Today's performance shows that we are lacking severely in squad depth in terms of quality. We don't have players who can charge forward with strength and purpose and really make things happen. We lack leaders and players who defend with authority.Too many of our players are ineffective and tentative in their approach.
I am encouraged by today's ITK but doubt that anything will happen. Our transfer strategy- rather like the team- is lacking in purpose and direction. It seems to be opportunistic and focused on player value rather than what we need to improve. We need to take a hit on a few players to shift them off the wage bill to enable us to move forward. Our zero net spend policy is damaging and short sighted. I hope we see some movement but suspect that the club will drag its feet as ever on making key signings and we will be the weaker for this in the long term.

Get this man a drink. Well said sir!

I'd rather release 5/6 of our squad that Poch doesn't want then continue to hold onto them and pay their wages. We are cluttered with unwanted players.

The only problem is that by releasing them we'd be paying them the remainder of their contracts in full. Can't just ditch them for free.

Yep. Kaboul, Capoue, Paulinho, Lennon, Soldado and Ade all need to be gone by next season. Maybe Vlad as well.

According to transfermarkt Ade's contract expires this year. Has something come up that it actually runs longer? Otherwise he'll definitely be gone before preseason starts.

Whilst I don't particularly feel Paulinho, Lennon, Chiriches etc are of the adequate quality for spurs, I'd rather them until the end of the season than leaving ourselves short and collapsing again. With a couple of additions, and the selling of the really bit part players like Naughton we can realistically still compete.
Sell them in the summer.

Suggesting we play some obscure 17 year old instead of a consistent international player is great if it's march and we are 10th, out of all the cups and drifting along waiting until June. We aren't right now. Top 4 is well up for grabs, as are 2 cups.

We aren't gonna get top 4. No chance. And in all honesty we don't look or deserve a top 4 spot.

Not with what we currently have, no. But I do think we have just as good a shot as any with two crucial additions this window, and both of which I believe could be had for very cheap.

Agree but who does? Liverpool? Man Utd? All as bad as each other. You're right we're not good enough but it's still wide open for any of the normal top 8 to grab 4th.

Talk about going round in fucking circles...
Talking of which..,. Scott Parker.

And Tom Huddlestone.

They were in the same boat Paulinho, Chiriches et al are in now a couple of years back and as the season wore on we needed them & they had big roles. So, for everyone saying, 'flog the lot' we need to be realistic: the summer is the time for rebuilding, right now anyone coming in won't understand the system , so by and large, what we've got will probably have to do.

I've stopped dreaming of getting even 1 in, not to say 2.

Of course you're most likely right, but the point remains that I believe we could have a genuine shot at top four if we get even those two bargain buys in.

Some promising news in the Ings thread. The ITK says we want him, hopefully it will come true.

Arsenal and Liverpool are slowly getting their shit together. And however under performing Man U are they will prob finish above us. Sadly! I'd love us to get 2 of these players but the reality is every club is probably saying the same. And truth being we need more than 2 players. Much more! Far too reliant on 3 players. Kane, erikson and Hugo. God knows where we'd be if any of them injured.

Neither have Arsenal for about 10 years now, but they still do it every season.

Getting top 4 is as much about luck as it is merit.

edit: Lol I appear to have unearthed some gooners

January is the time to sell players though. It's a seller's market where desperate teams pay well over the odds for mediocre players. We could do a lot of good selling this coming week - create space and funds to set us for the summer.

Wouldn't be much different than some of our existing players, then!

I wonder after this 'mad week' whether Spurs will, once more, have made money in the player sales window - as happened in the summer. Second only to Southampton then I'm expecting Levy to go all out to be first in the player sales league table. It's going to be tough to beat Swansea but he's already lessened their net gain on player sales by getting rid of Naughton to them. Next up should be Carroll to Swansea. Atta boy Dan. That's the way! After that who knows? Lennon, Pauli, etc could be gone. Yum. Money.

Come on Levy FC (you can decide what FC means) - do your stuff!

Who needs to win games when we have 'Levy Time'?

We'll have a profit of 5m after this window. Which is just the Naughton sale. Nothing else is happening. No chance anyone else leaves or anyone comes in. Might as well forget about top 4. Best chance for CL football is winning the Europa and we have no chance at that either. Wedont have the depth at all. After our first XI, we are :poop:
