If I wasn't on my iPhone I'd be agreeing with this. I share your concerns about AVB and I'm surprised so many people are so confident that he'll do well. Ignoring all the excuses, however valid they may be, he performed poorly with a side that were expected to be mounting a title challenge and this is his most recent managerial 'achievement'.

Obviously I hope that if he does get the job, he does well but we all know that if we lose a few games the press are going to be all over him and the pressure will mount quickly. He didn't seem to deal with it so well at Chelsea...

Therein lies the problem. Those who 'expected to be mounting a title challenge' were obviously not listening to the man when he told them of his plans to revamp the club. Even TSO would find it impossible to maintain a title challenge whilst restructuring the squad.

Whilst I agree that a note of caution is required, as it would with ANY managerial appointment (apart from Jose that is), using the Cheatski experience as the defining argument is flawed, that much is obvious based on the evidence.

When you really think about it, to be sacked when you are occupying 4th, in the FA Cup and CL QF's and all whilst in the process of overhauling an ageing squad can hardly be viewed as a failure. TSO has always stated that he did his best work in his second season, I suspect that, had RA backed him and given him that 2nd season, AVB and Cheatski would be a serious force.

AVB is 1.24 (2/7) on Betfair and the nearest other candidate is Blanc 9.8 (9/1).

£340,000 matched.

I'm kinda hoping Blanc is less likely now. I'm not sure he's done a great deal of good with France at the Euro's so far and it seems like Roy has been the better manager of the two.

AVB for me all day long. Seems like a lot of smoke too, which is the same thing i was saying in the days before Harry left.

JJ - have we at least got to the point where we're agreeing a deal with a new manager with a view to having it all announced within the next few days?

edit: Which fucking numptie disagreed with this post?? How can anyone say that Blanc has done a better job at the Euro's than Roy or that there isn't a lot of smoke on AVB...

The thing with coaches like AVB and Blanc is that they are about development. A lot of the work they do comes from hard work on the training ground. I'm really not sure international football is suited to that kind of coach and I don't think I'd use it as a measuring stick. Roy has done well but installing anti-football with a group full of anti-footballers probably wasn't so tough.

JJ still hasn't said ya or nay on AVB and at this stage, you'd think it would hardly be a deal-breaker.

A left-fielder coming up tomorrow?

He hasn't said yea or nay to Pep either.

Just saying ...................

He definitely needs help with his droning. Send him to a speech therapist or something. "Adjust your inflection a little, Andre. Allow the pitch to go higher at the end of a sentence now and then."

In essence, speak Australian.

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING they say ends with a higher inflection at the end. My first 6 months over here I thought everyone was asking me a question!

Wouldn't that confuse the bejesus out of the 'meeja'. It'd be like the bridge keeper in The Holy Grail;

'What is the air speed velocity of an unladen Swallow?'

'African or European?'

'I don't know that .................. AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHH!'

I offer the humblest of apologies, kind sir. I know better and still have offended a music legend.

He tried to sell me an SUV the other day.

Didn't buy it in the end, every time I asked him about performance he kept saying 'Don't push me 'cos I'm close to the eeeeedge!'

Surreal.
