AEG hold significant interest in the Lakers so not really too surprising.

That's needs a bit of clarification for those that don't know. The Buss family owns the Lakers. AEG owns the Staples Center where they play.

But that is semantics. And it would have something to do with Nash.

They are not advertisers though and I can't see the tenuous links to bidding for naming rights as has been mentioned here. I could see them becoming partners but doubt it would have much in the way of an impact on things such as transfers

Only one problem the 2 biggest signings we met the release clause. So it wouldn't matter if they thought we had £1bn to spend. Neither of which would replace bale.

Levy doesn't make moves based on the potential sale of an asset because there are no guarantees the sale will go through or that he'd get the fee required for said moves. Someone as smart as Levy does not just go crazy because he thinks he'll get 100 million out of Madrid, such speculation is ridiculously out of character for him.
As out of character as Joe Lewis just spunking £50m-£100m on football players. Something is going on, that is clear to see. Until the window shuts, I'm keeping my hopes realistic, based on Levy's previous, and how I felt after the Moutinho deal collapsed last year.

And another thing, if Lewis was to gift the club money, surely it would be for the stadium, and not for players?

I think if Bale was to be sold we would definitely go for a stellar signing like Lamela or Willian.

I'm hoping we'll go for one of them now and hold out until next year to sell Bale.

Those are the two most likely scenarios in my mind.

I don't think we are done with incomings now (bar defensive solutions) and we'll just sell Bale.

Personally Bobbins, I couldn't give a fuck what nationality our players are. If finishing in the top 4 every single year and playing great means being like Arsenal, bring that on asap.

Why do you care what nationality our players are ? Surely all that matters is the ability of those that play for us ?

Why do I care? Because I just do. I think a lot of people do.

Arsenal were absolutely (and rightly) pilloried when they played their first Premiership game without an English player, and again when they did it in the Champion's League. It matters because we're an English club. It matters because the fans are mostly English. It matters because we have English players who are more than good enough to play for us, and want to play for us, and I don't want to sell them in order to make a couple of quid and get a Carlos Kickaball with absolutely no connection to the club in their place.

Chelsea and City have no respect from anyone in football because they've bought their way to the title, and this is a similar, but even more important concept.

I don't want success at any cost. There's no soul in that, no real glory, it's just a game of who played FM better.

As a club we're constantly talking about our connection to the area of Tottenham and the people of Tottenham - well what better way to represent that than to bring through young players (when they prove themselves to be good players) from London?

I don't care about the England national team most of the time but I am very proud to see Carroll score a stunning goal for his country, my country, tonight.

It matters.

With regards your last paragraph, not really. Better players in turn hopefully bring success. Success brings bigger exposure. Bigger exposure brings larger deals to the table re Stadium rights and sponsors. Meaning uncle Joe doesn't have to find said stadium himself

Even as an American I'd like to see an English core, preferably home grown as a key part of the team. It's the one thing that truly makes football great relative to American sports, the local club being a representation of a community and not just a group of 20-30 men forming a monopoly to start a league to make money. It still matters, not as much as it did, but something is better than nothing. And nothing is worth selling your soul, be it how Arsenal did it, or how Chelsea and City have.

No way are we going to find £400m from commercial deals even if we win the PL and Europa next year. Not even Barca and United pocket that kind of cash.

I feel like the Grinch spoiling Xmas, but I really just want people to temper their hopes a bit from all this too good to be true stuff. Otherwise this place could be full of maniacs come the window closing.

We won 6-0!

Just made myself look even more stupid by going to see if you were joking...only to find you meant the under 21 team and Tom Carroll, and not the full England team and Andy Carroll.

Though the words 'goal' and Carroll' should have cleared that up for me really.

ok so ive just watched this from afar and not got involved in the insane amount of bi-polar like to-ing and fro-ing of the will he, wont he. Signing Lamela for instance by most is seen as a replacement for Bale this season. Personally i think it makes more sense from a sporting point of view to have both in the team/ squad this season giving our team Bale for another season and also a natural replacement with a premier league season (no adjustment / settling in period needed) under his belt.
Have heard a lot of nonsense about RM being broke and hinted at because they still owe us for modric. Now im no expert but it seems that deal was agreed with a payment schedule including payments in installments over a period of years. Because they havent paid the full amount doesnt make them broke, the same as we 'owe' money on numerous deals and were not broke.
If this is indeed the case, a number of people have suggested that we get coentrao from RM as a way of writing off the money owed. Doing this if im correct in my assumptions would wipe out that slice of debt RM would have thereby freeing up capital (i.e less debt - more lending scope)for a bigger move for Bale. Is this really what we want??
Lots of people have stated we should just sell him and have done because his heads turned. Did Bale tell you himself? or are we listening to a) ITK which, pinch of salt and all that jazz or b) a variety of journalistic media sources who re-hash and re-print old news and non quoted sources. Bale was and still is until such a time he does ACTUALLY leave our biggest and best star. Having him in the team is better than all of the so-called replacements who between them have about 0 minutes of premiership experience. OK rant over, remember pinch of salt (or truckload) and please lets cut out all the irrational bullshit

Tottenham, that bastion of Englishness eh ?

I bet somewhere in Highbury as Arsenal won the league playing some of the best football England's premier league had seen there was a fan thinking "I wish Thierry Henry was as English as Jermain Defoe".

They had players like Adams, Keown and Seaman in their team when they were truly great, and Cole, Parlour and Campbell in the Invincibles side. In fact since they went all-foreign they've slipped into their current stade form and now Wenger is trying to buy English again.

Aside from that, I know fans of every team who had absolutely no respect for them when they had no English players.

It's football, it's a following, a calling, a passion - it's not a win-at-all-costs game of numbers and names on paper. Not yet anyway. Not for me.

You know other xenophobic idiots ? well done.

They have and have had English players since. The currently have quite a few (Gibbs, Wilshire, Ox-Ch, Walcott, etc) and are as poor as they have ever been.

Must have really took the gloss off Ricky Villa's wembley goal for you, him being a foreigner and all.

It really isn't xenophobic to want some local players in the team you support, and shame on you for calling him that. I suppose Athetico Bilbao are a bunch of biggots too?
