I think he is talking about Ade. Surely would be a surprise choice as skipper?

The conversation was about fantasy premier league, at least that was the impression I got. Doubt Ade will captain the team in his first match. I also have him as captain in my fantasy PL team now. :)

Am I the only one who is intrigued by how these negotiations go down in the football world?

If you put it into an everyday business deal analogy; the length they take it simply ridiculous.

Here's how it should go:
*Levy picks up phone after googling the number for Internacional's HQ* - *After 5 minutes on hold to some saucy samba music he's put through*
(For the sake of this theoretically situation they both speak impeccable English)
Inter chairman: alright dan, ain't heard from you much since Sandro deal... You promised you would keep in touch. I added you on Facebook but you never accepted me?
DL: alright Lucas, sorry mate.. I err have a virus. Anyway this LD kid. I've been ringing you up about him for years - how much?
Lucas (as we now know him as): alright, but I've been waiting for you to respond on drawsomething for 6 months now - I feel you're ignoring me... And I dunno (dragging his heels) offer m- actually I won't play that dangerous
game with you - 30 million euros.
DL: now I know normally you give me a figure then I spend weeks mulling it over with a financial team. This time I know what I have to spend. I'll give you 25 million euros.
Lucas: mmm well he well eventually leave and we have such a good affiliation (according to the papers) alright.
DL: thanks. And can you tell LD to sack that useless wanker of an agent so it doesn't corrupt all our hard work.
Lucas: alright, sure. Cya Dan.

Simple?

Getting Isco would also allow us to spend more of the Modric funds on other players to instead of just shipping it all to Porto.
Would take that myself, allthough a little risky!

Just to put this in perspective;

Lennon has 21 goals and 42 assists in 196 league games for us in the PREMIER LEAGUE.
Willian has 19 goals and 40 assists in 129 league games IN UKRAINE.

Good player no doubt, but still.

I presume you support Lennon over Willian, your words suggest it. Your stats however don't. Willian acheived mote or less the same as Lennon in 67 LESS games.

I don't understand....,

Except it clearly doesn't work like that for a reason. If DL comes straight out and says, ok, 25m Euros, then whoever we are negotiating with assumes that we are willing to go to 27, 28, maybe 30 million before we really back out. No reason for them to take a lower price. And even if we come straight out and match the 30m valuation, they are going to start wondering how they can push us higher.

It's not like buying a pint at the pub for a fixed price. It's a glorified haggling process in a hugely competitive market. The alternative to playing along is overpaying millions of pounds in every transaction, only buying players you think are grossly undervalued by their clubs, or only signing free transfers. Does it have to take until deadline day every time? No, it doesn't. But it does improve our bargaining position, and if it makes us 5-10m quid per season it might well be worth it.

The emphasis on the leagues they were in by the original post was suggesting that although the statistics may not be directly comparable the huge difference in prestige of the two leagues slightly levels them out. The implication i picked up was that willian isn't that prolific in a much lesser league...

There is a distinct difference in the quality of the two leagues though. I'd expect a player valuated at around £20 million to knock them in on a regular basis in a low quality league like the Ukranian one. I don't really support Lennon any more than any other Spurs player, but I disagree with the opinion that Willian is a huge improvement on him.

If AVB thinks Willian will improve us then I'm all for getting him, but I don't think the "quoted 20 million" pricetagis even close to being right. That said we had this discussion in the last ITK thread and got nowhere, so I won't keep banging on about it.

He means to imply that having those stats in the Ukranian League is far easier to do than in the Prem, failing to understand that if Lennon were supported only by Shakhtar players every time he played he could very well have worse numbers, and vice versa. Comparing stats across leagues is silly as players have widely varying levels of support from their teams and it is up to us to put any new signings in a position to be successful.
