We certainly need Isco level players in.
Its been the same story since 2010 though. I know we are building a stadium but we are out spent by over half of the PL now...no way can we keep up without quality investment.

Ben's info seems sensible....the other ITK more exciting but that's what keeps us going.
Out spent by half?? You're having a laugh, just look at the spend table for the last 5 years, we're outspent by all the other PL teams. We are the 6th richest club in the PL, and according to the last figures I saw, we are the 12th richest club in the World. it makes me laugh the number of people on here that say we can't afford a 20/25 mill transfer fee. Of course we could afford it. Building a stadium is not an excuse, this season there is incoming CL money plus a big increase in TV money. Those sums were not budgeted for when the stadium build was costed, they are extra. At least some of that extra money could be spent on a couple of quality first team players in order to compete in 4 competitions.

Hope I'm not veering off track A&C, but I see young Burke from Forest has gone to Leipzig in Germany (there was ITK a few days ago on this).

I sincerely hope the whole Information Lockdown we've heard about is true, and we have signings lined up that we are waiting to sanction which ITK and media outlets haven't been able to catch a sniff of.

More realistically, and despite usually being very positive since Poch's regime, I feel very disheartened at present with the transfer policy that is seeing us starve our squad of depth. We will struggle big time. Unless my first paragraph turns out to be reality instead.

Exactly right, pisses me off no end the fact that we spend no money while others improve their squads and first team while we stagnate. We are desperate for the holy grail of champions league and then we get it but once again don't kick on and improve!!

Yeah hearing the same joke over and over rapped up in a victim routine is a side splitter.

I've been working on some stuff about how Levy will go to buy milk, but wont pay what the milk cost. You know, because levy doesn't like to pay money for things. And he'll make the milk pay for its own taxi back to his house.

It's not finished yet, put you'll be in for a hoot, since it's not been done to death for the last six years.

  • Outspent on incomings? or are we back to net spend? Only four clubs have spent more on incomings in the last 5 years and guess what Arsenal are not one of them This is the wrong place for this but this net spend crap is really getting on my nerves now. In the last 5 seasons we have spent more than 75% of the Premier league FACT, so not outspent by all of them by any stretch of the imagination. Fact is all this net spend criticism imo is based on the fact we have sold Bale and are really really good at selling our unwanted players for an extortionate amount of money. Not something imo that warrants criticism at all.

Well if the extent of your ambition is to just finish above most of them....fine....some of us would like to finish above all of them occasionally.

I think the point he is making is spending more does not translate directly to finishing top or challenging for honors.

That is true insofar as transfer fees go.

However, according to a book on football statistics I read not too long ago, the overwhelmingly largest factor in the final Prem league positions, since the Prem was formed, is wage spend. And it makes intuitive sense too. You pay more, you get better employees.

I would go and get it off my bookshelf and quote the relevant part, but I'm still in bed :)

Ok me. But that is also a good point isn't it? Lol

We should just start giving unwanted players away for free.

More net spend = ambition and happy fans.
I don't understand this notion that net spend isn't important. Of course it is.

Noone sensible would argue that we should spend money for the sake or it. Nor that higher fees guarantees success. Nor that we shouldn't run the club in a financially prudent manner.

But being able to sell our players for high sums isn't mutually exclusive with investing a bit more heavily in the team. One could easily argue, in fact, that our selling ability should actually enable a greater investment.

Noone is expecting us to be City, United or Chelsea. But there is something in between doing what those clubs do, and having an essentially zero net spend. Progression isn't linear. A lot of fans want to see a bit more ambition in capitalising on our recent success and CL qualification.

And I say this as a fan of Levy and way the club is generally run.
