Nothing creative about it, it was actually quite an obvious thing to say. You were using Lampard as an example of me being disingenuous in saying Pulisic was Abramovich’s latest shiny new thing, I pointed out that involving Lampard in that discussion was irrelevant because he signed for Chelsea long before Abramovich was around. Not sure how that’s creative. I think it’s just called ‘putting thought into my post and properly constructing my argument’.
It's meaningless to describe a very good player as "Abramovic's latest shiny thing". If we had signed him, would he be our latest shiny thing? Just a post-hoc rationalisation of the situation.

Except there is 15 years worth of evidence of Abramovich throwing money at signing with little logic or reason, whereas even when we get it wrong, we clearly currently operate a model of only signing if it will add obvious value. Pulisic would not have.

Also, it’s all well and good calling me disingenuous when you’ve totally ignore my point that Chelsea actually probably need him due to their AM situation, whereas we are particularly strong there by comparison,

My original point is that I see no signings in January that I am envious of, and unless someone has signed a top class CM, I stand by that.

There will be a screening of NFL Superbowl at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (High Road, Tottenham) on Sunday 3 February between 9pm and 4am where taxis may be required. There may also be more demand at Tottenham Hale Station.

Thanks for your info, as always, Trix it's much appreciated.

My interpretation of the situation with regard to the lack of signings, which could easily be wrong, is this. We have finished in the top 3 in each of the last 3 seasons so we are competitive … up to a point. In order to make that last step up we need 1 or 2 really top quality signings. As @Hercules said "But new stadium releases more immediate funds to add to the kitty. And with sponsorship being activated, will trigger those funds."

There is no point signing a player now for 10s of millions who is only marginally better than we already have. With the quality we currently have and with some good young players coming through from our youth system, it makes sense to wait just a few months more until the stadium opens so that those extra funds will be available to get the best players we can for the positions Poch has identified.

That would tally with the situation the clubs has been in for the last two TWs. I can't believe that Levy wouldn't want to make a real statement in terms of publicity, and 1 or 2 landmark signings to announce with the opening of the stadium would do that. I anticipate 1 or 2 top signings to coincide with the stadium opening.
It’s not about one or two signings to take us to the next level. We need more depth in CM and to have promising youngsters in place to replace Toby, Eriksen, Dembele. Jan isn’t getting any younger, RB is an issue. Squad building happens over time. We can’t just replace our good CB and CM in one window.

I'm still confused why a mid-table team such as Leicester have quite a few players that would get into our squad (McGuire, Chilwell,Tielemans, Maddison) yet it has been suggested that we're not an attractive enough club for players to go to and players have turned us down. Does that say something about our recruitment dept?

It could say something about our recruitment department. However, it could also say something about the possibility that the players you listed simply think they've got more chance of playing/starting for Leicester, than they would for a team doing all it can to keep pace with those at the very top of the PL.

Onions.

Toby and Eriksen are still with the club and don't need replacing. When they leave then yes, they will need replacing. In the meantime our youth system is producing come very promising youngsters, and by all accounts Poch didn't want anyone brought in during this TW. Bringing in 1 or 2 top players would strengthen the squad, especially if the ones to leave were the fringe players rather than our best players.

Because they'd get in our squad but they get in Leicester's starting XI every week. We also don't pay the wages our rivals do to persuade players to sit on their bench week after week.
