:

Aurier 23m
Sanchez 40m
Llorente 15m
Foythe 8m
Gazza - no idea, free?

In - 86m

Am I being ridiculously forgetful about someone else we've sold? How have we made a profit exactly?

Bentaleb - 16 million.

Yep, he was still our player.

Good window for us but admittedly not excellent! We've certainly improved on Wimmer,Walker and Vinny with Sanchez,Aurier and FL. Plus we've bought a good prospect in young Foythe. Remembering he was wanted by PSG. The RB situation was unfortunate due to his injury. Can you really blame Levy in the circumstances?! I'm optimistic that if not for the injury Levy would of paid up and come to some settlement. I mean he did it with Sissoko for gods sake! With Ross it would of been a very very good window.

But lets not dismiss the facts that we have also
1. Not lost any of our top players. Not even Rose!
2. Plus the fact that we didn't loose out on RB , RS and even FL to our rivals (fuck you chavs! even Sancho not signing for the Arse ) Hopefully we can get the other 2 come January.
3. But also for once...we haven't bought sub standard players. Far too often this has failed in recent years. Have we in fact learnt our lesson that we only want our top targets or none at all.
4. Who we have signed are very very good.

Now all the talk and hope of 'pace'. Now that would of made the window an excellent! Maybe point 3 applies here.

Would love to see levy and poch with financial backing.
Hopefully we get a massive stadium naming rights deal sorted soon and can have some fun next year.

Yes we are never going to have an enormous net spend, but it's also not just about balancing books. Certain players we like, that represent clever value, influence things if they become available. if the player becomes available and is affordable I believe we would go for them regardless of whether it took us into a bit of a net spend.

As an example, if we had managed to sign Balde at 30m odd, I believe we would have still got all the players we ended up getting. Llorente AND Balde would have been a real double upgrade to our AM and ST areas and I don't think we only went after Llorente because we had failed in the AM area.

I believe we would have paid the money for the likes of Isco, Batsuayi, Hazard, et al over the last few years if we had been able to get them in.

What's frustrating about this window is not that the ITK didn't come to fruition. It's the fact that we merely did what a responsible club of our quality should do. We had one significant loss and we replaced it with like quality (no mean feat). We also came into the window with two significant deficiencies. We needed a quality CB to back up Toby and Jan as well as one that could play in a back three. We did that. We also neede a quality striker backup as Janssen is not able or ready to contribute. We did that. We also sort of needed to start getting in future starters at CB considering Jan and Toby are a little older. We did that.

What we failed to do is what an ambitious club of our quality would do. We didn't succeed in taking that next step. And it's frustrating because it appears from the ITK statements of intent that we realized where we could improve but we failed to get it done. I don't doubt that it is difficult to make these quality of signings happen but I think we've missed an opportunity to really go for it...to really challenge to be one of Europe's top tier clubs. Maybe this unusually young squad will improve enough naturally to keep rising but signing a "game changing" midfielder was what ambition called for and it didn't happen.

Still, I remain hopeful and am looking forward to an exciting season. COYS!
