Not surprised by the latest ITK, the January window is a very difficult window to sign other teams key players. If Woolwich do make a move for him then I wonder if we will decide to match it. I think a lot could depend on how well we do in getting rid of some of the surplus CMS

Surely Mitchell scouted numerous similar players in case MS left in the summer. And surely we will go straight after them now that soton have priced us out of the move.

So Schneiderlin is out, perhaps the loan rumors of Samper and/or Rabiot means we are taking a short-term approach to that position, and will focus on buying a striker or LW.

I'm sure Southampton were heavily linked with Clasie at Feyenoord.

One of them was probably Strombouli

Re: Trix' ITK, I wonder if the priorities have shifted somewhat given the massively improved form of the Fazio/Vert partnership, in particular from Fats? It does appear as though we'll have to seen replace Chiriches, but after the loan to buy amount rumored to him, it seems we would be likely set to make a profit going after his replacement in Moreno. So I think it reasonable then to wonder if that's still high up on the list, and consequently if we can divert funds elsewhere.

A pacey striker, who could ideally double on the wing, is undoubtedly high on the list. I hope though that we don't overlook some very quality LW options that will be available this January for dirt cheap in our search for this versatile attacker.

For me, as it has been ever since Modric departed, a playmaking and creative CM has remained our biggest weakness. Mason and Bentaleb have come along wonderfully, but we're unfortunately still too static from deep and still lacking in incisiveness to open things up more for the attackers. If he's willing to come, I hope we can move all of Paulinho, Dembele, and Capoue on to make way for Cabaye. Would be perfect for what we need, and at his age he wouldn't be able to compete with a developing Mason for long. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if he's the kind of player Poch wants. It seems Poch may still be held up on his double pivot midfield for the time being, which I hopes at this point he'd have given up on with us due to the more compact defenses we face. He himself has complained about the size of the pitch at the Lane, so I wish he would make adjustments to compensate to maximize space rather than adhere to his system that allows opposing teams to remain so compacted.

It would make sense though that we're drumming up the loan moves for Rabiot and Samper. Quality youths who their respective clubs will want gametime for, and ideal for us given the unlikelihood of moving on Dembele and Capoue this January. Seems the safe and assured option.

Perhaps we shouldn't go after 'unrealistic targets' but we definitely should aim as high as possible. Our problem in recent windows seems to have been missing out on our top targets and getting 2nd or 3rd choice back-ups. I'd rather not bring anyone in than clog our squad up with people who weren't first choice

We need to stop doing that.

So what if we sell two centre mids and don't manage to bring in Schneiderlin. Let's not go out and buy another midfielder as a fall-back option who will inevitably look to ship out in a year or so.

Incomings would be great but if we can ship a few out in January then it frees up what we can do early in the summer window IMO

I am more intrigued by the loan potential, than I was a month ago. If we can clear some players out - we will still need to have bodies in the squad to cover for multiple competitions, and potential injuries. By going the loan route, we are not committing to a player long-term - thus clogging up the team again. So we can still be active buyers in the summer.

I'd rather we get loans with options to buy, but even if they are straight up loans, I can see the wisdom in not settling for a mediocre purchase here.

I like what you're saying here, but I would be very surprised if either PSG or Barca handed us options to buy for these two players. It's possible with Rabiot as he may have no wish to remain in Ligue 1 and may have signed that contract just to make himself more expensive for them, but I see no chance in Samper at all being willing to leave Barca or them allowing him to go.

I'd much rather us loan in some top class youngsters and trim some of the fat than spend £4-8 million on some more stocking fillers. We need an ipad not a kindle
