Yeah, exactly, reckon it will happen early august though, we shall see, I think we need to get him off the wage bill this year and before his value depreciates too much.

Hahah, without doubt! 'errrrr Daniel, Clint hasn't turned up to training all week' 'Did I not mention I sold him on sunday night to Liverpool Andre'?

It'll be three weeks before Dempsey realises.

And have adebayor as our lone frontman?

The players in our hypothetical squad who could play in the front 4 of a 4-2-3-1 and the front 3 of a 4-3-3 would be Holtby, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Townsend, Bale, Villa, Adebayor, Dempsey, Defoe, Kane, Obika, Ceballos.

Still plenty of options?

Signing Paulinho and Villa.
Selling Parker, Livermore, Huddlestone, Defoe Dempsey
Releasing Bentley, Gallas

Not promoting this route but I would accept it.
EDIT: ITK suggests sale of Dempsey more likely than Defoe.

Cheers for the info storts and JJ. Disappointing that Hudd's ankle may bring his value down. If we could get in excess of 5m for him that would do a good bit towards getting another solid player that could impact the first XI.

I personally think he'll end up going for about £5 million but as JJ said, DL will want more

But Clint's not a striker. He grabs a few goals but ultimately he's an attacking mid or wide forward option. He could have a place potentially as the wide left man in a 4-3-3 which may suit him better than this year's roles he's been given, but he's not a central striker.

I'm not saying he is.

I'm just saying that I've become pretty jaded with Ade after this season, and I feel that Clint offered the team more effort than Ade ever did. I would rather have Clint on the pitch giving 110% than Ade quite clearly giving about 60%.

I think one of the ITK's mentioned Ade not being too popular with the rest of the team anyway. And IF we are about to start signing a host of players I would rather keep Clint during this period so our squad is not massively messed around with. He'll be happy to play when needed and I'm willing to bet will still pop up with important goals.

There's a clear and positive team spirit at the moment and I think Dempsey has the attitude to continue contributing towards that.

The most disappointing thing from that (JJ/storts) is hearing about Kaboul's situation, I didn't know it was so bad. Wasn't King's injury a bone to bone problem in the knee? Not saying they're identical cases, but worrying nonetheless...

Here was me hoping that we would have a solid CB pairing for most the season for once in Kaboul and Vertonghen, seems as if we'll be interchanging again...

Dempsey, Parker and Huddlestone all off would be a pretty big statement of intent to overhaul with players that fit AVB's wants in my opinion.
Lets be honest, we talk this bollocks of youth and shit but it is our squad is over inflated at the moment for dempsey to be given a chance let alone youth. Falque and Townsend struggled to get minutes last season and a move to 433, and additions like Villa and Paulinho will only make it harder for the likes of Dempsey and siggy to get minutes let alone someone like Pritchard potentially.

When we signed him I though Terry Gibson(the guy who managed him at Fulham) was being harsh to dempsey but he was right imo

Both players piss me off, but in different ways. Adebayor pisses me off at times because he was so incredibly out of form last season. Clint because he's just so incredibly average. Still, he usually gives it his all and I can respect that. IF Adebayor can get back in shape he can be a very important player for us as seen in the 11/12 season, whereas Clint is a good squad player but nothing more.

Clint Dempsey is the hero of Team US and can help raise our profile in USA, and it makes sense to keep him here for commercial reasons.

Neither Holtby or siggy are really made for the role in the front 3 of a 433 as imo their natural position is in the most advanced position of a 433

That's a fair argument, Daredevil. Don't know if the team get on with Ade but Clint is indeed a worker. From what I understand from the ITK postings is that neither Defoe nor Ade are safe. Depending on who we bring in I wouldn't be bothered about losing either, as long as the forward line up is ultimately strengthened.

The problem with Ade is that his potential ability on that field far exceeds Dempsey. The season before he was excellent and seemed very committed and so we know he can be like this. It's really difficult to say if he's ever going to do that again, but I get what you're saying about Clint being more dedicated. For me though, although Dempsey is dedicated he's not a consistent performer. He played poorly in too many games and struggled to fit into the team, despite popping up with the odd goal here or there. Sigurdsson scored a few as well yet contributed more, I'd rather have him than Dempsey any day of the week. Also, if Dempsey goes I'm sure we can bring in a player who can do more than just pop up with the odd goals.

I get what you're saying, and don't entirely disagree with it, however I'd still Adebayor as being a more important and key player than Dempsey, even if he isn't completely dedicated.

I'm sorry but if we're keeping a mediocre (at best) player around for commercial reasons we're in deeper shit than I thought.

So that means they play in the middle 3 when we play 4-3-3, or the 3 in a 4-2-3-1. There's plenty of other players in that list who need, deserve and will get gametime. My point is we have plenty of options. A good squad.

Intriguing info from the boys there.

Didn't Hudd to Stoke collapse cos he failed a medical last year?
Parker will find a home somewhere, i'm sure.

Plenty will go as we'll need the their fees

While I agree he's not the best player in the league he's a good squad player. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he should be a starter but it's a squad game. Clint Dempsey is not the worst of the sort.

You say good squad but we have a bigger squad than any other top 5 team when you look at the options City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal have, you see they have smaller squads but more quality

I thought we cancelled it after selling VDV, failing to bring in Moutinho, and realising that Hudd was the closest thing left at our club that remotely resembled a creative footballer.
