It was already negligence and a sackable offense when we didnt sign another striker in the summer.

No because how many times does this need to be said?

Poch is looking to bring in the right player, not just any player. He doesn't want a backup purely for the sake of it, he wants a particular willing to fit the profile of the team. There is nothing negligent or sack-able about listening to what the manager desires.

I genuinely think the players are desperate to create the level of success that the clubs who will temp them in the window have, here.

That's the dream, and I think it might actually be the case with this group (kane especially) for the reasons you listed, however football history is littered with players taking the easy route to the top.

Heck, even Gary Neville left sky sports this week got champions league football....

...unless its anal :woot:

You're right though - Poch and his team will have a specific profile and a shortlist of players that fit that. If we can't get anyone on that shortlist then we'll not sign a player.

It all makes sense to me but I do worry that come March/April with more Europa/FA Cup and Prem games some of our more 'intense' players will tire and team performances will reflect this.

...either way, getting the right player at the right place in January is bloody tricky!

It'll be interesting to see if anything unfolds but I have no expectations...

Hahahahahahahhahahahahah. Are you kidding? Was this a serious post? Son and N'Jie are fucking AM's, and N'Jie looks far from ready for alot of game action in any competition.

We only have 1 striker.

Berahino's an AM too.

So is about every forward we are being linked to, except Dembele and Negredo (not going to happen now they've sacked the coach who marginalised him).

Do you really want another Saha or Rasiak (Austin or Lambert) panic buy for the sake of it, who we'll struggle to offload and will need to 'sell before we buy' for the next 2 years?

Short-termism is a thing of the past at Pochenham. We're building for 2018.

I'm amazed this thread got to page 2 before the first anti-Levy rant....yawn.

Papiss cisse was signed in january, scored a goal a game for the rest of the season including a wonder goal against chelsea, then forgot how to play football... that was a funny one. Torres and Carroll deals were january as well. Strikers signed in january are almost definitely cursed.

Not sure whether to read the Berahino ITK as, we'll go back in for him but have other targets as WBA are unlikely to deal, OR we've moved on from Berahino now and will be pursuing only new targets.

Read it as "we'll go back for him but expect WBA to decline us, so we've got other targets lined up".

Oh no. Just popped in to have a general nosey and find this is bloody open again. I'm doomed and cast into the pit.

As it happens I think WBA will deal, they are kind of forced to (if we still want to). I think they already know they dropped one massive bollock. Also it doesn't at all hurt that they think we're looking at other targets. This will straight away get back to them also - not suggesting they (or even we) are being fed stuff but I kind of sense bluff and double bluff. Really also depends on how much we want to target him as the right player for us.

Why do you say they dropped a Bollock? As far as they are concerned they have rebuffed an unsolicited approach and planned for Bera'd eventual departure. Ok his contract has run down but that would have happened anyway. There are still opportunities for another club to come in for him. Until then, they still have a Player that we wanted.

Unsurprising news about Berahino.

After the summer fiasco I don't think he has responded particularly well. Poch is so strict about his players attitudes and fitness, and Berahino has let the summer issues affect both of those. He looked fat, and lethargic against Arsenal. I just don't see anyone in our recruiting team thinking he fits into our team philosophy anymore. Plenty of strikers in the world and we need a fit one if they are going to get any minutes in the second half of the year.

Fcuk Berahino I'd take lambert instead.
Worked with Poch and knows the system.

It's reasonable to assume that we would still hold an interest in Berahino and as Mr Pink alluded to, WBA have achieved nothing by holding on to him like they did. He hasn't performed anywhere close to his level this season and now whatever happens, they won't get even remotely close to the offer they had on the table from us before.

I would certainly take him in January if a deal can be done. Enough time has passed since the summer for everyone to have calmed down over this so as long as Jeremy Peace isn't a completely stubborn idiot then there's no reason why a deal can't be discussed amicably between him and Levy.

Andros is clearly on the way out. He's removed all his affiliation to Spurs from his Twitter profile, which however daft sounding, is relevant in this day and age. A player plus cash deal or something similar to what we did with Swansea for Davies/Vorm & Sig wouldn't surprise me.

As far as Kane goes, not even worth a comment it's that ludicrous to even consider that we would sell him.

My number 1 target for this window is Batshuayi. I will be obsessing over his signing from now until end of Jan.

Breel Embolo?

Breel Embolo?

Problem is likely to be transfer fees - despite (think it was The Sun) saying £10m last Summer, it was clear that Basle thought Embolo was a potential big star so they had no intension of selling until they got a price he might achieve as a more mature player (lets say 23 years old) eg. £30m....and tbf he's developing nicely this season.

So its questionable whether Basle will sell now and whether we want to pay that kind of price for a player who will not be an automatic starter.

No harm in asking, but do we want to pay that kind of price for an 18 year old with 46 appearances (30 starts, 16 off the bench) with 16 goals in the Swiss League which isn't that great ?

Like the look of him, but doubt we'll get him
