Are we only going after Marin or Hazard if modric goes?

I think that was what Brownhead was suggesting, still I can't see Modric going this window after what Levy said.

Why would we have contingency plans to replace Modric if we are adamant he won't be sold. It doesnt make sense surely, seems dubious to me

The sooner everybody accepted the fact that Modric is going the better. Anybody thinking otherwise has blinkers on. He wants to go, any bid around £50 million will get him.

This is why we are frantically looking around at options to replace him.

money talks and Modric will have his price....50 million and Modric stating he has no wish to stay will make the decision easy.

Where has all this Modric exit talk come from again? I've seen pretty much nothing in the papers since we issued the statement and Harry said in his interview tonight that he wouldn't be sold?

We probably do have contingency plans, but I imagine we have that with the whole of our squad (except for Jenas).

we are? something u know that we don't ? if we are looking around as u say then maybe starting by looking at central midfield players will help not wingers like hazard or marin.

if we sell modric we should simply pack it all in. pure selling club . end of. and secondly with whats happening with tevez and city now and all top players wanting to leave arsenal, we wud want to be fucking nuts to let luka leave. crap talk mate and only stirs the shit talk more. give it a rest i say.

im far from a fan of levy by way and im deeply deeply cynical of him and those in charge for whats it worth. he should be hung by the balls outside on high road if he allows modric to leave . even at 60 million this summer no bid should be entertained

Bold statement

Personally if Mod does want to leave £50m is the right money for Levy to save face.

But as far as i know Mod hasn't actually said he wants out, his agent has made a few noises but thats what agents do.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

FUCK NO

Tell it how you see it:grin:

Better side or not we still fail to pull the sort of player that have been suggested over the last god know how many windows.

Window after window goes by and we hear all the ITK about this super star and that world class player, but none seem to sign.

My point about Klinnsman was he was probably the last World Class player we signed in his prime (First time round)

Historically we may be a big club with a wonderful history but today we simply won't pay the wages to pull off one of these wonder signings.

I understood exactly what you meant about Klinsmann. You clearly haven't understood my point: I am saying there is a flaw in you logic. If you say we are not a good enough team to attract big names and then use the big name we attracted, you need to be aware that we attracted him when our team and squad wasn't as good as it is now. Therefore, by your logic, we should be more, not less able to attract big players now.
As I said in another post in this thread today, I really don't give a fluying monkey's left testicle whether we sign big names or not - I am only interested in signing players that are effective and improve us. The only reason I would specifically want us to sign a big name would be to give Modric a sign of our ambition. But, if he stays and the strikers we bring in aren't big names but are bluddy effective I would hope that as we qualified for CL and lifted a trophy or two next year that would be enough to convince Modric to stay.

Think you are also being selective. Gallas wanted a two year contract from Arsenal but they have a policy of offering a one year contract extension for players older than 30. Spurs were willing to offer him a two year contract and hence he came.

As for Van der Vaart, we snapped him up literally during the last hour of the transfer window. With the window closing, if he really wanted to leave Madrid, where he really didnt have a future, we were really his only option. Think he said he only had about an hour to make up his mind whether to join us or stay at Madrid. It wasnt as if he had two or three clubs to choose from with the transfer window about to shut.

As for transfer tug of war between Man U and Tottenham, Man U will win all not just the majority. Even Tottenham's better players the past few years like Carrick and Berbatov when United come calling leave for United.

No. I'm not being selective. I'm really not. I didn't make any specific point to be selective about. I merely pointed out that your point is weakened when we consider further transfer activity from last Summer. I never mentioned the specific considitons uder which Gallas came, just that he chose to, so:
Cole decides Liverpool's offer is better and goes there.
Gallas decides our offer is better and joins Spurs.

How can you use one to show that our ability to attract players is weak and ignore the other.
As seen as I am not saying that our ability to attract players is 100% all of the time it does not harm to my argument to include Cole in the debate.

Hey, you wanna believe that in all circumstances United will 100% of the tme win every transfer battle with THFC that is fine, I disagree. Don't assert your opinion as fact. Now, I know the story is that Red Nosse didn't make a concrete offer for Bale, but Bale has said he knew United were interested and yet, instead of holding out for them he joined us. The same with berbaGit (even though he started agitating for a move there almost immediately). So, under certain circumstances some players will choose to join us, even when united are known to be interested. The deciding factor may be that the player is young and may be more likely to get first team action at the Lane. But that is totally irrelevant. it may be a monority, but some players would choose to join us ahead of United. Don't really care if you don't accept that:hello:

mate he is for sale if someone offers ridiculous money and he insists on the move.

Yes we have the power, but if he really wants to go and somebody offers the sort of money we would deem fair, which would probably be in excess of 50 million, I think it will be inevitable.

We'll have a good idea come the end of the week I reckon, if anything comes out from his end.

I'm not sure Chelsea will offer that sort of money, so I have a certain amount of faith from that perspective. Also he'll still command a big fee next summer if it happens but the problem is would we keep an unhappy player if a huge offer is on the table now while his stock is high?

Hypothetical but it could become a reality.

I don't think I have blinkers on. I do think that Daniel Levy's position will be virtually untenable if he sells Modric, and therefore I don't think he will sell him. I could imagine him making a deal with Modric to stay for another year, or to stay and see how it works out, or even to stay until Christmas - just so he can point to his statement and the fact that it is no longer Summer, adn state without blushing that he stuck by his word. But I do believe he will stick by that, as he has backed himself into a corner. I think that makes me a realist, actually.
I think anyone who just ignores this and points to the sole evidence of precedence with Carrick and BarbaGit, ignore the totally different situation and the better quality of players we now have, is, in fact, blinkered.

If you know that Levy/Redknapp have been desperately running around in search of a replacement you should provide evidence of your source to the Mods and then post it as ITK.

If only our Harry was as convincing as you eh?

My take on Modric leaving is this, irrespective of how much Chelsea bid, and how much Modric wants to leave, he is tied down by a long term contract. He will be worth the same amount next summer so why sell him this year?

far from buried in sand. if we are a properly run club we wud have players lined up and in contention long before modric came out with what he said. this is not about accepting bid. this is about what it says about spurs and where our future will be without player like modric. im not sure u know how much modric means to team. he is vital. playmaker and such a influence. harry even said it so if he goes one can kiss goodbye to any cl footy . with him in side and couple of top strikers we can win league. thats difference- players who can make difference. anyone can go out and but a player but we are at stage now where we need players in to make a differnce. not many out there like that but we have at least 2 in modric and bale and what does our fans want to do.. be happy when rival club up road wants to spend 50 mill on best player and accept it? again i have no trust in levy and maybe ur right he will be sold but of he does its a total fukin joke. even at 50 million who can u get to replace him..
