If we are going with the 'promoting youth' line as a reason we haven't made signings .... and then Sissoko starts ahead of Skipp this weekend then we riot... *

*riot = express displeasure in the the match thread... **

**If we lose, because hindsight is great.

Weird that the Goat hasnt come out with "That's all folks" yet. Get that thing out of its pen again and put us all out of our misery here so we can start the mutiny on Dear Leader Daniel Levy, @Archibald&Crooks

It will be humiliating if our fans protest at our opening game in the new stadium because we didn't make a signing. People are bothered now that we're a laughing stock because we haven't signed anyone.
I mean tiger... this is unprecedented levels of incompetence. No outgoings or incomings, only team in all of premier league and champions league. Fans have every right to be upset. I don't understand you stance. Not a single other fan base would fault Spurs fans for being upset. They would all be equally as frustrated!

All the talk about youth is all well and good, but I still think Sissoko will be playing there pretty regularly this season. Which is incredibly frustrating.
And unfortunately will be playing fairly often until we can find a suiter willing to come in for him. But the solution to that certainly isn't to make another Sissoko-style desperation signing.

This is so boring.

We're the 11th most valuable, and it's mainly based on our assets (high value players, high value new stadium, debts owed to us by others), and a part of that is our liquid but only a part. And our liquid is far less than those sides who each have over a decade worth of CL and, in some cases, over 2 decades. We may now be getting a big slice of TV money, but we are massively playing catch up. Then factor in that our global brand still generates a fraction of all the other top 6.

As for Levy's salary being doubled, actually no, he just received piled up bonuses from previous years on top of his basic. And oh, shock horror, MD of giant international corporation is paid a lot.

We have money, the clubs who are after players who are good enough for us have much more money, the players going for fees that are in our current ball park are nowhere near good enough for us. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground, or if there is it's only in a few circumstances. Grealish might have represented that, it turned out not. Shaquiri might have represented that (though lord knows what his salary is when the fee was so cheap), but then we are overstocked with AMs who are at least as good if not better and mcuh more in tune with Pochettino's work rate requirements.

Just because Mr Bob owns a house worth £300,000, he still needs to have an income (not just turnover) which allows him to spend money on food. He can't offer Tesco a flower from his garden in return for a piece of bread, it doesn't work like that. Just because we are valued very highly and we are balance sheet rich, it in no way means we are cash rich and the fact that nobody gets this is deeply, deeply upsetting.
Thanks, Daniel.

Where this argument falls flat on its face is when you look at many clubs beneath us in terms of stature, Champions League football, Domestic League, etc. that spend millions each transfer window in attempting to strengthen their squad and somehow continue to operate.

Whether we sign anyone or not - and I'd rather not sign players if they don't improve our first team - what is clear to me is that with DL at the helm we will never be serial challengers for the PL - just serial floaters that will hover around the top 4. Every time we have been in a position to seriously make up ground in the transfer market he has bottled it. Everything has to be opportunistic with him. If he had made just one fcuking signing of note this summer be it a CM or WF that would have got fans / players and Poch excited, everyone would enter the season in a different mood.

You don't fucking boo at the opening of a new stadium, remember, the fans will be here long after Levy is gone, you'll look a right **** booing into thin air because the board pissed you off. You're there for the product on the field.

because they disagree with you?
No, because booing our own side is despicable in any circumstances.

And they don't disagree with me by the way, I fully agree that this window is disappointed and I have concerns about the season ahead. I'm just not desperate about it as I still think we'll have a good season, play good football, challenge near the top and I'm fucking excited about that.

Looks like Janssen staying.

As it stands we've 1 to many foreign players for the PL squad, and 3 too may for the CL.

Presumably Nkoudou will get a loan somewhere, and one of Llorente or Jansen will go on the 31st.

If you're looking for positives, at least then we'd be in slightly less of a mess for future windows.
Some cynics, might say that levy already has prepped Cullen on the next bout of excuses for future windows :sneaky:

And if it does mean we can give some more young players a chance then I'm excited for that too. One thing I really do miss about the Europa is seeing those players desperate for a chance show what they can do.

Thanks, Daniel.

Where this argument falls flat on its face is when you look at many clubs beneath us in terms of stature, Champions League football, Domestic League, etc. that spend millions each transfer window in attempting to strengthen their squad and somehow continue to operate.

But, who are they buying? Do we want them? Can we move them on after paying them a Tottenham salary if they fail? Will coaching them mean taking time away from more suitable candidates? Will they pollute our locker room, and damage our hopes?
