Either this thread starts getting back on topic or i'll put on my thunderpants and set about people with the banstick

The Mikel stuff, etc came about because Trix asked me which players I would prefer to have at Spurs instead of Kramer, etc. I responded. I assumed that this was okay as Trix is generally regarded as ITK. I'm not sure but is this where the thread is going off topic?

That gold coin rating I suggested last week where people must pay up according to number of coin ratings they receive in the ITK thread doesn't look that bad any longer, huh (y)

Did I just qualify for a coin? Sounds interesting. Anyway it may have got everyone doing Sean Connery impressions by the shedload but at least my post was ITK related.

I'm not too aware of other teams transfer business but it just seems ours are always referred to as 'complicated' (like that old facebook status which meant you were getting dumped). Invariably meaning nothing eventually happens. Is that where we are, a DL thing, a Spurs thing, a premiership thing, an anyone but Chelsea & Manchester City thing, or is it not a thing at all (it just seems that way to me)?

I'm sure the fee is one aspect of the complication (re Trix ITK) with Southampton knowing they have to sell, wanting to get the best fee are happy to wait and see who pipes up in the next month or so, if ManC don't come in and bid 55m then our offer (whatever that may be) might end up being the best and they have to take it.

Another will be the player himself is thinking along the same lines. He knows we want him and would come to us, but if Arsenal, ManU etc make moves and sound him out then he's going to want to wait and see if anything concrete comes of it because as much as he'd come to us, he'd prefer to be playing CL and getting CL wages.

You've probably got similar situation with players like Kramer. Big boys are sniffing so he and club are waiting to see what materialises before decisions can be made.

You can understand some of the complications, we have interest in very good players but we have fiscal limitations, the players have interest in very good teams and very good wages, their clubs have interest in maximising the money they get for losing the player. All of those things have to align for us to get close to buying the player.

With regards to Schneiderlin, I'm thinking no news is good news....

With Oscar, Willian and countless others, we've often been close only to be gazumped at the last minute. As much as we like ITK, it's open to everyone - including rivals.

I'm happy to be under the pretence that nothing is happening, even if something is happening. Both sides may be saying nothing is occuring, but as far as we know that could be a bluff.

That being said, I reckon any leaks will be tactical from So'ton side in order to drive up the bidding imo.

Let's remember that he's HG, and we're to expect some excessive HG bidding from the oligarchs

Pretty sure that sums up exactly where we are.

Probably a perfect synopsis of the situation.

Totally agree with this and i've pointed it out many times. Our dilemma now is - do we just look to sign an alternative, who is easier to get, probably because they are lesser quality or don't totally fit the criteria of player that Poch wants for the position. Or do we wait it out and hope that everything aligns and we sign Schneiderlin.

That is why we remove some of those complications. We can't afford to wait on Southampton or Schneiderlin unless we have convinced ourselves that no transfer is necessary - i.e. Schneiderlin or nothing.

So we give a reasonable deadline - that puts pressure on both Soton and Schneiderlin to make a decision based on a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Do they risk passing on a sure thing, for another offer that never materializes? Either way it gives us time to move on to plan b.

Schneiderlin all day long - genuinely believe it'd be the difference....

Honestly, I hope not. I think the position we are in we should sign the players that we have earmarked who we believe will improve our first team markedly or not sign anyone. We have squad depth all over the pitch now and some really talented and well drilled kids coming through as well, we don't need any more decent but average squad fillers.

See above.

I'd rather wait all summer and either get a player guaranteed to improve us or not sign anyone at all. We don't need squad thickening, we have good kids coming through who can fill this remit (or better). Dier, Mason and Bentaleb have just had their first full season's, so will be even more experienced next year, Onomah, Winks, Pritchard and Veljkovic will be added to the first team group as well as will Wimmer and Trippier.

We don't need any more padding.

Why the fuck are our transfer deals always so bloody complicated? You'd think all Levy has to do is get the player and his agent into his cave / office and just hover his finger over the button that opens the floor into the shark pool.

"So you expect me to talk"

"No Mr Schneiderlin I expect you to sign*"

*It's actually quite easy to do a Sean Connery impression by saying MS' name

I bet you tried.

You're a waste of space.

I'd be happy with that for all positions except striker - I don't regard non scoring players like Soldado and Adebayor as strikers so by that definition we have only one striker, and definitely need a reinforcement or two.

Taking a tough stance of only buying players to improve us significantly is good - but we need to carry it through if need be, so our CM's could be Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll, Stambouli and Veljkovic (probably having sold Dembele & Paulhino) with the likes of Dele Alli, Josh Onomah and Harry Winks on the frnges.

But if we haven't signed a CM by mid August I can see SC going into meltdown to sign any one regardless of the very clear logic you've outlined !

Agreed. The only reason we should move on from Schneiderlin at this junction imho is if he signs for someone else or our backup targets may also be tempted elsewhere. We have too many there, it's the top quality we need or none at all.
