Grealish and Martial I would have thought. Levy must have thought Grealish was in the bag....until Villa was sold and everything changed.

And he must have thought UTD were desperate enough for Toby to do a deal that involved Martial going the other way. Call it circumstance or misjudgement or maybe he took his eye off the ball 'cos he was concentrating on the stadium, but I guess if they were the targets, anything else was second/third best; or as you say 'bust'.
Seemed like a few ITK's suggested Grealish wasn't our first choice tho. Fuck knows. The thing that makes me laugh is i remember watching a league run down end of last season and the pundits going on about our lack of money and how we wont spend big. Everyone, including myself, had a good old laugh. I guess we got that wrong.

For better or worse a leopard cant change its spots.

It seems people became too accustomed to deadline day activity. It's ok for the club not to have the same strategy every summer. And having made the leap in terms of wage structure on top of the new stadium, it doesn't seem that bonkers for manager and chairman to invest in the current squad and agree that the current squad can be competitive.

Cheer up buckaroos - we win our first trophy of the season on Saturday (as long as Inter do not beat Atletico by 3+ goals, and score at least 5 goals in the process...)

JJ on Twitter with a slightly different perspective:

@jetsetyid so nobody in at all then JJ what a disaster

Depends on what constitutes a disaster and a success with our current squad however I’m not too bothered either way as knowing all details and facts it’s not as it appears and Poch is fine

If Poch is fine then that is a relief. If Eriksen signs I'll be relaxed (plus the other key ones).

Still think it's a massive missed opportunity and confirms our ambitions are purely on the top 4. Logic dictates that standing still (fingers crossed we don't sell Toby, Dembele, Rose now) is not the way to progress, and certainly not overhaul such a huge deficit to Man City.

Just have to hope the new stadium and pay rises energises the quality players we have.

Small jet just headed over Watford. This is either a new signing or Levy making his getaway humming like Digby Chicken Caesar.

still F5ing this thread when I know it’s too late... it’s just gutting. Signings are part and parcel of a new season and all the hopes that go with it.

Finding it really hard to be excited about it now but I know in a couple of weeks I’ll have forgotten all about it.

Onwards and upwards

We are in this situation every year and we have done well each season. I for one am annoyed with the lack of signings. BUT i dont think we need to sign people for the sake of it.

But if that's the case, why not make that statement at the beginning of the summer? "We are building a great new stadium and have a young squad that finished 3rd. This summer the focus will be on giving our players raises and focusing on the squad we have. We will watch the market to see if there is anything that we can add to improve our squad, but will be very picky. The main goal is to support our current squad financially and show we believe in them."

I'll also add - I do think its better for the window to be closed today, instead of September 1. I know its frustrating - but once the season starts, everyone knows who is here - and we support everyone who is here.

Except some of them might not be come 01 September...

The only person who knows if Poch is fine is Poch.

Something I forgot to mention.

ITK Bashing.

We saw it surfacing again yesterday. So if you think "oooh it's the last day, I'll indulge myself with a spot of bashing", don't. If you do, you'll find yourself out. For good.

And this sarcastic bringing up of previous ITK needs to stop too. So while it isn't strictly what we'd call ITK abuse, it isn't necessary, it isn't funny and it pisses me off. Please give it a rest.
It seems this needs repeating, the casualty list is growing, you hilarious people.

Haha I love Hercs comments on the club no monitoring social media! The club need to pipe down and take their medicine if they’ve messed up as badly as they have - the truth will get out surely

I see a mass Facebook defriending coming up

Wondering if they are monitoring snapchat too - all the Cool kids are on that these days

And I'm as frustrated as most, but honestly if Poch is genuinely content, and he looked it in his presser, that is the main thing.

We've a great team, and I expect lucas and Serge to be even better this season.

Toby staying and being up for it, would be insanely good.

Settled team, with great harmony - counts more than people think.

Feeling good ( bit bi polar though)

My take is there's no point moaning now it's done. I got that off my chest when it all appeared it would end this way over the last week. We haven't gone backwards at least.

Game on Saturday, I don't want a negative atmosphere around the club. Poch tried to dispel it himself.

Will lose my shit if anyone but Janssen, Sissoko, N'Koudou gets sold this summer though! And will be berry sad if Eriksen doesn't sign a new deal.
