Gkn +possible 1 is looking like we are going in to our busiest season lacking quantity and extra quality

I think zaha is exactly what we need, I know that is not a popular opinion but we need a direct, pacey forward with tricks. He is young so has potential to improve.

  • Outspent on incomings? or are we back to net spend? Only four clubs have spent more on incomings in the last 5 years and guess what Arsenal are not one of them This is the wrong place for this but this net spend crap is really getting on my nerves now. In the last 5 seasons we have spent more than 75% of the Premier league FACT, so not outspent by all of them by any stretch of the imagination. Fact is all this net spend criticism imo is based on the fact we have sold Bale and are really really good at selling our unwanted players for an extortionate amount of money. Not something imo that warrants criticism at all.

Can we sticky this post for the next window... Hit the nail on the head

Exactly right, pisses me off no end the fact that we spend no money while others improve their squads and first team while we stagnate. We are desperate for the holy grail of champions league and then we get it but once again don't kick on and improve!!
How can you tell which squads have improved after just three games?

I don't understand this notion that net spend isn't important. Of course it is.

Noone sensible would argue that we should spend money for the sake or it. Nor that higher fees guarantees success. Nor that we shouldn't run the club in a financially prudent manner.

But being able to sell our players for high sums isn't mutually exclusive with investing a bit more heavily in the team. One could easily argue, in fact, that our selling ability should actually enable a greater investment.

Noone is expecting us to be City, United or Chelsea. But there is something in between doing what those clubs do, and having an essentially zero net spend. Progression isn't linear. A lot of fans want to see a bit more ambition in capitalising on our recent success and CL qualification.

And I say this as a fan of Levy and way the club is generally run.

I agree, but unlike most other clubs that operate on usual business principles, we've been spending quite a lot on infrastructure. Our "net spend" have been going into that.

It could probably be done differently, but I can see the sense in doing what we are doing.

Why do we need a goalkeeper?

What happens if we lose one of Hugo or Vorm? We wouldn't want to find ourselves in a situation like City where you have a group of keepers who can't play to the managers style. Get one in now and they can have a whole season of training to adapt.

I agree that we could use a pacey forward with tricks.

While Zaha is quick and tricky he has never shown an ability to finish, has never shown that he was particularly good at picking a pass and isn't great at crossing.

Maybe i am wrong and working with Poch would allow Zaha to finally show he has more in his game.

But for the prices being tossed around you would hope we could get a forward with more going for them than "he's fast".

I don't care about netspends, as long as we improve.

First time in a long time, we have stable management, stable academy, board working on Stadium infrastructure and a team which can defend and first XI which can be picked by 90% of the fans week in week out.

We have already addressed 2 key areas from last season in playing squad.

Hopefully Nkoudou is done & we give him the respect he deserves for waiting this long. We need one more quality attacker. I am sure Poch is aware of it & is already talking on similar lines in press conference.

So, lets be patient for few more days. Lets see how this plays out.

All of this makes perfect sense. What doesn't and frustrates the hell out of all of us is not getting the glaringly obvious missing quality that we need to take us to the next level. And do it early. Levy procrastinates and we get guzzumped every time. If we had had an Isco or a Payet last year we would have been the league Champs. Levy has failed too many times to do what was needed on this front and as such he will be known as the nearly man. We just want Levy to surprise us once.

We are told we cannot do anything until players have gone. Well many have and more are on the way. The bench on Saturday was very weak compared to Liverpools. So no more excuses levy. Make us happy before Wednesday.

Nice link, Hot Spur. It shows that Spurs have been making money on transfers unlike most other Premier League clubs that have in effect invested more in players than we have. It's such a shame that the Club has failed to invest just a little more money to make this Club more competitive. Especially as we're in the Champions League this year. Do we want to stay in the top four or not? I'm sure we all want to - but if the Club is left behind by its competitors in bringing in quality players then it's highly unlikely that we will maintain a spot in the top four. And then what? No Champions League may mean some of the star players demanding a move. And then the Club would agree the move - and make big money on the transfer. And then the Club could say that it's the greatest at making money on transfers.

Frankly I'm more interested in seeing the Club compete effectively on the field of play.

To do that the Club needs to invest in players. Quality players.

ITK said that we were seriously in for Batshuayi. We failed. Why? Was it because Levy was dicking around and penny pinching? I don't know. But I can guess. ITK is saying that we are in for Isco. Great. He's the kind of player we need. If we're serious about getting him then make a serious bid. You can't always get a bargain - although I suppose some think they can.

If we fail at this point to bring in quality then I think we should prepare ourselves for a less-than-ideal season with the possibility that at the end of it we may lose both star players and the present coach.
