I’m no accountant but it is perplexing that we are not only outspent regularly by the other 5 of the top 6 (which is understandable with their greater income) but we get outspent in terms of net spend by a lot of other clubs in the league. Especially when itk points to money being available and the stadium being ringfenced.

Never mind it’s not like we haven’t been here before COYS
The stadium has played a part in this for sure - Itk as always has to be taken with a big bag of salt, and that's not discrediting them, it's that things are fed to appease and that the info we get on here is often old news by the time it reaches us and things have changed

Just out of curiosity where did the £150m war chest rumour originate? Was it just based on prospective player sales that failed to materialise?

Wait, you'd go to the first game of the season at our new stadium if it was this weekend and you're mindset would be anything other than 'COME ON YOU SPURS'?

That any supporter could imply this, even in jest, is far more upsetting to me than any lack of transfer business.

Yeah hes organising a march starting at our brand new state of the art training ground and finishing at our brand new state of the art stadium, wanna join?

Looks like Janssen staying.

As it stands we've 1 to many foreign players for the PL squad, and 3 too may for the CL.

Presumably Nkoudou will get a loan somewhere, and one of Llorente or Jansen will go on the 31st.

If you're looking for positives, at least then we'd be in slightly less of a mess for future windows.

Toby sorting out his differences with Pooch is a personal thing. It means nothing until such time as he signs a new contract. Be realistic he could still go next year. All this is a stay of execution.

Why does it have to be another Sissoko if it's not Zaha or Martial? Why can't it be someone else who can actually play and costs less - maybe actually scout in countries other than England maybe?

Because Pochettino obviously has a list of players he wants, and doesn't want any "plan B" players.

Come on people, he talks about this kind of stuff all the time

Think it would be pretty clear that isn't who the supporters would be against.

Do you know how we would look to other football fans and the media if we started kicking off against levy whilst turning up to games in our new world class stadium in our best spell the club has seen for decades?

Entitled comes to mind. We'd be a joke.

I like the idea of sitting in a brand new stadium which Levy has massively helped to put in place and then booing him.

That'll make our fans look stable.

Oh bore off mate lol - I never once said that.

I said I'd still be pissed off with the club. Which is true. I'll still be pissed off with the club in September for this window.

Of course I'll be behind the team, but it might make me think twice about spending some money in the club shop for example.

My little glass ball foresees major ructions if we don’t manage to beat the Geordies on Saturday lunchtime. People are talking about the Scouse game but there are games before that. Got to hit the ground running.

FFS.

Liverpool finished in 4th and made the final of the Champions League - and Klopp got the support from his chairman to go out early in the window and pay the market value for the players that he wanted to address his team's weaknesses (plus got some great value in Shaquiri).

Yet, somehow we are incapable of doing that despite qualifying for the Champions League windfall for the last 3 seasons.

Explain that.

Okay, I will.

The crucial period historically in which the currently big clubs set themselves up for success was from the early 90s to the early-mid 2000s. That's when the Premier League money grew, Sky began broadcasting it to all and sundry, and the international market took up substantial interest.

In that time, Liverpool were regularly in the top 3/4. They played exciting football. They won the league in 1990. They won two FA Cups, three League Cups, a UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

We had a new manager more often than men change their pants, were owned by morons, openly showed disgust towards the international market and "Carlos Kickaballs", tried our very best to get relegated, were normally mid-table, and won two domestic trophies.

Today, this means that Liverpool earn £136m per year in commercial revenue, while we get £73m. They also have had a much better stadium because they improved it properly once the all-seater policy came in, so they've been getting £74m matchday income rather than £45m. And this has all been in perpetuity with the advantages it brings compounding with every year it's gone on.

That's around a £70m per year gap between us if our performances on the pitch are identical. Even if we are in the Champions League and they're not, they are still way ahead of us. That's the way football's gone. We've also had to make huge investments in facilities to try and turn this around long-term, which means in the present we have even less money to spend on the actual squad.

And even then, we're told they've had to take large risks, and pay way over the odds to clubs, players and agents to make these transfers happen. If next season they finish 5th and us 6th, we'll be fine - they will be in a world of hurt.

Decades of abject failure have severe consequences in the modern age. We have fought our way towards the top end despite that, and making the changes that could end our disadvantage permanently. But 20 years at least of failure nowadays takes at least 20 years to reverse, and we're a few years off that yet.

2 hours until all my mates who support different teams laugh at us for not strengthening our side. Only positive you can look at so far is Toby.

Is it ok to go off topic and talk about the ITK?
Do we think Val was saying that we'll be promoting youth players, or that the 'meh' players that Hercules mentioned are young players like the Norwegian kid?
