Some bloke on Glory Glory who claims to be ITK suggests that we won't be signing Paulino within a week.

Given that he's playing in Brasil, I think we're all ITK enough to know he won't be signing within a week either.

Ergo

Bugger all since you were last here.

We really couldn't sign him unless we did what we apparently were doing with Damiao and have a doctor in Brazil for him to take a medical. But that was done to save time. We've got plenty of it as of right now.

Saved loads of time on that one.

Not much at all then.
Klinsmann was 29 that's two years younger and Villa has never been anywhere near as good as Klinsmann.

Not so sure about that one. I'd say its much of a muchness - both of them are around about the top five best strikers of their generation, both won World Cups, league titles etc etc. Klinsmann plied his trade and proved himself in more different leagues than Villa, however, Villa has ten seasons of scoring 20+ goals to two seasons for Klinsmann. Both were/are predatory strikers with instinctive movement and superb finishing. Villa at Valencia was every bit as good as Klinsmann in his prime, and he only really diminished at Barcelona because there's only so much of the ball you can get, and opportunities to do things with it, when you have people like Messi/Iniesta et al in the team.

I think its fair to say that you could make an argument for one over the other, but its a close one.

Lol at people saying Villa is injury prone - the guy broke his leg that is hardly proof of being injury prone. And a leg break is the type of injury you can come back from without losing a great deal physically and without the area being weakened, as opposed a broken ankle or ligament/tendon injuries

I would be delighted if we signed him, 2 or 3 years of scoring hatfuls of goals would be well worth the investment. And a tandem of him and Ade offers a little bit of everything, and he can operate from the left of a front 3 just as effectively giving us fluidity

What on earth am I reading from some people in here? David Villa orbits another planet compared to the likes of Defoe, Defoe has one of the finest shots i've ever seen from out of no where, and can run off a player in the blink of an eye, David Villa can do those things yet has the finesse and technical beauty to also curl in a goal from anywhere on the pitch, i'll always remember that goal he scored against United in the Champions League final, curled beautifully into the corner in the blink of an eye, thats true quality

I would be very happy going into the season with Villa Ade and Defoe as our CF's, but I would like us to sign a tricky wide player, Like Bernard. Villa can play through the middle or at LWF, giving us options for both positions, Ade is more than capable through the middle, as we saw at the end of the season. Defoe I think is going to be a squad player, but challenging on all fronts we should still be able to offer plenty of game time, and he is still a great impact player.

If we do get our striker situation to an acceptable level, don't be surprised to see a levy super special at the end of the transfer window, running after Leandro with a wheel barrow full of cash, while Baldini tries to sell Defoe to a mid table pl club....

Happy, it was a little bit of fun, and not meant at all to be offensive. I'm very happy to remove mine. :)

Well if I had looked and realized it was you I wouldn't have been that way. You're one of the products of their hard work to make this a great site.

But there is a point to my rant. I know it looks like I've only been here a year, but that's not the case. And it's fairly obvious if you see my post and see my knowledge base of the site. I seem to be the only person that remembers the goddess that was Lily Lane.

But all of us need to be aware of the great posters that forged this place. I think one of the current greats once listed a lot of the people that had laid the ground work for this site as legends. I need to find that list. Maybe he has it. But it's important we know it. They set a tone and for the most part and that tone is what set humor as highly valued here. The fact that Rob values it means a lot too. Without his guidance we might have been a much more stodgy place. The tone is always set by 1) the mods and 2) the guys they gave freedom too.

If they hadn't realized Stoof, A&C or RSS were (I know I'm missing a lot here) borderline comedic geniuses, we might be discussing things in monosyllabic hate bombs. I seriously think that the first time Stoof rated a post of mine as funny, was the single greatest thing that ever happened to my self-esteem.

For some reason, they let humor have its day. And we are lucky for that. I don't give false praise when I say this is the best place on the interwebs. It's funnier that 4chan, and yet most of the people here have stuck their wee wee in a woman hole. Okay, not me. Fuck you for gong there :(

Nice little vid of his 48 goals for Barca. The composure in his finishing is still absolutely brllliant, it is not something that will ever desert him. There's only Falcao and a couple of others about that can match Villa on this front as it stands right now, he's tricky enough with the ball at his feet, and clever enough with is movement that even if he has lost a yard or two, it still wouldn't matter in my eyes.

Edit - I'm trying to just post this as a link and not a vid as I know they aren't allowed anymore, but it automatically came up embedded ?

Two things. You can paset the link as pure text and hightlight it. Then the chain will light up in the editor. Then you can paste that into the bar and that will create the link

Or you can put things in [ spoiler ][ / spoiler ] tags (remove spaces)

I guess the question with Villa, is not so much would we have him (of course the majority of us would) but whether we spend 10-12m on him with no resale value ... We just dont do that kind of thing. I heard somebody mention recently 'but what about Parker?' well, for the 4m ish we paid for him ... i wouldnt be at all surprised if he would still have takers at that price this summer ,so not really a good comparison. 10-12m is a lot of money to us

To me, selling a guy like Dempsey to be replaced with Villa makes sense. For one thing it'd help ease the transfer fee net spend. And it'd also give us a little more relief on the wage bill. They are of similar ages and Villa is obviously the better player.

What on earth is going on in here lol Why are we comparing Klinsmann and Villa when it doesn't even matter? Also Villa is on a different level to Defoe so I for one would take him in a heartbeat although I do think we need another "Complete" striker aswell!

Well because it became fairly weird when we were comparing Villa to Parker. And my attempts to compare him to Thorstvedt was deemed too "his mother dropped him on his head as a baby-ish"

Franco 'hasn't got a clue about football' Baldini is about to introduce himself to Spurs faithful.
Very impressive Franco leading negotiations on this one.

POTL
From: COYS... for Paulinho
Positive IMO.

Watching that just reinforces the fact that we lack a playmaker in the middle. Every player on Barcelona has the ability to find those through balls that release a player like Villa. A lot of those goals were because of amazing midfield play.

I would love Villa; clinical finisher with great technique.

But it is clear we need a maestro pulling some strings.

We create enough chances, just look at our conversion rates last season, even a bit higher and we'd be playing CL next year.

Does potl mean that we are close to announcing paulinho? Great news if true and hopefully just the start.

I watched 80% of the games and we created chances, but personally they aren't top notch chances.

We need someone or a couple for the matter that picks passes.

Dembele- sometimes has the pass
Sandro- beast but passing isn't his game
Lennon- through pass? What's that?
Bale- has it, but is forced to do it himself
Parker- I can pass back!
The rest- the same

Isn't this what we all want? A player cut from the same cloth such as Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta, mata, and the list goes on.
