How many times have we lost leads this season. Having someone with some pace who can play on the shoulder like Berahino to bring on when the other team pushing forward will allow us to exploit the space behind their defence which we don't currently seem able to do

Unless Poch, as I suspect is the case, intends to use Berahino as one of the wide attackers in the 3 behind Kane.

I can only see that as the plan? That's what makes the desire for his signature so confusing, as we are obviously extremely well stacked in that particular department.

Maybe there's a formation change on the horizon?

I agree we are well stacked unless we pick up a couple of injuries.

signing Berahino would mean we would have a striker if anything happened to Kane. going into the 2nd half of the season with 3 comps on the horizon signing him means Poch would be able to rotate.

against the top teams we could play

Kane
Berahino - Eriksen/Alli-Lamela

in cup comps, against weaker teams
Berahino
Son _ Eriksen/Alli- Lamela/N'jie (when fit)

weaker teams in the League
Kane/Berahino
Son _ Eriksen/Alli- Lamela/N'jie (when fit)

rotation is going to be so important from March onwards, or before if we have that little bit of extra cover

Don't think any one singular acquisition suddenly can change our win and draw ratios for the rest of this specific season.

I blame the CIA
Not Jenas?

Really worrying that we seem to be putting all our eggs in one basket again...

That's not the way the management is looking at it. Multiple quotes from Pochettino have reconfirmed that he does not want to sign a second striker (or any other position) unless it is someone whom he wants for the long term. He has been explicit to the point of being blunt (for him) that we will either sign a player he wants or we will persevere with what we have.

You can worry as much as you like. You can disagree with it. But do not confuse it with negligence or laziness. It is a calculated policy.

And it is backed up with his previous practice. Fazio, Stambouli and Yedlin were all signed in Summer 2014, after Pochettino had been appointed and presumably with his tacit approval. On closer inspection, he found that he didn't like them as footballers and he didn't play them.

If we sign a striker who isn't on his wanted list, he won't play them, even if it costs us results in the short term.

I don't get what he sees in Berahino. I've only watched him play a few times and he seems to be a slightly inferior Defoe-style player to me, certainly nothing like the backup no. 9 that I would like us to sign. But Pochettino has turned Eric Dier into a pretty convincing defensive midfielder in short order, as well as turning Erik Lamela into a tough-tackling all-round midfielder. And he appears to have had Walker on a special diet of brain-food as well. I'd rather trust his judgment until he fucks a couple of those bits of man-management up.

Run, run for your life, David. That is a comparison that does not go down well in these parts :censored::cautious:

Very few.

Teams defend deep against us. Players that specialise in counterattacking like Berahino are no use to us. We need players with a bit of guile. We have Njie as a pace option on the rare occasions we need one.

3 things

1) Fazio was captain of a good seville side. who had just won the Uefa cup. Hardly a bad player to go for?
2) Osvaldo. Well that could have gone either way. unfortunatley he was madder than a bus full of crankies.
3) How old is Berahino again? I heard he was the same age as 11, 2 year olds? but i might have heard wrong

EDIT: Sorry was replying to an earlier post about Pockys decision making regarding transfers. This post makes no sense what so ever otherwise.

Njie is new, young and unproven.
I don't really fancy the idea of him being our only pace option. He's looked ok in his couple of cameos but that's hardly much to go on.
Plus, pace can be handy against deep defenders too, just in a different way. It makes defenders nervy and uncomfortable, especially if that pace comes in the first few yards.

I thought Berahino had a contract stipulation that his shirt number must match his age minus 12?

Find it strange that if we've been in constant contact with WB trying to get this done that they played him today.
