Wanyama is a lot better than any of the options currently on the squad to fill the role of DM rotation. Before Wanyama, we had nobody who could adequately fill that role.

I do tend to agree with Wijnaldum, but given that I have no access to training, I will give Poch the benefit of the doubt here, if we sign another player.
Lesniak, mate. Filip Lesniak.

If we brought in Wanyama, that tells me Poch does not think Lesniak is ready. Its just that simple for me.

I don't care how many youth watchers swear a player is ready, and should be given games, I trust this coaching staff to make a better determination after actually watching the players train. If the coaches thought that Lesniak was an adequate replacement, they will give him an opportunity.

Janssen and Wanyama in would be a cracking start to the window. After that I wouldn't mind us trying to work on some secret squirrel deals and also waiting around for some opportunistic deals once the big boys get the market moving. There could be some rather useful players that become surplus once their clubs move on to shiny new toys.

Maybe, but when was the last time we picked up a bench warmer from a sky5 team?

Unless theyre very young and unproven, which i dont think youre getting at, most of them will be on silly wages and with fees spiralling this summer too i think youre barking up the wrong tree.

Haha I completely agree. I don't actually think Lesniak is at all a viable option for this season, I was just re-hashing a joke from a couple of weeks ago.

If we are in the market for another am we should sell first to help fund it, when we have so many players for the three positions drawing a good wage who just wont be playing often enough to justify it. Im pretty sure levy sees it this way, too.

Eriksen, Lamela and Alli are in the box seat.

Son, Njie and Onomah signed or blooded under Poch.

Chadli playing less,, Pritchard sent to wba. Its esy to see whos standing closest to the trap door.

Come on man, I think I get way more shit on here for suggesting how unrealistic it is that we think we can walz in and sign a player to improve our first team than for suggesting we can. There's a whole movement on here who's raison d'être it is to belittle those of us that continually point out how unrealistic it is that we think we can compete with the uber clubs or even start chucking silly money on big gambles.

My view is, I'd rather not spend money than spend quite a lot of money on players who for the odd game we already have pretty decent cover. I'm not talking Janssen here, I think 20m Eu for a player of his ilk (age, potential) in a squad that doesn't have clear categorical alternative for a pivotal role is decent business. I'm talking the likes of Wanyama & Wijnaldum. Even if we got the latter for 20m, that would be 31m plus what 6-7m py wages? For two players who are not better than what we have already and we have back ups here already for nothing who for 8-10 games a year could fill that remit whilst developing into something even better hopefully?

I'd rather have gone and spent that money on one player, and I won't start wish listing, but I think there are a smattering out there, who could have genuinely improved our first team group, or brought something different to the group that would have moved us forward and given us a different dimension of quality.
You don't get most of your grief for trying to be realistic about our targets, some of it is when you suggest that we already have players of the required level in the youth setup. Your loyalty is admirable, but somewhat delusional.

Take the whole Wanyama v Lesniak thing. To suggest that an untried youth player would provide the same level of performance as an international captain with Premier League and Champions League experience is at best naive, and at worst downright irresponsible. But I have no wish to labour the point or reignite the "discussion".

You also get grief for being stubborn and digging your heels in, even though the flaws in your arguments have been highlighted.

Oh, and also for your long winded responses.

So don't sell yourself short in terms of the reasons you get stick on here...

Every team must improve each year. We can't stand still. The competition this season is going to be unreal.

You have to remember just how young our side is. It will improve with coaching and experience, regardless of signings.

Great news that Janssen seems to be done (again!).

Just saying, but on this day last year we announced: Toby, new stadium and the NFL deal...come on now Daniel.

Probably has something to do with ITK's saying recently that a player must have the right attitude and be a 'nice guy' before we consider buying them

I would bloody hope that kind of stuff would have been found out already. Is that not what the scouting setup is for?
