He's right though. What is available out there isn't better than what we have. There is a general lack of quality.

There is a lot of quality out there, it just that it costs north of 65 million pounds (or astute signings like sanchez, but that was a lot for a very young unproven player). It just whether we are willing to pay those sums and their respected clubs allowing them to leave/not placing silly inflated price tags on them.

Last season Poch repeatedly played the likes of Sissoko and an out of form Aurier over our highly rated academy prospects but now all of a sudden the youth are the answer to all our problems. As others have said, it's clearly out of necessity not choice. I would have no issue at all if Poch had looked at the young players in our academy and decided that we didn't need any signings due to the quality coming through, but that is clearly not the case as we have been chasing signings all summer. Just very, very ineffectively.

You know what - you're right. I've had a mare. Poch doesn't want new signings. (y)

Correction - he doesn't want signings for the sake of signings.

He might have wanted Zaha or Martial, but it's clear that they don't want to strengthen us by selling them. Plan B is something no one has wanted based on discussion.

Who wants another Sissoko?

To make this whole transfer window worse, once our one closes, we're still going to have to deal with Eriksen being heavily linked to Real Madrid for a few more weeks if Modric leaves...:inpain:
I dare not imagine if this came to fruition...Really need to see some of these contract extensions signed over the next day or so..

If Toby not sold today, he will not be available. Apparently settled his differences with Poch and club. Let’s see...

Well that’s some turnaround! Although it begs the question, if everything is now rosy why would we even consider selling him in the last hours of the window?

RE: standing still

If you believe that the only way to improve is to constantly rotate staff then yes. If you think that any of our World Cup semi-finalists (and winner) haven't learnt anything or mentally strengthened since their 2017 selves then also yes.

Time will tell.

We've made our bed, now we have to sleep in it.

But that means no excuses:

No "our players are tired after the World Cup"

No "it is taking us time to settle into the new stadium"

No "all of our competitiors have strengthened"

If this is all part of some grand plan, then great. No need for excuses.

But if that's not the case, then don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Zaha was gettable for a price - we've been told this time and time again. We, however, were unwilling to spend the money in order to get him...for the 3rd season running.

I'm refusing to believe that a shrewd businessman like Levy and an outstanding manager like MoPo, both visionaries and knowing we are a top 4 club with a state of the art world-class training facility, opening a high class stadium, competing to win something and maintaining our standard will not add to our squad.
Liverpool have tackled the key problems to challenge Man City. Man Utd are looking to add and solve their defensive problem. Arsenal have signed some players. Chelsea have done their business and may not have finished yet with either Zaha or Martial. I can't see Levy and MoPo just sitting there and do nothing.
Something has to happen... I believe
I was with you, until 12pm came and went. Now I can't wait for the DL thread to open. Can't see anything changing now.

Nothing has made sense this window. It's time to stop using the little grey cells making any sense of this window and what is left of it.

I do not believe the realistic options are/were zaha, matrial, or sissoko II.

there are more than 2 good wide forwards.

I am one sad, sad fucker spending so much of my summer on here :( Im honestly embarrassed with how upset the window can make me. Need to have a long, hard look at myself and my priorities tbh:unsure: Thanks to all the mods for running the site and keeping it going and thanks to the ITK's for passing on info to the best of their knowledge, but can some mod ban me from the transfer section for my own sake? Thanks

Not necessarily true. Are Chelsea stronger? No, I think they've gone backwards. United? One signing of note, lost some depth, and don't have what they need at CB. Arsenal have got a few players in but they were some way behind us and those players don't seem like top class signings. The only ones who've really notably improved on paper are Liverpool, and even then there's the potential for them not to work out or to cause issues in the dressing room. There's no way of knowing for certain until we get past the media frenzy of the summer and reach that bit where 11 blokes try and kick that round thing towards the right end of the green field.

Huh?

They've lost a keeper who wanted to leave.

They've signed Jorginho, Kovacic and Arrizabalaga.

Their midfield is now Hazard, Kanté, Kovacic, Jorginho and Willian. If not on par with Manchester City's midfield then it's very very close.

They've also now got Sarri.

Claiming they're weaker because they've lost a goalkeeper (who has been replaced) is bonkers.

Martial swap only I would hope. Probably not rosy, just better - something we can work through.
