Tbh I think it was wishful thinking. New stadiums cost money, and I think we'll be in a similar situation to Arsenal for a few years where just keeping hold of our best players is a victory, and a signing or two is a huge bonus. Of course it's worse now where a decent player in the current market costs almost 1/5 of a stadium.

Hoping I'm wrong, but we all know Levy is someone with a keen eye on financials.

Definitely don't think that we should be wasting money on dross just to placate the fans but Levy did say that the stadium wouldn't affect transfers.

Maybe he wanted only his top targets and once it was clear they weren't happening he didn't want a Sissoko MkII happening so just vetoed the lesser players?

Which is fair enough, even though i don't believe there is A Sissoko MKII out there...

I remember the stadium being talked up be Levy years ago when a figure of £400m was mentioned. Delay and ditheringfor years has cost Levy/Lewis up to £500m in stadium costs.
