Sounds like Wellington Nem is definitely leaving. In his post match interview he said "I was on bench for other reasons, you will all know soon".

He'd be a fantastic buy.

He probably fits better in the 4-2-3-1 as opposed to the 4-3-3, however.

See I want to believe this but I'm not convinced.
The 'Committee' still exists, we have no DOF beyond Levy and we've been here before: witness the Oscar deal from last summer.
As such we are hugely vulnerable to getting gazumped again & we really could do with... I can't believe I'm saying this... doing our business early *hangs head in shame*

Also, despite it being widely quoted that Andre went a-scouting when he was in the dole, I've seen precious little evidence of this supposed formidable scouting he's done. Last year he wanted players he's worked with before (hello Harry) and Brazilian stars, this year he's seemingly after World Class strikers (Villa) and Brazilians again.
No offence, I rate Andre as our coach but any one of us from this board could cobble together that kind of superstar wish list...

I hope I'm wrong and Andre is the loudest voice in the 'Committee' room but our first couple of signings might be revealing here; Vydra or Damaio, McCarthy or Paulinho, Ince or Bernard.

We'll see!

Yeah there's some very good points there. I guess it does make a difference having a whole season to look at the weaknesses in the squad, and work with a new club to identify targets. He did get Holtby, who wasn't a player that he'd worked with, or a big name.

He's obviously going to want stars, so I'm not worried about that. They will be the main targets. I'm interested in seeing who we target if and when those main targets fail to materialise.

Just throwing some possible names in the hat re the Journalist post. "lesser known" Brazillians Carlos More(sp) and Bruma both young but highly rated MFs and Joao Mario, Wellington Nem and Casemio all exciting young Sporting Lisbon players and all had some first team experience and we were/had been linked with Nem and Mario a couple of years ago.

And those of you angry with Leandro, please remember a lot of South Americans say what their agents and owners want them to say and don't forget Agent Sandro has been at work during his enforced leave.

I don't know who the first one is, but the other 4, only Bruma and Joao Mario are from Sporting Lisboa and they are not brazilian. The other 2 are brazilian, but one plays for Fluminense (Wellington Nem) and the other for Real Madrid (Casemiro)

I think this is a very salient point. Like you I like AVB, he's a good coach, and a very good "leader/motivator". But maybe the reason he's desperate for a DOF, is that he knows being a head coach makes it hard to be a scout too. And I agree about his target list from last year.

I think AVB's position is difficult trying to persuade Levy to buy the players he wants. This is where I think a DoF will come in and help both AVB & Levy.

However, as we saw with Comolli I just hope we dont buy a handful of shit with the 3 or 4 stars that come with the bunch.

If we are after Paulinho maybe Dembele will be the AM of the midfield 3.
Which would be interesting, he hasn't really got that creative passing game
but he can dribble past anyone.

Bruma would also be a fantastic addition to our wide forward positions for the future. Only 18 but loads of potential. Such a creative player with incredible speed.

All these Brazilians seem like great prospects but won't they be expensive and not to mention a risk?
I did like the look of Bernard and Paulinho tonight though!

I think Paulinho and Damiao are pretty sure things, personally.

Guys like Bernard have all the talent in the world and the most important thing they could do is go to a situation/team where they can get some consistent playing time at a young age. It's so unfortunate to see these high-quality youngsters go to a team where they are 2nd/3rd in the pecking order for play time. I wish someone would just tell them that at age 19-21, going to a club that may not be the biggest move possible is often best for their career in the long run, as they can really be considered World Class by the time they are 23-24 years old after getting a bunch of experience at still a high level.

Agree with that totally they should be gaurenteed a reasonable amount of playing time at spurs but do you think we can afford them? If we can great because personally I think they improve the squad. But I don't believe that Paulinho really solves the creativity problem Bernard on the other hand does but would come at a big cost...... Say 15-20m

He's a capable creator on the ball. He's got such great touch/dribbling. He's not a Moutinho/Modric, though. He's more of a penetrating midfielder, but his final ball is usually pretty awesome, whether it be a shot or playing a teammate into advantageous positions. He and Dembele would just ruin defenses.

But Dembele doesnt ruin defences, that is one of the slights against him. He ruins opposition midfields with his combination of power and ability to beat players with the ball. If he could add a consistent end product he'd be unreal but he's not that player.

Sounds very much like the advice given to Modric by Bilic before he joined Spurs. I think we can all agree that we benefited from his time with us, and other players in similar positions won't be unaware of this.

The problem with being linked with any of these "young" Brazillians is I'm sure many have multiple 3rd party owners that may not be willing to sell for a "leveyesque" price. So then we agree to a fee with their club. Club calls the 3 different owners and says we have an offer of 15 million. First 2 owners say ok...last guy says no way. Back to square one....
