If the reports of a Zaha's new contract being £100000pw are true we won't be signing him no matter what his release clause is imo

Summary of the window. We have to commend Daniel Levy. There were differences of opinions between him and Poch. I think it is safe to say both saw the light. There is absolutely no way anyone can criticise Daniel and moan about our missed targets, and 'Pinch of salt' ITK's who have given you very accurate, and honest updates, be it positive or negative. We do cross reference on occasions know ;)

Big shout out to Rob (Governor) and A&C, for their excellent work. Before I go any further, I will be donating £50 between today and tomorrow. Bosses please inbox me to remind me.

I will bullet point what was said with results and reasons, to the best of my knowledge.

1. Ross Barkley=As was said all along, not fully fit, and issues with his injury, we wanted to deal at figure which will not go public, but less than chavs, but not much less. He came to London, hoping to be diverted William style, but Everton refused to talk to us, as chavs tried Daniel's famous (after Willian) exclusivity clause:ROFLMAO:

When it became apparent after a flea got in his ear Ross scarpered, to return on our terms in January.

2. Our contingency was Gomez as loan with option to buy. We were more keen on the loan with option in our favour, and not Barca. We would have to of made a commitment to buy either way. In the region of 40 plus million. Poch was asked, and was not keen. Daniel then walked away.

3. Llorente was the silent one, and so silent that our relationship with Swansea made sure it stayed that way. Chavs wanted to deal earlier in the window, but Swans wanted Bony, but couldn't deal until GS was sold. We were tipped off by their hierarchy that bid was accepted by Spanish club, and chavs. Poch made a personal call to him. Once that was done chavs stood no chance. This is all Poch.

4. VJ, Poch loves him as a person, and admires his attitude. Poch wants it to work for him, and told him he needs 3 specialist strikers, and with all the games he would get his games.

5. DS= Without our backroom staff this deal would not even of developed. We had been talking to Ajax, having a full dossier on him. Chavs were very keen, along with the two Spanish giants. Also Bayern were keen. He spent a lot of time talking to Poch, and eventually that swayed it. He was shown videos of our complex and stadium. Enough said.

6. SA=Another one down to our backroom staff. Daniel commissioned experts he trusts in France, along with very highly regarded legal counsel in the U.K., who were liaison with appropriate authorities to risk assess. Once they knew it was over, SA was so confident he declined Yanited and chavs especially. Poch played a blinder also.

7. Foyth=Came out of Poch's influence and connections. Daniel, you naughty boy what you did with PSG. Can we say they were never serious?

8. GK=Poch wants 3, and convinced he will prove a shrewd signing, and rates his staff to improve him beyond compare. He also showed well in Spain.

9. Wing forward, we had a few options, but reasons we pulled with Poch's blessings. Zaha is interesting, and may be revisited later. All down to Poch, and Zaha has 35m clause that becomes effective around April.

10. Jadon could be a Zaki Fryers in January or summer. Watch this space.

11. Dembele will be utilised in advanced roles, subject to matches. Due to our pacey defensive additions.

12. Lamela is not far off, and will be used in No. 10 role. Hope it works out for him, because if not Roma is calling.

13. Danny boy Rose is happy. No issues with him. Still think he may go amicably end of season. We promised him that. Key to that will be if he is upgraded in his contract, as all the ones we want will be. Don't worry about Toby. All good.

There you have it. No moaning please. Overall we done good business. COYS!!!

Thank you for a great summary, and fantastic insight this whole window!

Makes me happy to read about Vincent, really want him to succeed.

Great update, and I am sure all with great faith and probablty true, that doesn't mean that Im not struggling to get my head round the fact that we didn't actually want a pacey wide forward after all the planning and bids and ITK that we did want one.

Yeah, it's definitely a head scratcher. Maybe Poch is willing to wait for Zaha?

"but reasons we pulled with Poch blessings"

I'm not sure I understand that. We had options of wing forward and all the noise before hand is Poch wanted it and we were getting it.
But then we pulled with Poch blessings

I'm not sure it's a case of not wanting one, perhaps more none available that we liked. To me, that's a scouting issue, we should be identifying larger lists of suitable and available targets.
Anyhow, no point spending the cash just for the sake of it. Get the right player in, not just another body, that's what got us Sissoko.
Sounds as though Barkley and Sessegnon are on the shopping list, and already groundwork in.
If we do have an 'agreement' with Rose, it would make sense that Sessegnon gets another twelve months regular LB time at Fulham, so we can go back in when he has that extra experience under his belt.
Likewise, pulled the Gomes deal, confident that Barkley will be with us in January, save having Gomes clogging up a squad space.

Wow, I really couldn't imagine Palace would be crazy enough to put a 35 mil release clause into Zaha. In this day and eve that probably considered cheap (assuming he continues to impress)

Could well be this. It's clear to me that there's faith from both Levy and Poch in eachother - if the right combination of ability and value isn't there then they both seem happier to play it safe than gamble.

I hope when Poch does have his eye on someone (maybe Zaha) that Levy gambles with him and they both share a bit of the success or blame if it comes good/bad.

