I think he'd be a good signing but I also watch a fuck tonne of La Liga outside of the big 2 so witnessed enough of his time at Valencia to know there's a good player there who's just not made the most of a big move (comparisons with Zaha anyone?).

And yes, totally agreed with you on Toby-Martial.

If it's the Gomes from Valencia, that'd be something maybe to stoke the fires. This last 18 months (I think) or so at Barca don't reflect on him well.

My hopes are still flat lined though.

I would not mind Mario, he is actually been decent before and nobody at west ham last year really looked good. How would you with tactical genius Moyes in charge. Overall we don't need much unless its a mega signing to actually improve the first 11 which is a tough one and i don't think Grealish is worth all the hassle either. He would have so much competition he would spend most of his time on the bench.

I think some of you lot want signings for the sake of it.

Have to agree, think we only need a couple of signings. A loan with option to buy could work for the right player, a bit like a try before you buy which I would be fine with given some of our past transfers not working out.

Possibly, but does make you wonder what the point is of the loan in the other case. Might as well just make it permanent.

Only reason I can think of is to get around FFP somehow like PSG did, but can't see how that could apply to us.

If we were absolute about the player we likely would make it permanent. From what Herc said, I’d assume it’s players we’re not certain of. With the clauses, we’d be set to buy them if we play them (meaning they worked out). Quite disappointing.

Seeing as it's Gomes then a) at least it's a player ITK have long said Pochettino wants, who only didn't sign last year because he wanted to give his Barcelona career another chance, and b) a CM who has technique and the ability to pass.

And no, this isn't me making the best of a bad situation because all the 'you bsodl ****' accusations come along, I said I liked him at the beginning of the summer too when we were first re-linked to him.

We had agreement with Gomes, but did not action, as we had other options. It is upto the player I believe. Don’t bank on it happening. Couple of others being offered to us as we speak. I wouldn’t call them brilliant signings, but more meh. Decent signings (if we progressed). About the price to take such risks. Looking in 15m range for players in mind.
