To put it all into context...
In the grand scheme of things, all additions are upgrades. What's not to like.
In reality, if we play a starting lineup (when all fit) of
Lloris; Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen; Aurier, Wanyama, Dembele, Rose; Eriksen, Alli; Kane
We'll be looking at a bench something resembling
Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Dier, Lamela/Winks, Son, Llorente.
Now tell me that's not a bench of quality options.

Presuming we will start 343 as our 1st xi with Sanchez Aurier.I don't think many Spurs fans can argue it will be the best starting xi they've ever seen.Unless you're pushing 70.
Yes that pacey winger would have made it almost perfect, but as said Hopefully Lamela be back soon gives another option. We still really have no idea if Nkoudou potential or not.Could sissoko step up in a World Cup year who knows. And of course Marcus Edwards who scored s worldie free kick last night for England u20( in youth thread)
Our defence is now pretty much perfect. If you want to be very critical and I mean very CM could possibly be upgraded.Dembele is aging however still looks great and dier/wanyama do we want someone that offers a little more on the ball? And attacking wise Yes the elusive pacey winger ,but saying that when all fit attacking bench options now are Son Llorente janssen Lamela Nkoudou Edwards it's not bad.
So imo Jan/summer we won't lose anyone age wise so if no outgoings ,it's really just 2 players from being a very very solid squad.Tbh we've upgraded our 1st xi with Sanchez Aurier which I thought was tough to do

probably posted..
hertyid on barkley: My guy says "wants Spurs, coming in Jan"

Even if he has his heart set on joining us they can still mess us about in Jan by generating interest from others, accepting bigger bids etc. or just making him wait it out til the summer. If they had any sympathy for what he wanted (Not that they should) then we would have been able to find a way to come to a deal in the last week or so.

Sounds like we're definitely going back in for Barkley but it will be interesting to see if we go back in for Gomes or any of our other targets in January.

Two quality players (some one to unlock those doubled parked buses and some pace with talent) away from a raging bonner but the thought of Sissoko being our attacking midfield alternative has it crawling up inside itself.

Shame but let's see what Poch can do.

Karma is a bitch. Fuck the scum. Fort Poch @ Wembley Stadium is a go, and I know Aurier can be a difference maker. We did a great job staying within our budget and getting some young talent. Ticks many boxes; not all, but many.

Long live the BSoDL. Cabbages, jehovas, blue and yellows, lessons learnt, and moving goal posts. Exclusivity clauses till I die.

Mods, Herc, Trix, JJ, GF, Gards, Dov, and Rob + A&C: thank you as always. You've almost cost me my job again - all for a great reason.

See you in Jan...

Lastly, I think it's great that no one got Lemar. Let's get comfy over the next few matches, and hit that October to May form.

Things I learned this window...

Rose needs gagging and doesn't do Google

It's okay to say NO to Man City

Llorente still has nice hair

ITKs are considered on an par with Father Christmas and God

Some posters are prepared to insert random objects into themselves, ranging from brushes to empty wine bottles

82% is forever etched in our brains

Italy is nice

We all like ice cream

Jehova can be morphed into any player we fancy

Ignore the salt, ITK is gospel

Random players say hi

Are mums are not safe

So many more, but best of all...What a blast it is to be part of the best site out there giving a platform to chat about the club we all love.

Thanks to all of you concerned, been a real joy.

If it is to be 3-4-2-1 we're very light in the two behind the frontman.

Lamela is a great option for that area but when will we see him again? Same feeling regarding Barkley.

Realistically we probably won't have either until January, that's a long time to go having just Eriksen, Alli & Son really.

It would be fantastic if N'Koudou could add something, even Edwards. It's demoralising still seeing Sissoko coming off the bench.

Apart from that I think we're looking good in all other areas.

Well he already turned down Chelsea, Arsenal looks toxic, neither of the Manchester clubs need or want him and neither do Liverpool. So I think it's fair to say his options are limited.
No way he would join Liverpool as a boyhood Everton fan.

