Unless we don't plan on using pacy wingers anymore... They're not a necessity in a 4-3-3.

I think pace is definitely a necessity in this league, regardless of formation. We'll know what AVB's opinion is when we see who is bought and sold by 2nd September I suppose.

Well if we're selling, or even loaning Townsend, then they must SURELY be looking to bring in a proven winger with pace now. Otherwise there's no advantage in letting him leave.

But if we do switch to 433, we won't be using/needing 'wingers'. Why do you think so many people struggle to see how Lennon will get game-time if we switch to 433? Townsend, like Lennon, is just a winger & is extremely limited due to that. He also likes to run into dead-ends & often doesn't bother to look up to see who's available for a pass or a cross etc..

If we are switching to 433, Sigurdsson is a much better option as one of the wide 2, as is Dempsey & Adebayor (if we get Benteke/a striker).. Townsend is just another player we could get cash for & free up space for the likes of Falque & Ceballos etc..

Again I'm just saying my opinion here.

All of those are up but the prices wanted are hilarious! Also lots of interest in Townsend and he may go.

I can understand us trying to get as much as we can from our sales. However, if the asking price is too much to attract a purchaser we just get lumbered with the player(s) until their contracts run out e.g. Bentley and probably Gomes and then get nothing. This I do not understand!

This is basically the concise and to the point type post that I was trying make.

Please ignore my post and refer to this one instead.

I wonder if the report about bidding £20m Soldado was a rumour leaked to scare Villa a little bit. They know they have a player who wants out and they're under pressure to let him go.

I would really love if we could get him in time for the trip to Asia. Anyone know when we travel?

I think there's probably a difference in the asking price and the price that we'd sell at. I very much doubt that any club looking to buy a player just offers what is first put in front of them. There's always negotiations, so you may as well start high!

Think someone said yesterday that we travel out either tomorrow or Sunday

While pace may not be the no 1 priority in a 4-3-3, I'd argue that you can't have enough pace, especially in the PL. Having a player like Townsend will give us alternatives. He offers something different compared to Siggy and Dempsey for the wing spot. Pace will also be very handy against a high possession team like Arsenal where we'd probably try to catch them on counters. I hope and think that Townsend will play a part this season.

I don't get this logic, and it's not aimed at you 1 in a, you are not the first to say it. But Villa don;t want to sell, the same as us with Modric before, we didn't want to sell, dug our heels in and we got one more season out of him.

If I was Randy Lerner, Paul Lambert, seeing that we are looking elsewhere, I would be very happy as it shows that we have moved on and they get to keep their man.
