Been away from the site since just before the TW deadline, because of being on the road a lot with work and virus problems with my laptop, so couldn't join in the last day fun or comment since.

Apparently the deal for MS could have been done the week before the deadline if Townsend had gone the other way, but he refused to go so it didn't happen. It is expected we will go back in for him and Rodriguez in January if we can off load a couple more. We are staying in touch with H Moreno too and any offer for him would depend on fitness and form of Kaboul. The club are pretty happy with the business done and it is a very happy place at the moment despite the defeat last weekend.

Just to comment on Bus Conducter's comments above, I agree with most of what he says except for the comment about better quality than years before. I think we are buying too many good but not great players and prior to this window I was being told we were going for quality rather than quantity, but for some reason that never panned out that way and we ended up with too many players of similar style and quality. If you look at our squad there are not too many that would be wanted by our nearest rivals in the top 6 or so having said that I do realise that not every successful team has 11 world class players in it. I think we just need to give Poch a bit of time to see what he can do with what we got, but he is not a magician and certain players seem to dim to grasp what they have to do in the set up, but I guess time will tell.
In regards to the similar style quality, I have to disagree, I think most were signings of types we needed. They only player acquisition I would question in that regards is Davies as he looks too slow (both in pace and on the turn) to play full back in Poch's system. But the rest:

Vorm - We now have a back up GK that can play the behind high-line (and who is under 40) meaning we don't have to change tactics when he plays.
Dier - Young versatile player than could turn out to be quality, has speed, good defensive skills and good on the ball. Long term replacement for Kaboul IMO.
Yedlin - Improving all the time in defense, already decent in attack and fast as hell. Yes we already had Naughton as back up, but Naughton offers nothing in attack.
Fazio - We needed a CB who wouldn't get bullied by the stronger Fwd's and now we have one. He also has great interception stats, so he should suit Poch's high pressing high line.
Stambouli - We were in need of a tenacious DM with decent passing skills and hopefully this guy fits the bill.

For me, the disappointment of the window was the players we didn't get. I think we are crying out for a wide forward with pace, that makes good runs off the ball (especially behind the defence) with good finishing and dribbling skills and since we decided to let Holtby go out on loan, we need another creative player.

I'm also gutted we sold Sandro.

Bit off topic; just watched Rodriguez (Swiss LB) play, he was being touted as a potential signing and a lot of people said he would cost near £20m. Based on today's performance if he's worth £20m then so is Rose.

Thanks for the report.

I'm not one of the ones that were pro us going after him (don't really think he would even come), but his value is in his balance. Not only is he excellent defensively, but his offensive production last season was outlandish.