When you step back a bit what's astonishing is that for the 6th season in a row our net spend is virtually zero. To achieve that whilst making visible year on year progress is amazing.

One of the more interesting snipets of ITK in the last few weeks was a view that this is all due to an agreement DL has with the banks around our stadium funding. That snipet (from Hercules I think) suggested that arrangement ends this summer.

It will be fascinating to see if that brings a change of approach in the years to come. In the meantime you hope that it means money in the pot for improved contracts for key players. Harry, Dele, Erickson, Toby, Dier and dare I say Rose would be a good place to start.

As long as we get Barkley in Jan after he recovers, not fussed with breakdown in Gomes deal.
Pretty sure - we didn't move with Gomes, once Barkley rejected Chelsea.

Reflections:

1) We have added depth. We needed it. If we play our strongest available starting XI, our bench will come from: Vorm, Davies, Trippier, Sanchez, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, N'Koudou, Son, Janssen, Llorente PLUS kids like Edwards etc. That is competition for places.*

2) We have (again) added very promising young players who have the potential to be incredible in the future (Sanchez, Foyth) to add to the ones we are already nurturing.

3) We got Llorente and (judging from ITK) will sign Barkley in January- both from under Chelsea's nose. These players CHOSE Spurs over Chelsea (you know, the ones with tons of cash and that are current champions, them). Aurier was wanted by Chelsea and Manyoo and chose us. ITK suggested the idea of a #gamechanger - perhaps that change is that we are no longer the ones who will be Willianed in the future?

4) Do not underestimate the destabilising influence of key players wanting out at other clubs (Sanchez at Arsenal in particular) and business not having been done (Chelsea missing out on key targets). They have to reintegrate players and deal with the mood of the dressing room. Yes, we have to do this with Rose but I hope that has already been started at the training ground.

So, bad window? No. Perfect window. No. But I'm struggling to see a team (apart from PSG!) who have done better business than us when you look at the team/squad now in place. COYS.

*assuming Rose and Lamela come back and are at their best

Wasnt happy last night, but when you digest the size of the squad, at least we will have strong teams in the domestic cups now, as I can see few unhappy players come January that won't even make the bench. Just concerned that it doesn't hinder Edwards who has chosen to fight for his place rather than a loan move. At least we have good options on the bench and it should allow the core players to get rested as the season progresses.

How would the likes of Edwards get their chance if we had bought all these other players some seem to want ? We fans see a weakness in the team and immediately want to fill by buying someone. isn't that what Chelsea, Man City etc do ? We have to have vacant slots in the squad available for youngsters to come through or we might as well close the Academy.

Say what you will, Daniel is keeping his side of the bargain. We may not do the deals earlier in window. But we are doing the deals when window closes. Point is, with a 800m stadium being built, cash is king. It is hard to sustain club footballing side when such a expenditure is happening.

According to club documents available online for stadium, one of the bank guarantees & viability report to receive 500m loan is to keep our wage bill 50% to the revenue and club to show sustained growth. In past 5 yrs, DL has navigated us through difficult path in keeping us on growth track & working to build stadium.

You can see the same happening at Chelsea. Deals are becoming tougher to do. They are in netspend profit for 2 years. They are also trying to get the 500m. They have had the abysmal window by their earlier standards. When you compare us to Arsenal - when Arsenal built & moved, they sold all their invincible team & the team after & the team after in pretext of stadium.

Yesterday, they said they dont have money to spend.

Consider all this - DL has now got a superb team with great coach & an academy which is supporting team & also producing sales. Built for 45m from CL 2010 money, already sales of academy players & current team worth of academy players like Kane, Winks should be nearly 250m+

Next season when revenue increases & we move in, we will offer more wages & could still keep the 50% wage to revenue ratio.

Best time to be Spurs fans on & off the footballing field.