Was probably key to him signing a new deal. Wanted an option to get out somewhere in there should he need it, something i don't think we do as a club.

Sancho is a strange one, to give a 17yr old with not one professional appearance to his name a first XI shirt number? Very bold. I like the theory of us getting him in a Fryers'esque deal, but Dortmund don't strike me as a club to be doing that. If they've paid £8m plus a sell on clause to City, we'd have to spend a fair bit to make it worth their while.
Fair play to the lad though, I give huge credit to any player who tries their luck in a major foreign league, can only grow as a footballer and a person, right outside the comfort zone there. Kind of dispels the home sickness thing though.

Sounds as though Poch is happy enough with his lot, and in truth, sounds as though he personally played a huge part in convincing some of these players. Maybe Poch is the #gamechanger, getting some of these targets from under the noses of clubs that would historically have blown us away.

Agree, the Sancho deal, as much as I like the theory, doesn't make sense to me. No way do BVB give him the number 7 shirt then sell him to us right after.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

thanks @Hercules

(This is a Rhetorical Question) is if VJ is thought off so highly, how come he can't get on the pitch this season, especially when we are need of a goal, doesn't make sense at all.

The way I read it, was VJ is seen as a good egg, and MoPo wants him to succeed, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's good enough to make a difference right now.

Who though? Do we buy for the sake of buying? A player the manager wouldn't give the time of day, who is not as good as what we have?

Might aswell wait.
why do we have scouts then, dont ask me who as i am not paid to scout the world looking for that player
that is why we have scouts i guess, its hard that our scouts couldnt find one player in an attacking sense that would make a difference

Wow Herc, you have been awesome this window but this round up is something many of us crave and never get!

simply superb

personally like many have already mentioned I cant fault those that have been brought in, I was optimistically wishing for a few more and a 'game changer' would have been epic - a davids/VDV type signing but maybe Daniel is saving that for the new stadium!

the best info in Herc's roundup is the fact Toby should sign a contract extension

If we can do what we have been doing the last few years and offer all our top players improved terms for extensions to safeguard our excellent core and if Pouch is happy then I am happy.

I do have fears that PSG will come calling for Pouch (maybe for next season) and that he may not be able to turn them down, i hope that our project keeps him sufficiently motivated and engaged that this is not the case! I think silverware could be the key to this, we need to start accumulating some!

Should be a fun season ahead! COYS

Just speculating, somewhat hopefully, but maybe the player insisted on a release clause? I would.

If he had would Dortmund walk away at that point?

If the player likes it there - and he's playing games and getting in the England team - they can always offer him new terms and remove the clause.

If not, it's an easy profit for them. They know English teams will pay for £15m+ for him.

PS £10 donated. Thanks to all the mods and ITKs. COYS.

Thanks for the update.

Dubious about the Jadon info as Dortmund are a massive leap up in the food chain to liege and by all accounts the kid is hugely talented so I see no reason why they want to help us.

Appreciate the info as always but find that part hard to comprehend

Just momentarily look at how our rivals summer deals have shaped up. All clubs missed out on filling gaps in their squads.
  • Arsenal - added Lacazette - positive, but lost Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gibbs, and have both Sanchez and Ozil running down their contracts. Not a club in a good place. Wenger clearly wanted to add some craft to midfield, didn't get it. Defensively still very frail.
  • Chelsea - lost their club captain in Terry (much as we don't like him, he was a huge figure for them), plus in reality their top goal scorer in Costa. Have they added quality, in essence yes, but not World Class, and probably not as much as they'd like either. Missed out on Aurier, Barkley, Llorente, Oxlade-Chamberlain. Losing their aura to sign who they want.
  • Liverpool - added Salah and Oxlade-Chamberlain, kept Coutinho. Missed out on adding Van Dijk though, also rumoured interest in Lemar fell short, and then spent big on a player they can't have till next summer in Naby Keita.
  • Man City - stronger at fullback than previously, paid a lot of money for goalkeeper relatively untested, but didn't add that centre back they were so clearly after. Also failed to get Sanchez over the line after selling Iheanacho and Bony.
  • Man Utd - added well early on, but clearly they have been looking to strengthen their left hand side, Perisic, Rose and Bale all openly targeted. Bought Zlatan back, but he won't be fit for months yet.
Can we really say those clubs did amazingly better than us.

How are we as a team short of attacking options. Please explain? And yes. we made a profit whoop de woo. Lets spend it on a player who may or may not do a job for us. Just so we can say we have spent more than we have earned.
ok whoop de woo, who are our attacking options then
Man U have Mata, Rashford, Martial, Mika, Lingard and Pogba as AMs
Man City have Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva, Toure, Sane and Jesus
Liverpool have Couthinho, Lallana, Ox, Firmino, Mane and Salah

We have Eriksen, Dele, Son, then we have Lamela who is injured and Sissoko, Dele is suspended for the 1st 3 CL game
We lack pace certainly as another option, and if Dele or Eriksen get injured we are way short
When did i post lets spend it on someone who cant do a job to waste money, i am just amazed that our scouts couldnt find a player that would have made a difference
