Whereas we will in effect being paying off a huge mortgage on the new ground for a long time to come, Stamford Bridge is owned by a trust who were given ownership as part of the deal that saw Ken Bates by the club, with it being loaned back to the club on a 199 year lease paying only a peppercorn rent (£1 per year). So while Chelsea's council tax/ rates will be potentially more (though North London, even a low value area like Tottenham, always has huge rates), they are effectively there for free and will be for long after we are dead. Chelsea, to their credit, did try to buy the deeds back so they could own and redevelop but this was turned down, hence why they're looking at Battersea now. As for cars/ chocolates, point is that we just because we've not signed anyone, it doesn't mean our product has gone from being a Bentley last year to being a Merc this year, it's just that now we have last years model of Bentley while Liverpool (for instance) now have this years model of Rolls. The funny thing with cars though, the new models are often not as good as the old models. I know that an N reg Rover 620, with it's Honda engine, was far better than a P reg as by that point Honda weren't involved and the new make just wasn't as good.
I bet your a laugh at parties....

I admire the optimism about ripping it up this season but what makes you think that, this squad wasn't good enough to win anything last season, we haven't improved and add in extra fatigue from the world cup. We literally limped to 3rd last season as it was. Failing to strengthen from a position of strength is verging on gross negligence from Levy.

It would of been great to add one or two real quality additions, but that's not easy so it's not gross negligence from Levy at all. It's very difficult to Improve this eleven in these market conditions.

I don't see those players returning as fatigued, I see most of them buzzing with confidence.

We'll also have a true home advantage this season so the fans can play a bigger part and that can make a big difference.

You're half empty, I'm half full.

Is there a specific reason we needed a cryptic for that? At that point from what I remember Herc had let it be known that we were interested.

It was before it was public and we were asked not to let his name out.

Thanks to everyone for their contribution to the window, especially the mods for making the site run smooth as silk.

My two cents. I am disappointed that we couldn't find the deals in the market that we wanted but I am also very happy we have kept the first team in tact.

No doubt we have a big season ahead and sure our squad may be a bit lightweight in a couple of areas but we aren't a team in decline in any way shape or form.

We have reinvested in the team we already have which certainly hasn't come cheap and it's really the first time we can afford to have our star players heads not financially turned in the slightest. That, for spurs, is some feat and I for one am still positive about our ability to compete with any team on our day.

Our players haven't been the only reason we have lost games in the past and Poch is a year wiser too. he also has something to prove with regards to our tactics in our big big games.

Sounds like spin and it is I guess, but I'm a positive man by nature and as long as we are still all professional in the changing room and on the pitch, I still think we are going to challenge

WC players will be knackered come Xmas, 3 week break, no real options to rotate, we better pray Kane or Eriksen don't get injured or we are royally fucked....

I think there's a lot of truth in both of your posts.
I am trying to see the bigger picture of a difficult window and hard to strengthen such a good team but then I think of how we had no one to bring on in the cup semi when 2-1 down to make a difference or think of an injury to Eriksen or the fact that Sissoko will still get minutes and I flip back to your way of thinking.

I wonder if we actually rejected bids for Toby or if Utd never actually came in for him too. Odd window.

That's a very big call. I'd be delighted if we finished within 5 points of Liverpool

I understand they've spent a lot and have improved, but it's not that big a call when you consider we finished above them for about the last 8 seasons bar 1.

We hear it every year, but you make it sound like we're big under dogs to get near them lol

I hope you're right fella, I just expect them to finally put it all together this year. Here's hoping the move back home helps us.

They spent £67m on a keeper that is still not as good as ours !.....EDIT but ok is better than mignolet and Karius maybe

To be fair, I think it will be close, but I think us having a proper home advantage will give us an edge.

We didn't brilliantly last season playing at Wembley all season, another thing that is lost on most.

Watching Pochettino presser, it's obvious that we weren't going to sign anyone for the sake of signing someone. Case in point, Andre Gomes who has signed on loan for Everton, we could have signed him quite easily and had been linked in the media and ITK but we didn't pull the trigger, same with Grealish we could have overpaid for him and got him but we chose not to.

The season ahead will determine whether it was the right decision but personally speaking, I cannot see signing mediocre players for the sake of it being worth it and it isn't where we should be aiming.

Getting a 1st teamer to improve our first 11 would be incredibly hard, full stop. Maybe players to improve the squad easier but those players have a value and if they are overpriced then we shouldn't buy them imho.

People aren't happy, I get that but we've genuinely a chance of silverware, maybe even a title challenge and we are moving into a state of the art new WHL. Take a step back and realise that things are actually good atm.

In 38 games + cups, we will see if the vitriol and teenage I want strops were worth it COYS

I'll be interested to see how this plays out if we get injuries to the likes of Kane, Eriksen etc. I agree about not buying mediocre players for the sake of it but christ, there must surely be a realisation at the club that in this day and age you have to spend big sometimes in order to move forward. This is especially important if you can offer CL football!

This whole experience brings back memories of the Sugar era where he refused to sanction £6 million for Sir Les in 1996 (who went to Newcastle to score goals galore) only to spend that much on him when he was all but done! That era saw us fall behind the rest, this is different as we will probably still be in the top 6 (I hope)

Time will tell I agree, what a way to gamble though?!

will only take an injury to CE and we will create fuck all, it is a major problem. If we stay injury free it will be close between us and them.

We don't even need an injury to Kane or Eriksen. If Kane doesn't have an another amazing season, for whatever reason, then we're fucked. We are so reliant on those two it's unreal.
