So Paulinho (I called it first  ) and Villa, is that going to be the fabled double signing coinciding with kit launch that everyone has talked about for nigh on 3 year now...

or are there also gonna be a couple of croatlings in the background holding hands with Levy?

Not really. I'm sure there's a very good chance of him leaving next summer. In fact I'm certain of it. But I didn't think we had a hope in hell of keeping him after missing out on the top 4.

It's going to feel so good starting the season with the best player in the Premiership in our team, and one of the best in the world. How is that not good news?

Because it's not news. It's good, but we already knew he was staying for this coming season at this point, even if we were worried come the end of last season.

Fair enough if you've been pretty confident on this, but personally I'll breathe a little easier if/when his new contract is announced. As Happy says, it's just as much a statement of intent as anything else.

It would also mean that we've pushed on to a new wage structure, which could be incredibly good news further down the line when trying to keep players and compete for others.

It is news, most certainly. Our best player signing a new contract will only give us more protection even if we were in a strong position contractually.

Ok we won't know what clauses and stipulations are built into the contract but psychologically it has massive implications - the fans, other players, our competitors.

If all this is announced this week it really does send a powerful message that we mean business and we have serious ambition. Paulinho is even being quoted as saying about how impressed he was with our ambition. I'm sure Villa will feel likewise.

Been away for a few days. Can someone fill me in on the consensus interpretations of Three Amigos (update 91)and George Duke (update 98) please?

There's a huge difference between a player staying against their will and a player signing a new deal, even if the end result in both cases is a move the following year. It's simply much better for team spirit and the supporters goodwill.

Three Amigos was Jackson Martinez from Porto (F) I think. Forgive me is I used the wrong first name

George Duke was Paulinho. But personally I don't have any faith in that ITK. I'll believe it when Paulinho says he's joining us in a press conference. Pffft

Amazing innit.
Nothing on the OS, but every bit of ITK just raises the bar higher; Paulinho, Villa, Jedvaj, Halilovic, Bale.

We'll all wake up in a minute.

[As I typed this my phone autocorrected Jedvaj to KEEGAN! A little cosmic joke?! Keegan and Ber.yl our long term CBs?]

We have to be cool about this man. If Rob doesn't pick up on Keegan we can pull an Ever Switch-er-frog-eroo and Dave this Croat stud. But if he finds out, well.......we know about him and his precious word filter. Just for giggles, if you type in HappySpur it will change it to my name. And that's possibly the nastiest thing you can call somebody.

I have a funny feeling that in a few years time we will be looking back on this day as the one that truly kicked off a new glorious era at Spurs!

As Milhouse would say, 'Everything's coming up Tottenham!'
