But you start paying a new player more than some current players and very quickly you have a wage bill spiralling out of control, that's why the money bag clubs can do the deals they want. FFP was meant to stop that, but like most UEFA ideas, its was pretty much a non starter.

I agree re our current players wanting and getting new deals but when players get bigger than their boots and start causing trouble, you show them the door (eg Bentaleb). We can't go into every window knowing that we need X amount of new players but refuse to sign quality on the basis that it will upset the existing players. No risk no gain.

Ahhhh net spend.

If only there were a thread with those very words in the title sitting in Spurs Chat. We could really go to town on it.

That's the very real danger IMO. A massive two days coming up, I think Levy might have played the game his way once too often. Not everyone will put up with it and Poch was very clear about wanting his players in early. So unless things go our way over the next 48 or whatever hours I honestly think we could be looking for a new manager next season, if not sooner.

Levy needs someone to tell him to fuck of nicely. If it takes Poch leaving for him to get his finger out of his pisshole then so be it, I guess.

Morning gents. So net spend and people who could make two flies running up and adown a window seem exciting (Jim White I'm looking at you) are the new ITK. Fuck-a-duck. Only joking!

I'm hoping for an Iggy or some ground breaking news before midday, I've had three instant coffees since 9am and I'm flying!
I'm on my third Nespresso. Going to be a shaky day

Thats a very optimistic view of FFP.

It was never meant to stop that it was just to all in expenditure with income. So the 'bigger' clubs actually get a lot more clout than they did before. It essentially means we cannot physically match Man Utd wages in the hope that it would take us to the same level as them and get in return higher income, because we would fail FFP in doing so.

It was necessary, to stop cases like Portsmouth or Leeds, but it was never meant to even out competition, that would frankly go against the very interests of UEFA (i.e. they want the marketable teams to do well).

Was there an answer to the cyptic yesterday? Was it the positive answer or the negative?

I'm going to get a fig roll.

So with Marseille takeover done really don't see anything holding up GKN announcement as it's clearly done.

My thought process on it is if it's not announced today itll confirm the fears that we are saving it for tomorrow to ensure a 'deadline day' transfer.

How reputable is Gards? He gets posted around some times (his name has crept up today) and I remember he was once very well considered on the forum, but not sure if he was one of those ones who did a Dan Ashcroft.

See my post above, lets see what happens in the next 2 days ;). Poch has stated many times he prefers working with a smaller squad, how many times have people moaned on here about the form of players who only get a few minutes/games, but they still expect them to hit the ground running?

Poch has said 3 times in the last 2 weeks he needs 'players' for the positions behind the strikers. So more than 1 and obviously not happy with his numbers or options.

I don't understand what is going on? We already need to get players in even if Son stays.

Why the fuck do we always press the self destruct button? As someone alluded to earlier, it's about time we started acting like a big club and realise you need quality players on the bench.

The problem seems to have been some of the players not wanting to leave and only now realising they probably need to - this has pushed everything back (at no fault of the club) - as others have said you can't force people to leave the club.

Yeah that could very well be the case, it certainly seems to be otherwise players like Mason would have left ages ago.

It will be GKN and Lopez, no more. I just don't get why we're apparently hopeful of securing 3 almost impossible signings in Isco, Zaha and Coric. We've signed two players of whom we had a good chance in getting but have reverted back to the same old end of window tactics and decided to chase players we have little to no hope of getting... leaving us short of numbers for the zillionth time in a row.

Yeah, it's what I've thought all window to be honest. I just didn't think we'd get rid of Chadli and maybe Son and Clinton too. Unfortunately, it seems like it may be a case of leaving ourselves incredibly short like we did with only having one striker. If we repeat that mistake but this time in the wide areas it will be shocking.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand there's potential in them but I don't even rate Chadli, Son or Clinton greatly highly but I'd much rather stick and work with them than make a good profit on them and get fuck all in return.
