Hmmm..I would trust Levys negotiaion skill over anyone on this forum. The only reason we are able to offer so much for Soldado in the first place is due to years of Levy haggling on every deal be it buying or selling.

Look who he learnt from. Lewis made his money with Soros by breaking the Bank of England during Black Wednesday.

Its called negotiation. I don''t know why everyone is crying so much.
While its negotiation to a point, it's also taking advantage of someone weaker.

Negotiations (for normal people and purchases) tend to have offers increasing and asking price decreasing until a compromise is met in the middle ground.

Levy doesn't operate like this, which is why he is a millionaire businessman, and most people aren't. But his tactics make me (and others) nervous.

Am I right in thinking that the rest of the Valencia board wanted to accept our offer, only the president is determined to have his specific demands met?

If so, I'm not surprised that Levy is going to keep pushing - he would anyway regardless I guess.

He's getting at the fact that, at 28 Soldado's value will probably depreciate here on in. The likelyhood of someone paying that kind of money in 12 months are slim.

What I was trying to say is that we would expect Levy to get every single penny he could from selling Bale. How can we hate their chairman for trying to do the same for Soldado? If the price is too much we walk away, but you shouldn't hate or be angry with the Valencia chairman for it.

I think that was the info we had yesterday (maybe the day before).

The article the American translated in the Soldado thread points the finger at the Valencia chairman as being the first one to move the goal posts. (pg 12 if anyones interested).

Of course, and I'm not complaining about Levy squeezing the best deal for the club but would be a high risk strategy that see's a number of targets get away. When it pays off its a master stroke, when it doesn't the search starts again as we've seen for several windows trying to sign a quality striker. But I guess it's the only way we might be able to bring in a top class striker that we could afford, however all hinges on the desperation of the selling club.

It is risky and I can understand why some of our fans hate it and think it's undermining our chances of CL. But I think it's one of the major reasons we're even challenging for CL in the first place. You look at Liverpool who have overspent, they earn/spend more money than us but are behind us, not only in terms of the squad but also stadium plans/training ground etc...

But just get this one done Daniel, we are so close to really being able to challenge this year it would break my heart to let Soldado slip away. Even though it is a bit of an over spend.

Soldado and the 6 million fee.

The story so far. Once upon a time there was a football club called Valencia who had a goalscorer called Soldado.

Valencia had a president who did his best to cut costs but time came for him to leave so he made sure his friends all got long contracts and left to let a new guy take over.

This new president wanted to raise money so he decided he could sell his striker and put a 30 million price on his head. He told all the football club fans Soldado will not be sold for under 30 million.

With 6 million agents fees as well, naturally nobody was interested. Clubs talked but but it was not until Tottingham came along and said we'll buy him that the new president could talk to anybody.

He said I'll waive the agents 6 million fees, we'll include them in the price so Mr Baldini, who had been sent by Tottingham to speak to the player and the president, talked with the agent of Soldado. The agent said Soldado wants to leave and he wants to come to Spurs so off Mr Baldini went to see the president.

He told the president and that Soldado wanted to move to Tottingham and Soldado also told the president. This pleased the president because he need 14 million to balance his books and some money for new players.

Mr Baldini said I will give you 26 million + 4 million later when Soldado has done some things for us. That includes the agents 6 million so you will get your 30 million. The president however wanted all his money now or 2 payments not over 5 years as Mr Baldini wanted.

The Valencia board were meeting the following day so the president said he will ask them then.

Mr Baldini later said to the president I will pay you 24 million + 2 million extras but no 6 million agents fees.

The president said no, you will pay all the 30 million and how I want it, you can come back to me when you agree to this before 3 August.

Mr Baldini said no I won't and left to go home to Tottingham.

Will president rue his decision, he still has to find 14 million from somewhere and nobody will give in to his demands.

Time will tell.

So boys and girls this all hinges on 6 million agents fees.

Been posted before

As a general rule, if something is over 10 minutes old on another forum, it is probably here already. If it's on the OS it's 1 minute.

This! Love or hate DL, it is his (and JL's) prudent fiscal stewardship that has us where we are, and that is being on the cusp of the top 4. I remember the Spurs teams of the late 60's and mid 70's, and the Scholar (sp) years. I do believe we are on a much sounder financial footing than we have been in the last 40 or 50 years. I want the best players, CL, trophies, titles, etc. I wish that DL would bite hard and get RS, and any other player(s) we need to push on. I believe that we will be back at the top again (y)

If we manage to add Sodado to Chadli and Paulinho it will be a great achievement.

If we were to add Coentrao and McCarthy as well, we would have a squad capable of challenging the very best.

A squad easily capable of winning multiple trophies - including the league.

Keep taking the medication, it will eventually work. Well it did for me anyway...............:bag:

Coentrao would be a great signing. Plus if we are trying to shift Rose, Naughton and Benny we'll pretty much cover the cost with our outgoings. Obviously it's never that easy though....
