I can't see the Bolassie rumour paying off. Possible smokescreen to spook Berahino into making a request? Lessen the pressure on negotiations...

Think it is more likely that he is somewhere on our list (and i wouldn't think at the top of the list) BUT his agent is using Spurs to ring the dinner bell and see if ultimately he can get his player more money either from a contract or a move.

That's probably £50mill give or take. Can't see that.More likely one of Mccarthy and Berihino and a cheaper option for whichever postion wasn't filled.
Werner not sure about with Berihino we do need some experience as well.

It probably would be about that. I did say it was the best we could hope for though, not to expect it necessarily.

I think we'll end up with Beharino. Levy won't see him as a risk, even at the guts of 20 million because he's young, British and is already proven in this League ie his resale value would remain high. So it wouldn't be viewed a risky investment from that point of view (notwithstanding his questionable character)

McCarthy I think is less likely. Wouldn't rule it out because of their interest in Lennon but I think they'd demand a premium which we won't be comfortable with. I'm hoping, quite optimistically, that we can get creative with Everton - involving Lennon, or perhaps others.

Werner - all depends how firm our interest is in the kid.

But that was going on for months, concluded on deadline day as they caved.

Lol Luckily nobody else would match the fee, as truly would of ended like most Levy transfer so called attempts .
Yes then Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas gave a great insight, with launching a bitter attack on Levy and Spurs after claiming they have made it the hardest deal in his 25 years of his experience. Suppose Levy wanted some French gastronomy lessons thrown in too !!

Certainly wouldn't be complaining myself with that either.

Njie is about to sign a new contract though - I think.
Where did you hear that, he only signed a new one 10 months ago? There must be a high % of players we target that sign new deals.

Thought I read it in the Njie thread earlier...

could an injury to McCarthy be holding up any deal to sign him? hence why there's not the rush to sign him, for a position we are looking at filling?

I'd say what Everton are asking would be a more likely reason for any hold up!!

I do understand that, but with an injury and no return date as of yet, if Poch wants 1 in by the start, we definitely not going to be signing him tomorrow or until we have an idea of when he might be able to resume to training at least.

if Poch wants him now we have lost out on MS, hopefully if Levy is going to try and use Lennon as part of the deal, hopefully Levy will drop Aarons asking price if he is really going to back him, and with whats happened so far I believe he is

It wasn't a serious injury though mate, just a knock on the ankle.

Ahhh the old Levy deadline day myth. Love Levy but apart from VDV who was a truly epic signing it has never happened again.

Ah the old strawman myth. Levy is known for deadline day deals, not deadline day blockbusters.

So the question is whether he engages in deadline day antics
Let's see
04-05 - Dawson, Reid and Reto
05-06 - Lee Pyo Young, Jenas, Rasiak, Murphy, Ghaly
06-07 - Malbranque
07-08 - Gilberto
08-09 - Corluka and Keane * although Corluka was done way before and some weird things happened
09-10 - NIko
10-11 - VDV
11-12 - Parker + Saha and Nelsen
12-13 - Dempsey and Lloris
13-14 - Churches, Eriksen and Lamela happened on the 30th. Shame on Levy

As the French would say "Oui, Oui, un thousand times Oui". He took last year off and I guess you are allowed to change the argument.

And then there is a smattering of the old confirmation bias myth.

VDV is the only epic one? Dawson alone makes that comment offensive as he did 10 years and was captain.......he is the definition of epic so show some respect. But overall 12 of those players have been very important to us over the years. And Hugo is "the again" argument.

So if you and the crew of "I agree with your false statement crew" will engage in a bit of due diligence in the future, we can avoid such ridiculousness. Or just be Mike Ashley......either way is fine with me.

The old straw-man argument myth. Levy is known for deadline day deals, not deadline day blockbusters.

So the question is whether he does engage in deadline deals
2004-05 - Dawson/Reid and Reto Ziegler
2005-20 - Lee Pyo Young, Rasiak and Jenas + Murphy and Ghaly
2006-07 - Malbranque
2007-08 - Gilberto
2008-09 - Corluka* + Keane
2009-10 - Kranjcar
2010-11 - VDV
2011-12 - Parker + Saha and Nelsen
2012-13 - Hugo, Dembele* and Clint Dempsey
* these two specifically had been all but agreed upon weeks in advance and craziness ensued.

That's called a resounding "Ya Burned!!!!" in most circles. He took last year off and I guess you are allowed to change the argument.

Eriksen, Lamela and Chiriches signed on the day before deadline day in the 2013/14 season as well. We're near guaranteed to be active in the last 48 hours of the transfer window.

McCarthy, Beharino and Werner.

I think that's the best we can realistically hope for. I'd certainly be delighted with that.
I agree but I think it'll be Berahino or McCarthy, I'd be amazed if we got both considering the cost, genuinely staggered. I can't see McCarthy happening tbh I think Berahino is a possibility though. £15m does sound a bit cheap but I think £18m is reasonable. I'd be very happy with Berahino and that's a fair price imo. It doesn't seem like there's much interest from other clubs in Werner, but I'm not sure how strong our interest is either. He seems very affordable and I imagine he's the kind of player that Poch/Mitchell were hoping for. I think if the interest is strong then we have a good chance.

I just don't see us spending much money and the CM thing is a massive concern for me. I am still cautious of getting too excited about Berahino too. Just worried they'll slap a stupid price tag on him and at this rate even the agent of a West Brom player mugging us off for a new contract wouldn't surprise me lol

Its not all about pace though as lennon used to be jet heeled but would often struggle with end product.
We do need pace in the team but it must be mixed together with intelligence in our play.

I didnt really say anything about pace..

We've got loads of intelligent players, what we need some WTF?!?! for opposing defenders.

Really hope some of this ins comes into fruition just in time for the all star game. What a way to advertise to a new market by unveiling on the 29th a PEA or even Beraihno. Sadly I'm sure agents know this as well. Probably won't be until after.
