Funtime Fridays are what i long for!!

So The Goat has confirmed that we're definitely looking at Gary Hooper! - am i the only one who feels that this isn't the guy we should be going for. I appreciate that he's taken his chance at Celtic and scored some good goals but only a few years back he was struggling at the likes of Southend and Orient and even at the beginning with S****horpe (where he came good in the end).
Ok, ok you could argue that his story has similarities with the likes of Ian Wright - but i'm just not convinced. The SPL is obviously not as strong as the Premiership and i'm not sure he'd cope with the pace or power.
My gut feel is that he's on a good run with Celtic, they've organised a formation around him to keep him scoring and he'll probably do well for the rest of the season - however in the prem he'd probably get found out quite quickly..........a la Jelevic perhaps!

Thoughts?

Potentially, but then I do think he has scored 20+ goals per season consistantly despite taking steps up in leagues, from League 1 to the Championship, and then again to the SPL. So what's not to say he couldnt take the next step up in his stride too.
Realistically, he has a reasonable record in the CL too, and that is a good level.
Wouldn't be my first choice of I'm honest, but I wouldnt rule him out so quickly either.
Someone did make an interesting post last night about what AVB wants from a CF. I was all for someone with more height and presence to take advantage of our wing play, but it was pointed out that AVB primarily wants his striker to work the line hard, all about workrate and putting the ball in the net, nothing more fancy than that. Does Hooper's style tick that box, maybe it appears so.
Incidentally, over the last five seasons (well four and a half since we're only in January), he averages 25 goals per season at a scoring rate of a goal every 1.7 games, which includes 7 in 16 in Europe for those questioning the level he's playing at.

Thats all well and good except for the facts that he was only 18 when he joined Southend, he was only on loan at Orient for 4 games (where he scored twice) before being recalled, scored 11 in 19 on loan at Hereford, and didn't "come good in the end" at S****horpe...he actually hit the ground running scoring 7 in his first 7 games!!!!

And, no, the SPL is not as strong as the PL. But nor is the Croatian league and I remember many dismissing Modric for this very reason. Where a player plays should really never be an indicator as to how good they may be, or whether they are suitable for Spurs.

I'm not saying I've seen a lot of Hooper, nor am I saying I want him or not. What I am saying is that I trust our manager and scouts to do their job and know their business, rather than make a judgement based on where someone plays football and on incorrect information posted by someone on an internet forum.

Holtby (£1-1.5m), Hooper (£5-8m) and Diame (£3.5m) for around £10-13m sounds very Levy-ish.

Can see this happening tbh, but most likely it will be just Holtby in imo

Hey mods - how about a sponsored spamathon one day between now and the end of the window? Anyone who wants to spam has to donate at least a fiver (hopeful...;)). People who hate spam can avoid that day and just look at the ticker. No moaning, it's for a good cause!

Waits for a barrage of "optimistic" reps...

Grey Fox's info

The club has really tightened up on stuff coming out, which is partly because of the new regime, but also normally means something is happening. The club does monitor sites like this and leaks have been plugged, certainly around incomings, they don't seem to be too concerned about possible out goings, probably because they know the press will put out stuff too and can help the touting/sales process. Anyway what I have is this.

I have been told 2-3 incoming possible and the shopping list is a lot shorter. My source says he expects 1 striker, at least 1 midfielder and still trying to bring in Holtby in early. As for names he won't/can't tell me so I honestly don't have a scooby, but it looks promising.

As for outs, Gomes has at least 4 suitors, 2 from the EPL and 2 from abroad, but the fee we want might put some of those off. If we get the MF in then Huddlestone and Livermore could still go, a number of clubs still interested. As for the rest of the dead wood such as Jenas, Bently and co there is interest, but the players haven't been too keen on the options so far.

This will probably be my last ITK this TW, unless I hear of anything concrete or mega, but as they say Silence is Golden or in our case could be.

Coulibaly has gone to Grosetto on loan, Serie B. Second part of Archibald's ITK coming true.

They are bottom of Serie B. Oops.
